Fire Stirs Old-Waste Concern For Los Alamos Lab, KOAT. June 30, 2011 at 8:36 pm EDT:

No Signs Of Radiological Release Yet, Lab Says

[...] there are still concerns about the areas around the facility which authorities said could be filled with decades-old waste.

Los Alamos National Laboratory Director Charles McMillan said they really don’t know what’s in the ground around the nuclear facility, admitting that old contamination could be a big question mark when it comes to the long-term effects of the fire.

“We do know some things about what are there. (But) is our knowledge perfect? No. Is it zero? No,” McMillan said.

McMillan said there are areas off the lab property where waste was deposited decades ago, when safety standards were far lower. [...]

All these years and no comprehensive map and catalog.

Or is the whole place a mess, with waste dumped in open ditches in the past, and vegetation that’s been growing on it.

Given the levels of dishonesty over any radioactive contamination, it would not be unreasonable to infer a lot into those comments. If those guys are admitting “there might be a problem”, and that “it wasn’t us, it happened years before our time”, you can be pretty certain those fires are stirring up vast amounts of radioactive waste, and they are just hoping that the the only testing done is government testing, which will be rigged to show nothing’s wrong.

That may sound harsh, but on reading how other nuclear releases have been covered up even at the expense of people’s health, I think its a fair and reasonable assessment of what they are admitting thus far.

The fire is absolutely definitely stirring up Nuke waste if they admit “it might be stirring things up that are nothing to do with us”.

As for the standards being more relaxed in the past, the only difference between then and now is that the public has a better understanding of what they are up too, and access to the internet. So now they have to sharpen their act up. But as we have seen at Fukushima, the “safety” is mostly a PR exercise.

      http://periodic.lanl.gov/12.shtml

      [info from Los Alamos itself]

Magnesium is a light, silvery-white, and fairly tough metal. It tarnishes slightly in air, and finely divided magnesium readily ignites upon heating in air and burns with a dazzling white flame.
      ————————-

With a density of only two thirds of the aluminum’s, it has countless applications in cases where weight reducing is important, i.e. in aeroplane and missile construction.

      Chemical dangers

The substance may spontaneously ignite on contact with air or moisture producing irritating or toxic fumes. Reacts violently with strong oxidants. Reacts violently with many substances causing fire and explosion hazard. Reacts with acids and water forming flammable hydrogen gas (see ICSC0001), causing fire and explosion hazard.

      • Uses include flashlight photography, flares, and pyrotechnics, including incendiary bombs. It is one third lighter than aluminum, and in alloys is essential for airplane and missile construction. The metal improves the mechanical, fabrication, and welding characteristics of aluminum when used as an alloying agent. Magnesium is used in producing nodular graphite in cast iron, and is used as an additive to conventional propellants.

It is also used as a reducing agent in the production of pure uranium and other metals from their salts. The hydroxide (milk of magnesia), chloride, sulfate (Epsom salts), and citrate are used in medicine. Dead-burned magnesite is employed for refractory purposes such as brick and liners in furnaces and converters.

After 60 years, you can’t really know what is in the barrels. It probably isn’t all uranium or plutonium but a whole range of transuranics as well as some nasty versions of thorium. As the surface is exposed, tiny amounts will be in transition. Sometimes a given particle will be a gas one minute and a metalic solid the next, then mercury. I don’t know how to compensate drift of half-life when materials are close to so many other particle and energy emitters. Neodymium can warp plasma, can it do the same to fire?

In WWII, they considered using thorium to synthesize the fuel instead of enriching uranium just in case they could not get enough enriched uranium. When they did not need it they buried it in the Iowa State University graveyard as dead professors. It was the mid eighties before they figured out that was a problem and had to decontaminate the graveyard. You could not get close enough to see what was happening and the area was sealed off by hazmat teams. We only found out later when it was in the paper.

