Follow-up to last weekend’s report: Report: Concern that a subsidence in the earth under unit 4 could cause its collapse
Journalist Ryuichi Kino questions a Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency spokesman during the May 7 press conference, translated by Fukushima Diary:
[...]
Kino: Some people point out that the ground is having uneven settlement around the reactor 4 building. If you have not conducted high and low instrumentation, you don’t even know that?
NISA: Earthquake may have caused ground subsidence in the area of Fukushima plants, but because the building is on the bed rock, the state of the ground is different from the building area and other areas.
Seismic evaluation of the building was conducted in the most severe standard.Kino: But it is rational to think the basement of the building has been damaged underground too. Do you evaluate the basement floor is completely safe ?
NISA: We reinforced the SFP4 based on the most severe seismic evaluation.
Kino: No, I mean, apart from the reinforcement of the building above the ground, now it can be assumed the basement of the building is damaged, and there may be uneven settlement around the reactor, how can you guarantee the building is not leaning ?
NISA: If the building is leaning, we can tell it by checking the water level of SFP4. Inspector actually entered the building and confirmed the safety visually.

Horse Pucky! Flap Flap Flap–"visual" inspections following true scientific theory and methodology–right? And then, they can fund and repair all the contamination and radiation damage by waving a MAGIC WAND. Hey–sounds about right! (sarcasm)

The horse in the mosque was given anesthetic, but we do not know how this might have affected the scallops! Domo Domo!

perfectly translated from mad hatter to hobby horse.

… so this means we're all safe and out of danger? Reinforced to the "most severe seismic evaluation" … and even checked it visually! Why oh why don't I feel reassured.
Certainly … "The health of of the nuclear power industry has never been better …" Ring a little hollow?
Is not the victory of the nuclearists: 435 reactors worldwide and counting (may be an old number) the most hollow ever?
Cheap power??? Safe power??? Necessary power??? What a line of crap … and we bought it, we the Sheeple … Well, maybe not for too much longer ……….

Greetings fellow Vermonter!
Spent Fuel Pool has an innocent sound to it…can't be that dangerous if it's "spent" right??
And that's just how the lower IQ MSM journalwhores must be interpreting it, so no daily check ins with the story as we here do…
The MOX fuel is THE issue in all this…U.S. Didn't wanna mess with it other than security protection as it was shipped to Japan (profits, profits!)
Now the world has a smoldering pile of Plutonium up its nose thanks to the greedy mafia style tactics of France, U.S. Japan and Russia…
All will be healed when they can take the first step in admitting they are NOT following the will of their people!

had a look did they… thats handy!!
any mention of subsidence, aquifer, corium, steam? not necessarily in that order though? but in the same sentence..
in another sentence …
historical subsidence in area that stopped industry using the aquifer in the 80`s 90`s
another sentence
self adjusting jacks that they can use with computers to keep the fuel pool level
an interesting video…

@arclight—"Aftermath: Population Zero"! Wonderful video. Very reassuring. Nature will replenish itself if we just get out of the way. Amen to that. Reminds me of a quote from Richard Feyman, "Don't mess with Ma Nature. She always wins." It is wonderful to imagine how this planet will restore itself, if, as the film says, we just get out of the way. Thanks for posting.

the bit about the nuclear reactors was a bit hopeful imo, but an intersting posit!!
Report Comment
Agree, Arclight. They did minimize the radioactivity. I could be mistaken, but I don't see how so many animals could escape genetic damage, and that the damage would be so short lived. Also, the disappearance of humans smacked of either "deus ex machina" or "The Rapture." Or is that redundant?

was a bit like golden week at daichi eh?
not sure if the coriums are taking a break…
concerning the contamination in the film though.. makes you think though? likely that large areas would be harsh environments for life.. but some areas might clean up dependant on soil structure, type of contamination etc..

This doesn't sound promising.

Ever heard of a parallegram? In 4th grade maybe?
A quadrilateral composed of Two pairs of parallel sides of equal length that are not parallel to eachother. The top floor can displace laterally without tilting. Hang a plumb bob from the top floor to measure the displacement — a big rock and some rope will suffice

… Not perpendicular to each other…

Fabulous!
O.K.
Let me sum up what NISA is saying, shall I?
"The ride has been rough and we hit a lot of debris on the road. Shards of glass, steel, nails, rocks, and the like. BUT because we're showing a full tank, let me assure you that our tires aren't flat."
… Like that?

Yes I do like that excellent analogy. Tepco and the Diet has in this crisis exhibited the worst case of tunnel vision in dealing with many separate issues. They just can't multitask worth a damn.

Do you think in a Court of Law one might use the term, NEGLIGENT, to get close to describing their actions? I mean, it plays out just like BP in the GOM…
… At this point, the evidence from the GOM is playing out like an, "I told you so" result to all the COREXIT and crude they "LET" flow. That WAS/IS criminal.
In today's wold, I guess it's what Judge you know…

Mark these words…There will be some horrific attack before May is out. They have to evacuate Tokyo or at least create a smoke screen where people will forget. It doesn't look like they wiil evacuate Tokyo because of dangerous radiation or they would now. They know people would panic and call for the elimination to nuclear power. Obama needs to take the heat off his arse too. The world needs to be preoccupied and it's about to happen. If it doesn't happen then it has to happen by September.

OK< I'm calling for anyone who makes less than 100,000 to quit work right now. Let the rich go to work. It will show them who keeps everything going. May 15th everyone quit your job and go to the beach and relax.
