  Iodine should have deteriorated by now, especially when diluted by reservoirs. We must be getting fresh releases (within the last week or so).

  I’m sure someone DID test for cesium, it’s just that they crapped their pants and decided not to release the numbers.

  I think some of the scientists who are just completing the regular duties that the EPA has been doing for decades to monitor radiation are now doing so under adverse pressure… The EPA and many in DC have been having their arms twisted for years now, no matter how critical their work or how much it is pursuant to mandatory law!… Welcome to the Beltway! Be grateful for ANY integrity you can find –it comes at a price. But, any decent, self-respecting scientist knows that this testing is worth that price, if anything is. I’m grateful that someone there is standing up to the pressure and just doing the job.

  One of the properties of Iodine is its affinity with the cells of the human body. Each living cell of the human body requires Iodine for life, and therefore when it is available, the body absorbs it like a sponge. You can rub iodine on your skin and it will show up quickly in the blood stream, with the thyroid taking the lions share of it. Your body does not discriminate between radioactive iodine and dietary food grade iodine.

  Because it is absorbed so readily, your family must avoid all contact with I-131.

  I-131 loves to stick to concrete, so beware of walking barefoot on concrete that has been exposed to radioactive rainfall. Wear footwear that you will use only for outdoor use. Keep your outdoor shoes in a protected area, outside the house if possible. Do not walk indoors with shoes worn outside. You will track the I-131 indoors.

  Do not let your cat or dog walk around outside on pavement, concrete, ground or grass exposed to radioactive rainfall, their paws will absorb it and cats love to lick their paws. Consider putting protective paw covers on your pet when they walk outdoors, if they will tolerate it.

  Careful about letting your dog, poke his nose into wet grass. The I-131 will absorb right through his nose.

  Just this evening, I watched two college age gals walk bare foot across pavement that had been soaked for days with radioactive rain. It was surreal, to watch people exposing themselves directly to fallout on the ground. The thought of their feet absorbing the I-131 was horrific. I wanted to shout a warning, but they were too far away to have heard. They got in their car and drove away.