Let’s get real, Fall out man, they really had no idea in the 40′s about radiation. In the 60′s I was given a brown “syrup” bottle of radioactive iodine to drink before I went to UC Berkekly the next day for a scan. This was when they were doing r&d developing the raioactive iodine scan. I was diagnosed with pillary cancer caused by X-ray as a preemie and subsequently had a total thyroidectomy.

Also had an injection under a split nail with a growth by a dermatologist in CA in the ’70s. They tried it again in the ’90s, this time the head of dermatology at UW in Washington state had to order it sent sent down from the lab. It had a skull & crossbones on the label. Didn’t work either time, but it is highly radioactive and creates intense pain when injected.

Vets now keep cats isolated after radiation therapy before releasing to owners because they are “radioactive.”

So in past years these researchers really didn’t know much about the real long term effects of radiation – and they still don’t!

That is a tragedy. More than that, a disgrace, given the effects on the thyroid of radioactive iodine were indeed well known long before then.

From the time of the Manhattan project academics certainly knew the dangers of radioactive waste.

For example during the Manhattan project they stored vast amounts of radioactive waste in giant vats, rather than letting it flow into rivers, they knew how serious that would be. Cleaning it up today is a multi-billion dollar problem, with corroding vats of the stuff yet to be sorted out.

However, at Los Alamos, they were much less careful than that. Remote enough I suppose that they just didn’t care. Those on the Manhattan project cannot claim ignorance and those any time after that at Los Alamos cannot either.

Author Carole Gallagher wrote a book on the experiments done on whole towns in Southern Utah in the 40′s and 50′s. Those people really did lose their thyroids, their hair, skin, their lives, you name it. All the while government doctors were sent through those southern Utah towns to take notes and monitor people. When they died, hospitals would mark the cause of death down to anything they possibly could that did not look fallout related. So if a person’s heart stopped due to cancer, they’d write it up as “heart attack”.

The few links below show what I am talking about. The interview with Author Carole Gallagher is riveting. The experiments she describes that were done on individuals, soldiers and even whole towns are just evil. Local doctors in hospitals soon knew what was going on. The silence of whole hospitals was bought with big money, and medics were apparently happy to fall into line. Utah was well looked after financially, and as a result local government and hospitals towed the Federal government line. Too bad about the poor farming towns that were utterly destroyed by these scum. They knew exactly what they were doing.

Attached is a link to an interview with the author on mp3. If I was a person who ever cried, some of the stories would make me cry.

The first link has all the links on one page. One link is to Gallagher’s book – published by an Academic publisher – MIT Press. The book is quite famous. An important work.
The second link is to her blog. The third to an interview with the author that would break the coldest heart.

Long before WW2 academics knew what radiation did to people. Post Manhattan project government academics knew more than what the public can know today. They literally were experimenting (to death) on individuals, soldiers, prisoners, mental patients, and in Southern Utah they were experimenting on whole towns.

We are getting lots of smoke here in the four corners region which means the smoke has gone west and north and east. It is a combination from the Arizona and Los Alamos regions and IT IS RADIOACTIVE. For years many have known about the radiation that is released in these fires. Los Alamos had a fire a few years ago and there were these same concerns that were brushed under the rug.

    Look at this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3hffTNuOAY

So two days ago the smoke was brown and heavy in our region that is just north of Los Alamos. The same today. Thick white smoke and it looked like heavy fog from a short distance. The horizon in every direction was a scary smoky haze as the winds were whipping up all crazy like. It even tried to rain this morning but broke up fast. Had that HAARP created rain feel to it. A day to stay indoors for sure.

Shift to the other local nuklear front:

What is interesting is we have seen the build up of body bags and preparations for some kind of EVENT in that south-eastern bible belt region for years now. It is looking like a nuklear nightmare flood for everything east of the Rocky Mountains and possible martial law as a result.

