Title: Press conference with US Navy Quartermasters (retired) Maurice Enis and Jaime Plym
Event: The Medical and Ecological Consequences of the Fukushima Nuclear Accident
Date: March 11, 2013 at 1:00p ET

US Navy Quartermasters (retired) Maurice Enis and Jaime Plym who both suffered radiation exposure and subsequent health damage while serving on the USS Ronald Reagan during a Fukushima aid and rescue mission.

At ~9:00 in

US Navy Quartermaster (retired) Maurice Enis, USS Ronald Reagan: I go in and they had to remove three layers of skin off my hands and arms. It wasn’t like back to back. They would scrub off one layer then I would have to wash it off, this orange grit stuff that you use to get off paint and oil. Then they would do it over and over again and check. And we’d start the process all over, so in my head I was just praying that the machine would stop beeping so I can get it over with.

Nobody told me at the time what was going on, everybody just told me just to stand and be quiet, not touch anybody or anything. It was almost as if I had the plague.

Finally the machine stopped beeping and they let me go.

It's horrible. I hope he will hold his own healthwise. They couldn't scrub his lungs. They should have given them hazmat suits with the most protection against nuclear radiation. The US government, including the armed services, must become educated about the dangers of nuclear radiation. This education should be a requirement of the office. The world is too dangerous to allow for such naive neglect.

The US government, especially the armed services, anne, are very well educated about the dangers of nuclear radiation. They have been regularly training for NBC (Nuclear, Biological and Chemical) situations for decades. The military wrote the book on this stuff.

There is no 'naive neglect'. Top command in Washington knew exactly what was going on in real time, and the decision was made to support the nuclear industry, and let the sailors die. The lives of thousands of military people and their families, couldn't be allowed to eat into the profits of the nuclear complex. Simple as that.

Make no mistake, our government decision makers are well-educated, highly trained people. These decisions to let the human race go extinct is not stupidity or naivety, but pure greed. They are intentionally running us into the ground, and are intent on being the last ones standing.

The ultimate expression of suicidal narcissistic psychopathic behavior.

the concern wasn't to protect him, they wanted to keep him from
      contaminating the ship

Remember this is a nuclear aircraft carrier with state of the art nuclear instrumentation aboard with personnel trained on how to use it, plus satellite mapping of all radioactive contamination to the CIC center…
Short version is that the US Navy knew!

Now the Multi-Billion Dollar carrier itself is contaminated!

Also what about all the other vessels in the carriers task force?

    This is a big deal!
+ The US Navy towed a large barge with fresh water to Fukushima right after 3/11/11 where is it, I bet it is at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean…

You are so correct on that line of inquiry, Capt. Keep tugging those threads.

Hiya CaptD. Per US NAVY authorized media promotional video of the mission. A fleet of 20 ships, 140 aircraft and 12,500 personnel were sent to assist in operation TOMODACHI. All ships and most all aircraft were contaminated. Many personnel were also exposed as we are finding out. The airborn squadron aircraft used in the relief missions had to stay behind after the carrier was smart enough to leave for home. The aircraft of that mission were just recently released and flew home to their home base after almost 2 years of decomtamination. The aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan has been docked since its return from Japan and is doubtful to return to service anytime soon if at all.

According to the kid, officers and pilots received iodine tabs but not the enlisted personnel. Would take an act of Congress to grant anyone aboard ships relief (think posttraumatic stress disorder or agent orange or depleted uranium exposure). What about ground personal at the bases? How are they doing? Then the kid, who was heavily exposed, said the Navy lost his medical records covering the time of the event. How convenient. If you waive your rights to sue the government when you enlist then what is the government (Navy) afraid of and trying to hide?

"According to the kid, officers and pilots received iodine tabs but not the enlisted personnel."

If that's true, razzz, there are going to be a lot of accidents against officers at sea. They have to put their lives in the hands of the enlisted sailors every day. Especially the pilots.

I pray that's not true. What a morale nightmare if it is.

That is what the kid said. Dr. Caldicott snuck two ex-sailors, that are part of the sailors lawsuit against TEPCO et. al., in during the lunch break to tell their stories in front of the press and be questioned. That is what the kid said about the iodine tabs, his medical records, etc.

Both sailors were out of the Navy now and on their own for medical costs for followups and treatments.

Apparently, the night before they were both interviewed on tv about the events leading up to the lawsuit and the kid said that night he started receiving phone calls from past shipmates that complained they had strange systems too since traveling through the fallout.

Idiot medical staff on the USS Ronald Reagan.

Completely improper and asinine decontamination treatment for human skin.

Mild soap is recommended, not gritty soap. The risk of infection is the main reason not to scrub skin too harshly. They should train them a lot better. Some of the government manual actually havd the proper guidelines:

"Stop whole body external decontamination efforts after 2 decontamination cycles and handle patient with standard precautions if the second whole body radiation survey shows:
External contamination in excess of 2 times background radiation level
Additional whole body external decontamination efforts do not further reduce contamination levels by more than 10%.

Consider that attempts to remove all contamination from skin may not be feasible or desirable.

Some radioactivity may be trapped in outermost layer of skin (stratum corneum) and will remain until normal sloughing occurs (12-15 days).

Attempts at vigorous decontamination may result in loss of normal intact skin barrier and an increased risk of internal contamination."

I also say "Bullshit" to the scrubbing descriptions "removed three layers of skin".

The epidermis is the outer skin layer which consists of three parts. If you remove those three outer layers you get to the dermis layer which consists of:

    •Blood vessels
    •Lymph vessels
    •Hair follicles
    •Sweat glands
    •Collagen bundles
    •Fibroblasts
    •Nerves

In other words…you would have open flesh if you removed three layers of skin.

SP: To be fair…I am sure the sailor means he went through three tough scrubbing episodes, not three layers of skin.
