Title: Irvine City Council opposes San Onofre nuclear plant
Source: 89.3 KPCC
Author: Ed Joyce
Date: Apr. 25, 2012
The Irvine City Council voted Tuesday night to send a letter to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission opposing the San Onofre nuclear plant. [...] More than 200 people packed the council chambers for a public hearing [...]
The letter opposes the relicensing of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station and highlights other concerns over the plant’s operation. [...]
Arnie Gundersen came from Vermont to testify. He’s a former nuclear engineer who says plant operator, Southern California Edison, made design changes which caused the current problems. “It’s the beginning of a movement nationwide to tell the NRC that business as usual just isn’t good enough anymore,” Gundersen said. [...]
Councilman Larry Agran says he’s worried about public safety should something disastrous happen at the nuclear plant. “So if we don’t speak up about that and take those responsibilities seriously, we might as well give up on local government,” he said.

I wish Arnie could just say it like it is without having to 'play the game' of it could/should be safer crap. Seriously!
I wish, just once he would say something like, "…these Nuclear Death Machines should never have been built in the first place and you've all been lied to and now it's obvious you been screwed. They should all be Turned Off and decommissioned a soon as possible, in order to slow down the toxic contamination that is progressing faster than humans can think."
Mr. Gundersen, you have my permission to use these words or ones like them at any time. Maybe you'll sleep better. I know I would.

From following Arnie ever since this started he is pretty much saying that. If he says directly what you're suggesting he'll get sued again. F@ck this industry. I hope this whole disgusting mess implodes on itself and takes the scum that think nuclear is good with it.

The Bush administration wrongly attributed 9/11 to Iraq, and wrongly connected Saddam Hussein to al-Qaeda. But al-Qaeda was definitely responsible for 9/11. And I strongly suspect that Ms. Rice and Mr. Cheney knew al-Qaeda was going to attack and they did nothing to stop it because everyone was so mad that Bush had illegally stolen the election and was never legally elected (HAIL TO THE THIEF).
I also think al-Qaeda was involved in the Oklahoma City bombing, but the Clinton administration didn't want to acknowledge that or to go to war at that time.
There is lots of evidence within the intelligence community for the assertions I am making.

Excuse me, but Jim Stone is an industry shill. It was the nuclear industry that is responsible for the nuclear accident. Please don't associate me with someone who like MOX fuel, etc.

Maybe they could use that unmanned space craft to transport waste of planer and shoot it into the sun. Seeing that the only safe place for nuclear waste is off this planet.

I see I misread anne instead of arnie. Anyway, IMHO, he shouldn't repeat anything said by an industry shill such as Jim Stone. If he wants to close down the nuclear industry he isn't going to get mixed up in someone's political agenda which is a distraction from the dangerous nature of nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is so expensive that the industry has taken to buying inferior metal from Asia that can't do the job. What was an impossibly dangerous energy alternative has become an ELE death machine. Cutting corners, falsifying safety documents and tests, and turning a blind eye means death to billions of people. How dare the moguls of the nuclear industry deal the death blow to human civilization and life?
NO NUKES, NOT EVER, NO WAY!

Gundersen is amazing. Travels to Japan. Then to the West Coast (to tell politicians and citizen whats going on, in detailed form). And he checks pollen and filters. Who else is doing all this?

Very good point, big picture! The proof is often in what they 'do'!

God bless you, Arnie Gunderson.
What an an excellent interview, Auntie Nuke (Libby)! I highly recommend listening to it, as Libby's program also recaps all the latest nuclear news, for those who haven't had the time to follow the latest news.
I love this quote from Arnie:
"I pray for the goodness of other people, and hope that together we can all make a change."
I know those of us who frequent enenews do too, Arne. And we won't give up until that change, realizing a world without nuclear power plants, is made.
Another great quote from Arnie: (I paraphrase): "It's like Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the relationship between the NRC and Southern California Edison." LOL!!!
Also, Libby, thanks so much for mentioning the upcoming GE shareholders meeting and the GE Stockholders Association (GESA) and their proposal to have GE divest from ALL nuclear businesses. Good luck, GESA!
Also, the poems from the Fukushima children were sooo touching. My heart goes out to all these beautiful children.
Finally, Libby's final admonition is perfect: "This (Fukushima) has been your Nuclear Wake Up Call. Now DON'T go back to sleep!"
Gotta love it!
Thanks again, Auntie Nuke!
