Well, IP.. this is a terrifying event.. and I too thought, how is GE/nbc allowing this.. then it occurred to me that with no way to keep this quiet any longer, that it is spin and damage control..

We are in this mess and a whole lot of others because of the deregulation of media control. I remember a time, news people would be climbing over each other for a scoop like this (a year ago).. they were motivated by ratings.
Now, it is keep it quiet for our lord and master.. how do we not tell the truth is more important than the truth, more often than not, these days..
So, if we are to survive and find our way, we must insist on re-regulation of media ownership, and we must re-energize/invigorate our pbs too. Information is power and we are currently dang near powerless.. and as the control of the internet continues, we very well could be powerless.
Imagine we all of a sudden had radiation forecasts on our nightly news, imagine we all had access to information that might help us keep our families safe.. imagine there were no nukes.

Hi Obewan,
Did you try to send your comments to Richard Engel through NBC? Often you'll find a link or can contact him through Corporate Communications, the news room he works with, etc. If you work through the internal channels, you could probably get your message to him directly. Or someone he works with in the news room can get the message to him. Worth a try, IMHO.
Agree it's good to get someone like this to look at the data and become "educated. Sounds like he "gets it" or is beginning to ….

Most of the money sites are not believable – Forbes.com, Bloomberg, and such.
Every so often they will come out with a good article though.
This level of evil is possible through lack of knowledge. (Some might call it stupidity).
For instance, Obama listens to his NRC advisors, and Arnie has shown us how believable they are. His (Obama's) degree is in constitutional law, not nuclear physics, and I doubt he has time to read enenews.
I think this is a bit like Zen enlightenment – it takes a while to "get it". I'm having a hard time explaining to the conspiracy types even: they think it was all deliberate. Great theory, but it doesn't pan out: they could have turned off the cooling systems anytime they wanted in the last 50 years or so. HAARP would be completely unnecessary – the earth itself is a much better EQ-producer.
Also, they're nuking themselves. Nobody wants to live in a rock cave for the rest of their lives, unless you're a Tibetan yogi, or perpetual coal miner. (In the former case, the caves are high up, and open to the air).
LHow smart is that for an elite depopulation crew? So, I go against the conscious and deliberate depopulation theory and lean more towards the unwitting (or witless) stupidity theory – still operative and observable with Obama's actions in funding new plants.
He just doesn't get it.

Blackbeer…..In your above post, you mentioned losing our rights. Don't know if you know this guy, Johnathon Turley, but he is a Constitutional Scholar and well respected. He used to be a guest on MSNBC regularly, but not for the past year or so that I know of. He is THE sharpest tack about the Constitution that I know of. Here is a piece he wrote a couple days ago…..and I had such great hope for this Prez just a few short years ago.

here's the other problem with "cleaning up" the radiation, that he eludes to in the video – give him credit – but doesn't hit head on.
This stuff doesn't go away – for dozens, hundreds or millions of years. The plutonium dust that you breathe in that causes your cancer and kills you – doesn't go away. It's still in your dead body for a eons – well for 50 years or so until your body is gone – then it's somewhere else – for eons.
Conceivably the same speck of plutonium could kill 10,000 different people if it keeps getting passed from generation to generation. You have to think really long-term about this stuff.
That's why "cleaning it up" is so horrible – these folks are spraying it with a pressure washer!!! Every day you spread this stuff out is a few more lives that will be lost.
That just sends it somewhere else. You've got to contain it. You've got to bury it. Why don't they take all those bags of dirt they show in the video that they want to bury in the people's back yards and send them back to Fukushima Daichi and bury the place under 2,000 meters of debris – call it the "forbidden mountain" or something. Just get the stuff into one place.
The fact that they're doing this is proof-positive that they are still in denial and PR mode – not in thinking mode yet.
The US has exactly the same problem – they haven't even acknowledged the existence of the radiation yet.

Your mountain idea doesn't work. Rain leaches into the mountain and takes the particles into the ground water and then into the ocean. The big difference between Chernobyl and Fukushima is the ocean got, and continues to get, the bulk of the radiation. The oceans food chain is very multi-tiered and mobile. The tuna that was caught near Chile ate fish that ate fish, that ate fish, that ate krill, that plankton all of which got varying doses of radiation that are now concentrated in the tuna fish sandwich in some kids lunchbox.

They mention iodine because it's very active (high energy decay) and caesium/cesium which is less active, longer lasting, and with a half life of ~30 yrs is a good match for the human life span / reproductive cycle (and goes indiscriminately for the soft tissues).

Trouble with Pu, it that it kills as a heavy metal, the radiation only shoots off on very rare intervals. Same with most of the Uranium that was aerosolized.
So the half life doesnt really matter for all intents and purposes. The reality is that it lasts forever and kills forever. There, doesn't that make it sound better….I guess I couldn't work in government.

I think we have to appreciate what Richard Engel is doing here or did.Granted he is NOT a nuclear Scientist so he did not go into all isotopes that were and are BEING emitted over at Fuku.So he only mentioned cesium that shot up to the sky etc.
May I suggest if anyone here has thorough knowledge of this disaster find his email say from NBC website and give him a brief of how things went down and where things stand and a possible extrapolation of issues.Or if anyone has such a report ready to probably send it his way…might help since he's on the story.

ManyMoons, having been through a major EQ myself (Loma Prieta, sitting right on top of the San Andreas fault in an old building), I can speak to "stocked shelves" and such. You can be in a house on one lot and have no damage at all, and the house next door will have its foundation wrecked. Some stores will have everything knocked over, others will be relatively untouched. There is seemingly no rhyme or reason to the level of damage, at times. Of course structural integrity and design play into how buildings, etc., behave under EQ stress.

Note that Engel is famous for his courageous on-the-scene reporting from hot spots in the Middle East. He probably didn't realize one of the reasons that a lot of those spots are "hot" is the USA's use of depleted uranium in weapons. Fukushima was just another way of getting what he was probably already soaked in. He probably thought all he'd have to do in northeastern Japan is not eat the food or drink the water and perhaps wear a mask and protective clothing, and at least no one would be shooting at him.

I've been trying to find update on Iwakami Yasumi, the IWJ journalist who went on the 2/20/12 press tour of FukuDai. Mochiuri reported him ill a few days after the tour, and the story was carried here on ene. He was seem prominently in the 3 & 5 hour tour videos.
Nucklechen reported he was surprised by the cavalier attitudes of the journalists with open shirts and taking the small cloth masks off regularly. I felt the same way when I watched the video. So I was saddened, although not surprised, when I heard he was ill. I'd like to hear some follow up. I've been searching and left messages. But so far I have no more information. I'll report if/when I do.
These journalists, along with everyone else, need to be informed better of the dangers.
