Title: Tainted water may be leaking near No.2 reactor
Source: NHK WORLD
Date: Sept. 11, 2013

A nuclear expert says radioactive groundwater at the crippled plant in Fukushima is likely still flowing into the sea.

Attempts by [Tepco] to stop the water appear to have had little effect. […]

Head researcher at the Japan Atomic Energy Agency, Seiji Takeda, says levels of radioactive tritium in water samples from the wells and the nearby sea suggests the groundwater is to blame.

[…] He says the water is most likely flowing fairly quickly into the sea through pebbles inside the tunnel.

The operator has been solidifying the embankment to plug the leak. But it admitted on Wednesday that the measure is not working so far.

  • Flapdoodle Flapdoodle

"pebbles inside the tunnel". What the hell does that mean? They are trying to stop the water with pebbles?

    • jec jec

Tunnel FLOORS are gravel, not concrete..CHEAP building solution or to allow drainage I guess. Go figure, gravel in the tunnels..a 'design' feature.

Oh, where have you been, my darling young one?

I've stumbled on the sides of three exploded Nuclear reactors

I've walked an crawled through their broken crooked pipe ways

I've stepped in the middle of sizzling Plutonium puddles

I've been out in front of a dozen radioactive dead oceans

I've seen ten thousand body's mounded in graveyards

I saw dying deformed baby's with doctors all around’em

I saw a Freeway of weeds with nobody on it

I saw wet black mould with Cesium that kept drippin’

I saw a room full of men with their Muller tubes a glowin'

I saw many fuel racks all covered with explosion debris

I saw ten thousand NRC talkers whose tongues were all broken

I saw contaminated food in hands and mouth of young children

The fact they are not asking for help from every expert in the world is driving me batty..Never in my life, would I have thought that a accident like this would not warrant a "rush" to find a solution.. From anyone, anywhere..
And the fact it is not being insisted on is insane.
Do we just stand by as the world we inherited is destroyed by a POWER company? We care that chemical weapons are used in syria.. And what is radiation doing to the world? The oceans..?
Good grief.. Its past time to do stand up to this too.

    • snukey

I know its baffling. I wish someone would question Obama on live TV, but he would just say everything's fine. The only thing they do is report on what the liers say. No solutions talked about, nothing. Do they not care? Is it money? Why?

      • We Not They Finally

Actually, it's a big huge giant disgrace. History (if there is much left of history to record at all) might say that a great power just rolled over into a bunch of lies and did nothing to protect its own. It's a disgraceful way to go — with no courage, no honesty, no compassion.

        • We Not They Finally

And lies will beget more lies will beget more lies. Now the cancer industry is starting to say that "genomic testing is the future of cancer treatment." So suddenly masses of people will show up with defective genes that were never defective before, and it will be "just another carcinogen." And we'll have a new "war on cancer" and root for "survivors." And there will be fund raising and marches and still no one will tell the truth about anything??

Not looking forward to this. Hardly.

    • The killers have us by the throat.
Truth is we kill or be killed.
Yet there is no method of self defense.
Personally….i'm always for fighting for my life.
It does look like our hands are tied.
Time to find a real weapon. This is no time for compassion.
      I'm looking for a stick!

  • TheBigPicture TheBigPicture

U.S. and France and others have been involved. Problem is, nothing can be done. And this is what a meltdown does when a plant is built on the shoreline, as most are.

  • rockyourworld

i think fukushima's earthquake was man made to cover up something more sinister. our own leaky nukes!!!!!!!

    • We Not They Finally

I sort of get what you're saying, but I think more likely it was the vast unintended consequences from monstrous hubris that neither considered nor cared that millions could die.

Aquifers found beneath Kenya. 'Radar Technologies International, a natural resources exploration firm, first caught a glimpse of the aquifers using advanced satellite technology. Drilling confirmed that water’s presence. Scientists describe the aquifers, which are naturally replenished, as looking like a short stack of “interconnected pancakes.”'

But coriums beneath Fukushima cannot be found?

  • rockyourworld

they can find gas 7000 feet down by thumping the ground they actually had the nerve to measure natural gas here on private property without even asking permission on thanksgiving day! they cracked the walls of a farmhouse around the corner in the process what a sneaky bunch when they want to be. they know exactly where the coriums are

We need a worldwide consortium made up of experts in the field to start brainstorming solutions to what is happening in Fukushima and what can be done to FIX it. We need them NOW. Each country will also need to commit funds to this effort, since it is and will continue to affect the entire planet. The consequences could be the extinction of all life on earth. It is past time to do this. Japan is calling for help and they can not handle it alone.

  • FXofTruth

TEPCO is a failure of historic proportions. This is just ONE nuclear operator in the World….imagine of the 430 nuclear plants that are operational, how many are run by people like this one is?

Between 20 to 30,000 gallons of water MUST be poured directly on to a melted core EVERY MINUTE otherwise, it goes critical. The water is then drenched in deadly radioactivity. The water gets pumped or spills directly into the Pacific ocean. Since there is NO cooling system through the melted core anymore (almost three years of no cooling system), the water just comes in and get heated to boiling point and goes directly into the ocean.

It's the same as filling a bathtub up to the top and letting it run over the sides. Then, build a sponge wall around the tub because you broke off the handle that shuts the water off.

Now your basement is filling with water but, you start your furnace and have turn on your electrical junction box which is on the basement floor. Finally, you go upstairs and sit down and start watching TV with a beer. The electrical box starts a fire; your furnace blows up and you decide to go to bed and you tell your wife, "I'll call someone to fix this next month and I'll file a insurance claim to cover the damage to the house if it doesn't burn down. Now, go to sleep honey."

Sounds something like this melt down?

    A fair assessment indeed.

  • Maybe humans have really met their match.
Who would have guessed that no one knows what a radioactive isotope is.
The media is treating our over wrought interest as a new form of religion.
We keeping worrying about things that seem to them to be "leaps of faith".
That 101 science requirement for our degrees obviosly didn't make it to small particle physics.
This nuclear power realm of saints proves to be a victorious killer.
    Killing indescriminately.
Honestly don't see how we're gonna make it past the learning curve.
If had to explain this to my own family they would be polite listening but see it as a matter of my faith versus theirs. After which they would offer to pray for me as the only hope.
These nuclear killers are worthy of serious retaliation.
    But we have no weapon.