Fires, smoky radiation, flooding, dams about to burst, high solar activity, a crashing economy to cover up, and UV levels are off the hook. Shake, rattle, and roll. Flash! Throw in the earth changes equation and maybe a false flag Event and you have it, chaos AS PLANNED. (4TH OF JULY?)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CYMkZwdFMQ

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=honET6Ubsb8

Here is a better more detailed story that really hits home:

    http://rri.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/SaintLouisPostDispatch1.pdf

A caller on The Power Hour radio program from Nebraska said the the Army Corp of Engineers deliberately made sure the reservoirs were not allowed to release water in correlation with the record snow fall.  He said the lakes were kept full regardless of the snow fall.  Just a ‘conspiracy’ rumor that needs checking out by the press.

Stay tuned folks and pray for those who are down river and down wind of all this local horror topped off with the radiation from Japan.

Sorry Pu239 I was trying to get hold of someone. Does anyone have the real backstory on this?

Govt to warn of possible rolling blackouts

The Japanese government plans to issue a public warning that rolling blackouts may occur when peak demand for electricity is projected to reach the supply amount.

Tokyo Electric Power Company will be able to provide 53.8 million kilowatts this summer. This is lower than last summer’s peak demand of 60 million kilowatts.

Tohoku Electric Power Company will be able to supply 13.7 million kilowatts this summer which is 1.1 million kilowatts short of last summer’s peak demand.

The government is asking households and businesses to cut electricity use by 15 percent compared with last year in order to avoid a massive blackout.

If it appears that electricity consumption will reach close to 97 percent of maximum supply, the government plans to issue a public warning at around 6 PM on the previous day about possible rolling blackouts.

In that case, the government will also call on households and companies to further reduce power use.

If this CAN be proven real, it’s time to get out the book of Revelations.

That video is a few days old – thus old news – showing the approaching fire towards Los Alamos.

Dramatic – yes. No need to hype.

My jaw is on the floor. That is not good. The first part had some chemical red in the clouds which reminds me a little bit of what I saw after reactor 3 blew at Fukushima. When that black mushroom cloud cleared a little, there was a chemical red steam. This was kind of opposite with the chemical red, then moving to black. I think it was Mothra who said that the chemical red meant plutonium.

I am a little shook up here. I flat out do not want to believe that fire could have actually compromised those barrels.

    • Thanks for the video. It really is sick that there is so much powerful suppression of the truth about radiation poisoning in Japan, especially when it involves the likes of an 8 year old girl having radioactive urine, as you stated. Those that own/control the nuclear industry are truly sick indeed.

      Los Alamos Fire
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G66TsCrW9Eo
According to the US Forest Service’s satellite-based active fire mapping program there were fire detections, at 11:22 MDT within the LANL boundary at TA-16. These detections have a 75% confidence rating, so it is not a sure thing. This may also represent detections from backfires started by fire crews in an effort to rob the wildfire of potential fuel.

TA-16, in the southwestern tip of the Lab, is the location of “S-Site” which began operations in the 50′s and is currently an active site where open burning and detonation of explosives occurs. Within the northern part of this technical area is Building 260 where high explosives are cast and machined. This is also the location of the notorious “260 outfall” the source of heavy contamination of Cañon de Valle by explosives: RDX and TNT.

If RDX and other explosives burn it produces furans and dioxins, a family of organic chemicals that has been associated with adverse health effects in animals and humans. These effects depend on the level and duration of exposure and could include, skin disorders, such as chloracne: liver problems; impairment of the immune system, the endocrine system and reproductive functions; effects on fetal developing nervous system and other developmental events; certain types of cancers

TA-16 is also the location of the Weapons Engineering Tritium Facility, where tritium, a radioactive gas, and tritium containing materials, are handled in glove boxes.

Nearly all (up to 99%) inhaled tritium oxide can be taken into the body from the lungs, and circulating blood then distributes it to all tissues*.

The health hazard of tritium is associated with cell damage caused by the ionizing radiation that results from radioactive decay, with the potential for subsequent cancer induction*.

