Radioactive “dust” doesn’t have the same sound to it as last Spring’s “noble gases”,”fallout”,”black rain, washout, etc.”?!! Now I concur that the good people here who calculated the timeline of the biggest of release event’s such as 10/22 would fit in well within the ETA posted within these pages-BUT,there have also been some less publicized accounts of sting operations where some arrests were made with “samples” of enriched Uranium intercepted while the “bigger fish” got away who claimed to have “kilograms” and more on hand, plus weapons-grade Plutonium for sale as well and was thought to be in “some other EU country” away from Moldovia where the arrests & seizure took place. So the detcetion of I-131 “at levels much lower than those from Japan in March,”plus” this radioactive “dust” has me thinking. “Is it possible that perhaps a dirty bomb or intentional dispersal of the Uranium & Plutonium that wasn’t recovered in the sting a month and a half or so ago is causing the “concern”,while ongoing fission at Fukushima is the source of the short-lived byproducts that might lead them to conclude it’s originating from a local NPP??!! It also would be convenient for face-saving effect if it were found to be the result of an accidental or intentional release & dispersal by the black market vendor or terrorist buyer resulting from the “sting operation” that netted only the 4.4 gram “sample” of Uranium instead of the “kingpin” who got away with the “keys” of Uranium & Plutonium seeing as how they’re talking about Alpha emitters now too?~Seems like nothing is impossible these days except an end to the crap being found everywhere & in greater numbers………..

contamination update from france
“Recent results concerning the control of gas iodine 131 in the ambient air in Valley of the Rhone:
Analyzes at the laboratory of the CRIIRAD of cartridges with activated carbon:
Valence (Drome) (taking away of the 7 at November 14, 2011), Iodine 131 < 0,095 millibecquerels per m3
Avignon (Vaucluse) (taking away of November 2, 2011), Iodine 131 < 0,3 millibecquerels per m3
Avignon (Vaucluse) (taking away of October 25 to November 2, 2011), Iodine 131 < 0,15 millibecquerels per m3
Toll of Roussillon (Isere) (taking away of November 2, 2011), Iodine 131 < 0,08 millibecquerels per m3
Toll of Roussillon (Isere) (taking away of October 25 to November 2, 2011), Iodine 131 < 0,12 millibecquerels per m3
Novels (Drome) (taking away of November 3, 2011), Iodine 131 < 0,11 millibecquerels per m3
Conclusion: the results above do not reveal contamination by iodine 131 higher than the limit of detection (<) on weekly countings of samples. This does not make it possible to exclude from the contaminations on levels which would be lower than the limits of detection but makes it possible to consider that if there were presence of iodine 131 it was on extremely low levels."

The radioactive isotopes Iodine 131 (short half-lives of 5 and 8 days) decays to long-lived Caesium-137 (with a half-life of 30.07 years) and Strontium 90 (with a half-life of 28.78 years). Barium 137 (half life 2.55 minutes) is the decay product of Caesium-137 (30.17 years, and a common fission product).
So iodine 131 decays in Caesium-137, is this correct?

hi lascap
131I decays with a half-life of 8.02 days with beta and gamma emissions. This nuclide of iodine atom has 78 neutrons in nucleus, the stable nuclide 127I has 74 neutrons. On decaying, 131I most often (89% of the time) expends its 971 keV of decay energy by transforming into the stable 131Xe (Xenon) in two steps, with gamma decay following rapidly after beta decay:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iodine-131#Radioactive_decay
according to this it becomes xenon 131
Report Comment
Yes i found out i was not correct and that it should be Iodine 131 decays into Xenon 131 which releases low y-radiation (to much y can damage DNA also)..

Caesium-137 (137 55Cs, Cs-137) is a radioactive isotope of caesium which is formed as a fission product by nuclear fission.
It has a half-life of about 30.17 years,[3] and decays by beta emission to a metastable nuclear isomer of barium-137: barium-137m (137mBa, Ba-137m). (About 95 percent of the nuclear decay leads to this isomer. The other 5.0 percent directly populates the ground state, which is stable.) Ba-137m has a half-life of about 153 seconds, and it is responsible for all of the emissions of gamma rays. One gram of caesium-137 has an activity of 3.215 terabecquerel (TBq).[4]

**Xenon 133 is a nuclear fission product that is closely monitored at nuclear stations around the world because it can be used to determine whether a country has conducted an illegal or covert nuclear test explosion. Such tests are banned under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which was adopted by the United Nations in 1996 and created a worldwide network of nuclear monitoring stations.
Similarly to how 911 emergency centers can pinpoint the location of a cell phone call by triangulating the signal between many different cell towers, nuclear stations within the network share information on Xenon 133 and other radioactive materials to determine where they originated. The network, established as part of CTBT, is crucial to detecting clandestine nuclear tests.
The detection of the radioactive gas in Washington is significant because it demonstrates technology advancements made by Biegalski, PNNL and others, to create a more sensitive monitoring system — one that’s capable of detecting extremely small amounts of the gas.**
“I think the conclusion was that this was a really major event here,” Cockrell School of Engineering Associate Professor Steven Biegalski said of the Fukushima disaster.

