Hard to say where the edges of that sucker are now … no wonder they aren't saying much about it. Looks to have grown by about 50%

That whole left side is opening up

Now that's a sinkhole. Amazing how much it has grown in a month. Wow
Report Comment
I'm still wondering how much of the water we see (especially on right-of-way driving path) is from rains. The entire surface of the sinkhole area has looked water-logged since the hurricane. (Makes sense that a bayou would be slow to 'dry out' … I wonder what's sinkhole and what's 'swamp'?
Report Comment
Most of the trees are dead. The trees to the left of the first still image are all dead and they aren't dircetly around the sink hole….imagine what is seeping underground in all directions….very toxic stuff.
Report Comment
It's all a swamp, for miles around. Just a small part of swamp is sinking into an underground cavity, and the swamp nearby is bubbling.
This entire event has me quite bemused. Usually governments downplay public risks of any kind, especially when their own planning decisions may have led to the problem. But in this case they seem to be playing it up, far more than seems warranted. What's the worst that could happen? Even if the butane/gas storage caverns totally breach to the surface AND ignite, it's still only going to flatten a square mile or so of… swamp.
There's all the ho-ha about radiation, but it seems like the levels reported could be just from natural radioactive decay in rocks, released in a burst due to gas reservoir breach. Compared to the massive cover-up of raised radiation levels in the US west coast due to Fukushima, it seems strange.
I can't help wondering why the authorities in this case are acting so out of character. Maybe just 'jealous of Fukushima' – wanting their area to be a famous disaster zone too?
A more sinister version might be that the government wants a test case for mass forced evacuations under emergency rule. To see how much resistance they encounter, and perhaps to test fire some of those huge purchases of ammunition if there is resistance.

I haven't heard anything about this event on the national news. I have relatives who live in Baton Rouge who haven't heard about it at all..???
I think a lot more should be made of this disaster because it's another one of those instances where scientific ideas and industry have pull together to make money and screw over the enviroment…and it seems like a situation …out of control. Swamp land is important to the enviroment, what about the ground water and the potential for polluting vast areas.

I agree many moons, I hear it here and from those who dig for the truth.
I have not heard our government officials or news breaking news talk about this.
Maybe I'm watching the wrong news?
Since they haven't stopped this yet, how many months would it take to travel 35 miles (probably less now, to Nuclear Plant)?
Wonder if any corporations are thinking about tapping into this? lol..
Report Comment
I thought about the nuclear plant not far away and what effect this disturbing event might have on the plant….also what crossed my mind was…I wonder if the salt domes were ever used as long term storage for high level nuclear waste from a near by reactor?
Report Comment
It would not surprise me, many moons

Here is a video launched by successful national video/blogger Dutchsinse with reference to the town meeting attended by hundreds in Bayou Corne…to which no state or local officials and no professionals whatsoever showed up. At that meeting speaker after citizen speaker begged for help and suggested a petition to the Federal government for help…but were not in the know how to make it "fly." Now normally, I'd say especially in these times, federal intervention is a bad thing. But this is different. IF, in fact, the Feds were required to actually remediate… Although I'm not sure, at this point, that there is anything anyone can do except evacuate and reimburse thousands of people…or depending on the explosive potential…millions(?). There are many ramifications, like disarming the people as was done in Katrina. In any case this is the video to circulate, depending on what you think is best. It contains a petition on file with whitehouse.gov. that requires 25,000 signatures to make it across the President's desk. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=yM5QqgEC7VM&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DyM5QqgEC7VM. I am forwarding it because more than just Assumption Parish, more than Louisianna, more than Mississippi, more than Alabama…more than Georgia, all the way to Florida…the entire South East can now realistically be said to be involved, and this is the right forum for federal intervention in the balance of state's rights.

How wretched that people who were part of or understand how this unfolded did not attend. Hard to know how to feel about this information.

irhologram: Also put the Bayou Corne people in touch with Louisiana Environmental Action Network if they've not already in contact. LEAN has sinkhole info on their website so I'd assumed the action group is involved with the community – maybe I was wrong. LEAN here: http://leanweb.org/ Good Luck with this!!! Thanks for helping the community reach out!

I find it fascinating that people still confuse the remnants of a representative government with-what is now a globalized network of organized criminals. Seems most can't come to terms with this harsh reality, or, they're simply incapable of the necessary sacrifices to change it. Add to this comedy, our loving military-police-state issues hundreds-of-millions of rounds to their 'party members', while the deluded continue to think the voting booth will somehow be their answer. Clickity-clack-clickity-clack…hear those trains a com'n…com'n round the bend…

Nice point aftershock, why even think a petition will have an effect? But I suppose they have to try, then we get another tick point reminding us what side they really are on.