The Center for Disease Control’s 2007 Interim Report on the Los Alamos Historical Document Retrieval and Assessment states depleted uranium as well as some plutonium is present in the soils and sediment of TA-16

One can also see that the NW corner (TA-3) of the Lab and the Los Alamos townsite itself now appear to be under greater threat. In normal operations TA-3 is the most densely populated Technical Area and has many major facilities. However, it is not forested near those facilities..

I posted yesterday a list of “alternative media” sites that I sent much information to regarding especially the documented evidence of a massive coverup. Here’s the roll call:

Rense: Top aggregator on the internet – posted almost immediately and has kept it as his top story

WRH: Did finally post it this morning. He’s shady but does offer essential information on a daily basis.

Information Clearinghouse: Ignored. This site is not to be trusted

Drudge Report – ignored – a homosexual zionist not to be trusted

Red Ice Creations – posted. Mostly trustworthy. Highly recommend people find out some of the things they say here.

Rumor Mill News : They did post it. Mostly trustworthy but infested with freemason users.

TruNews : I included them yesterday because I knew they would ignore it. Fake Christian site. I used to work there. He has a huge house and a worry-free life and puts out half info and ANY story about “islamic terrorists” is the priority on this scaremongering in the name of God site.

DailyBail – nothing yet, but trustworthy on financial scandals

Lew Rockwell – posted similar story

    Veterans Today – not yet

Newsmax – ignored. Weak propaganda site popular with warmongers and blind partisans.

    Zero Hedge – zilch

    Mother Jones – zilch

Democracy Now – Did INDEED post it!

WorldNet daily – biggest faker site out there. Not a peep about any of the disasters

St. Louis Post-Dispatch – obviously a zealous participant in the coverup. MSM lies and fluff of the worst kind. Liars to the end.

Florida Oil Spill Law – Did allow the comments to be posted. A stunning and horrifying archive of the Gulf of Mexico disaster.

EX-SKF.blogspot – a Japanese site following Fukushima – allowed comment, not sure if its more important than their stories on how Japan did the same.

I’m sure I forgot some, if someone wants to hit some of the left-leaning sites I missed that would be a good thing. Its absolutely disgusting that these rich lying media owners can cover up these THREATS to our very EXISTENCE.

        Hello:
All I did was send the link about the coverup and to the ones on the list that aren’t huge names, I included the link here to show them all the news they are missing.

I also sent out another hugley important message about the investigator of the Sunny Sheu murder was threatened and beaten by an undercover cop. Sunny Sheu was the chinese-american New Yorker who had his house stolen by fraud and the judge did everything he could to make sure he never got his house back, even though the people who were caught forging the paperwork went to jail. Sunny Sheu fought back, and proved that the judge had lied about millions of dollars in assets. He got taken in by the police and told if he did not shut up about it, he would die. He did not shut up and they killed him.
The guy who is publicizing this information took pictures of the silver van and the undercover cop threatening him. A silver van of this description was also spotted near the Sheu murder scene. It was ruled that he just fell on his head and the poilce took his body from the hospital before anyone could identify him. Also a “stranger” unknown to the family had his body cremated without them ever seeing it. Letters have been written to the police commissioner and much media. This story is documented at zerohedge.org

Not one media I sent this story to would touch it.

As for the links to all those sites, I could post them if you wish, however, they shoudl all be the number 1 result on google for the name.

this is also not the first time I have tried to send information to most of these. I have been sending much to TruNews but Iran and the anomlay in Hawaii are much more important.

Yesterday he posted Los Alamos was “under control” and ignoring the New mexico news stations who are coveing almost nothing else. I also sent him to this site several times. He used to cover disasters like this all the time. Now the only time you’re really going to hear him talk about the threat of nukes is how it related to Iran.

Anyone here worried about freaking Iran when USA is the only country to use nuclear weapons on civilians. Where they lie and cover up massive deathly doses from Fukushima and two nuclear power plants surrounded by floods and Los Freaking Alamos burning are all NO BIG DEAL

let me post an important link now that he ignored also. Its so terrifying that even I have to pretend I have doubts about where the data came from. No I am not scared, least of all for myself, but when you see things like this…. just a sec