“Amman, Oct. 5 (Petra) – The Jordan Nuclear Regulatory Commission (JNRC) on Wednesday received four vehicle-based radiation monitoring system from the U.S Department of Energy, within the joint cooperation program to protect human being and environment and combat illicit trafficking of nuclear and radioactive materials.
He added that the new system will enhance the Kingdom’s ability to monitor nuclear and radioactive materials and protect local and international human beings and environment, pointing to the 2008 MoU signed between JNRC and U.S Department of Energy to prevent illegal trading of nuclear and radiological materials.
Under the MoU, Sharaf added, the U.S. will provide radiation detection equipment that will be used at Jordanian airports, seaports, and land border crossings …….”

For some reason Moldovia and something a couple months ago about a “sting” operation that had the main perps still at large with the bulk of materials involved still unrecovered and recollections of the mention of Plutonium comes to mind. Also “steel drums” of Uranium found on a remote stretch of beach in an African country as well as “experts” from the US called in to disarm a “suspicious device” at a warehouse in a city known as a “Ghadaffi stronghold” where they’d recovered radioactive materials weeks earlier…All of these obscure incidents somehow seem to hold a possible clue to “something”-I don’t know which or what or how-but my gut tells me one of these events may be somehow linked~maybe a “dirty bomb” attack that was “censored” to avoid panic as is the reasoning used in some scenarios response plans?!! I’m too wiped out on pain meds right now to follow up & I’m “on call”-in case my daughter decides to go to the hospital ER tonight & my wife had another seizure in her sleep last night as well..things are crappy here of late-but if anyone has any updates or an opinion about the possible items of interest I’d mentioned above-I’d appreciate any links or follow-ups even if I can barely keep my eyes open long enough to read a whole paragraph tonight…Thanks Have a nice weekend or at least whats left of it..

Dear Cold: In case you are not aware of this fact, the U.S. media is entirely censored. Time to learn at least one other language and continue to peruse as diverse an array of information and news sources as possible. Read books on how to develop critical thinking skills. Read, “Understanding Power, The Indispensable Chomsky”. You’re already using one of these skills and that’s to ask intelligent questions like, “why isn’t it [Iran attack of it's nuke facilities] being reported anywhere but the EU?”

CNSC and JNRC Sign Administrative Arrangement Pursuant to Canada-Jordan Nuclear Cooperation Agreement
September 24, 2009
“The CNSC establishes bilateral Administrative Agreements with its regulatory counterparts in various countries to ensure that imports and exports of nuclear material, equipment and technology between Canada and these countries are conducted in a manner consistent with Canada’s nuclear non-proliferation policy. The Arrangement with Jordan outlines the mechanisms to be used to implement the provisions contained in the NCA.

I WANT TO FUCKING KNOW!! I realise that it might seem a bit cheeky of me, i realise that the financial markets rely heavily on nuke investment moving instead of burning… but i dont give a flying fuck… just tell me… how many workers in the world who know what and how much contamination and where from?? you can protect your children… WHAT ABOUT MINE… this will be remembered! trust me….this will come back to bite you in the ass!

But of course what we will also pay for…at least according to Wasserman in 2009 would be a nuke accident.. “There is no “rainy day” fund to finance the clean-up after a reactor disaster. No one in government or industry can reasonably explain how we would pay for such a catastrophe.”
..and from what I read, 80% of every dollar generated by nuke power evaporates into high coveted salaries.. not a fund for cleaning up mess.

Quote of the Day, from transcript on fireman’s death at Ex-SKF:
“Why won’t they abandon it when other methods can compensate for its absence? Even when such a terrible disaster occurred? After all, it’s clear that they do nothing to take care of the aftermath. Nothing. Neither TEPCO nor the government.
That’s why nuclear electricity is said to be cheap. Of course it’s cheap, because they do nothing even when a worst-case scenario happens. Doing nothing costs nothing.”
http://ex-skf.blogspot.com/2011/11/rescue-squad-member-died-from-renal.html
Neither private corporations nor public governments in collapse can clean up local or global radiation disasters. Doing nothing costs nothing, and radiation is easy to hide and to deny.