don't need any more evidence richard. They're beating old people to death and raping what's left of our world. It's become a pathological love-fest, beyond anything seen in prior human history. Even the emperors of ancient Rome had more respect for the slaves, than the trash who claim to 'represent' us today. But none should think this was an accident. The hidden ones purposely green-lighted the avarice of this age. They wanted it to fall apart, as they planned to be the ones to step-in (through fronts of course) and deliver the world from the chaos of their making. All of this has been about consolidation of the world's resources. These people are effing brilliant! They're about to succeed in their 'great work'. Unfortunately for those who unwittingly served to make this 'dream' (of globalized 'pseudo-socialism') a reality, they are to become the sacrificial lambs for the final ritual of 'cleansing'…

The ONLY thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do NOTHING. Edmond Burke mDo you REALLY think past times were not as BUTHEROUS? You are living a cushy lie of irresponsibility. MANY are aware. This may not go down as easily as you think. While I am in no position to resist, others ARE. Stop being whips.

whatever you're working with irhologram, you need to take a little-more care in the quality of your posts. Aside from that, I do appreciate your courageous intent. Unfortunately for most (who are mentally and spiritually unprepared), it is going down in flames. That's not to say you shouldn't put up a fight. You're welcome too! Just keep in mind, bravado precedes defeat. Should you plan on doing something more than going through the motions, then you'll need to face the cold-hard reality of what's coming at you. Human history is littered with the graves of those who were incapable of doing so…

I did not mean this as spam. I apologize for offending you.
Report Comment
Not really offending, it's just that the comments archive gets flooded with your comment, repeat over and over again. Conversations are hard enough to follow, having repeats in the way, well, it just looks like spam.

I have not seen my comments posted twice, and I don't see my comments posted more than others. Perhaps you just don't like them? As to posting the link to the petition, I realized it WASN'T in the video and so I corrected my mistake by posting it separately. I think personal attacks are inappropriate here?
Report Comment
It was not a personal attack. What I saw was the same blog entry repeated across several threads. Call it whatever you like, I know what I saw and its probably still visible in the comment archive.
You did two variations, but repeated those variations. Why isn't placing the one comment in the non-nuke thread enough for you? Do you really think placing the same post in several threads is going to get you any mileage?
Report Comment
Yes. I did enter this request from the town meeting of citizens of Bayou Corne across three threads. I would do it again. It was their wish.

I think we all have plenty to worry about, other than reposts..
I am not sure we should have so many competing petitions though.. I do think that the one I signed, if successful, will result in what your petition is seeking to have happen.
I posted the petition to declare the area a national disaster, after I signed it, yesterday, to http://enenews.com/forum-petitions-ballot-initiatives-other-signature-drives-video
I was the 22 person to sign
hopefully with this petition being spread far and wide and reposted everywhere, there will be more.
Perhaps we should be sure to sign both.

irhologram: You're in contact with citizens of Bayou Corne? Can you tell us more? Do they express needs they hope we can address, (such as getting the word or their situation more widely spread?) What is their mood re any citizen action they may be taking, or want to take? There's a Louisiana environment group of some strength I think – are the BC people working with them?

irhologram: Thanks – I've not viewed town meeting vids recently and will check this out, including re-watching if it's what I've seen before. Will also check into petition. I always think of the people trying to live at the heart of the sinkhole disaster while the rest of the US obliviously goes about whatever it's doing!
Report Comment
The petition I referred to was launched early this morning with whitehouse.gov. It currently has 302 signatures.
Report Comment
irhologram, Good to see more signing!
I signed both, I have long suspected that the way the whitehouse.gov site works, is to have various petitions with minor differences in language available.. this divides our intentions.
It allows the "Government" to represent there were not enough interested or concerned parties to even get 25k signatures.. so they do nothing and cover their nothing as our fault, so if you are interested in an issue do a search and be sure to sign all reasonable petitions.
Some are ridiculous and occur to be from shills, especially nuclear power issues, so do read them.

This is a conception error of granting permission in the first place to operations which don’t take
possible harm as a direct consequence of authorized scientific geo-amendment being affected by nature’s powerful activities. He who doesn’t wear a plastic hard hat on site is fired, yet he who
causes a geo-clysmic disturbance under your feet relying on the soil for protection, is authorized as
it poses no immediate danger. Existence rely on mandates. The scientist knows that very well.
My tea and coffee is bitter!

I challenge anyone to make sense of this post. I can't help but suspect 'they're' testing auto-posting algorithms. It's on the grapevine that they'd be doing so. They definitely need to tweak the verbosity settings…

pray tell Anthony. What is he saying? There's always a chance that my heuristics processing is not up to the challenge…
Report Comment
He's saying:
The mistake was in giving permission to run operations to someone who doesn't consider the ramifications of their actions or perhaps know sufficiently the interactions of their products with forces of nature.
Yet even though they cause damage to the very land we need to protect us from their products these same people walk freely around the crisis, taking no blame or accountability for the crisis, while the guy on the line without a hardhat gets fired.
Life needs rules. Scientists know that well.
Hes saying it like he sees it – like the rest of us!!!
Now lets see if mine is understandable!!!
