Title: Event Notification Report
Source: NRC
Date: April 29, 2013

[…] 50.72(b)(3)(ii)(A) – DEGRADED CONDITION […]

“This notification is being provided in accordance with 10CFR50.72(b)(2)(i), Plant Shutdown required by Technical Specifications, and 10CFR50.72(b)(3)(ii)A, Degraded or Unanalyzed Condition.

“At 2245 CDT on 04/27/13, LaSalle Unit 1 [Illinois] commenced a Technical Specification required plant shutdown, due to identification of pressure boundary leakage. At 2124 CDT on 04/27/13, a through-wall leak was identified in the body of 1E51-F076, Reactor Core Isolation Cooling system steam supply inboard isolation bypass warmup valve. This qualifies as pressure boundary leakage, which requires entry into Technical Specification 3.4.5, Reactor Coolant System Operational Leakage, Required Action C, to be in Mode 3, Hot Shutdown, by 0924 [CDT] on 04/28/13, and Mode 4, Cold Shutdown, by 0924 [CDT] on 04/29/13. This leakage is significantly less than 10 gpm and therefore does not meet the threshold for entry into the Emergency Action Plan. At the time of discovery, Unit 1 was in startup mode following a forced outage. A unit shutdown has been initiated. A repair plan is being prepared at this time, and the unit will remain in Cold Shutdown until repairs are complete.”

The leak is located inside the primary containment and was visually identified during a containment walk-down. […]

and their immediate report out was no worries y'all… so typical, so predictable, so corrupt. ShutThemAllDown!

  • Time Is Short Time Is Short

Imagine if all the bangers in Chicago knew how close they and their families all are to being wiped out by radiation from a failing NPP, and how little anyone in government cares.

    Just a matter of time now . . .

    • lam335 lam335

There are a lot of corrupt politicians in Chicago too. One wonders how much they understand and how they can let such things continue. They and their families live there too.

      • Time Is Short Time Is Short

I would guess they're being well paid to shut up. They'd sell their mothers for a congressional seat.

They clearly have no problem selling Senate seats.

  • Sickputer

No yakuza winos from Tokyo to mop up that hot water…so some poor Bears fan gets that toxic duty.

Maybe this guy in the middle gets the dooky duty:

Or maybe the lady on the left… She has more muscles than the guy!

  • Nukites

Don't worry they can Math it back into a totally safe and operable

I've been so sick since the storm and flooding that I had to have my wife stay with her mother for many of the days since LaSalle got hit by lightning and since my Geiger Counter was showing elevated, fluctuating readings & nothing further was mentioned about LaSalle I assumed perhaps there was radioactive pollen involved as I have been suffering nosebleeds and migraine headaches along with other symptoms indicative of a cardiac condition that I never had known problems with before(?)!. Now this update on the POS puke plant Obama's "special-friends" from Excelion has in perfect position to keep filling the already overcrowded cancer wings of Chicago area hospitals!! It makes me sick!!-both physically and metaphorically! Someone said "the Bangers should know about this",well there's a handful of gangbangers who do know about the nuke issues thanks to me but in all honesty their respect for me and what I tell them is mainly due to the gaping .45 holes in my leg rather than concern for their own health so I guess they'll be dying of radiation exposure if their lifestyle doesn't get them shot 1st(?)!! I guess I'm gonna be annoying my Face Book friends with this link I'm about to ruin their day with(?)-(if they're smart enough to grasp the situation for what it is and what it means to them?!!) I got more on this subject but I have to leave for a bit. I'm pissed off beyond words and fear for family and friends who live close to LaSalle I need to alert now. 😐 ~**

Good never to be fixed and restarted and another one bites the dust, the dominos will fall one by one from now on, the cost to repair will not be economical what is important now is the decommissioning of plants and waste etc.

  • TheBigPicture TheBigPicture

You wouldn't want to live within a hundred miles of that plant, or any nuclear plant. They give off radiation.

  • They get floored by a lightning strike? They work with Electric ffs, Tesla must be rolling in his grave.

  • PhilipUpNorth PhilipUpNorth

Word is that they will try yet another "restart",
Without rewelding (again) a defective part,
    Within a defective system,
    Within an aging nuclear plant,
    With numerous design-flaws.

And all us downwinders just hope
We can have an hour or two
To clear out when it blows,
    When another simple reactor trip
    Turns a nuclear plant,
    Into another Rogue Nuclear Reactor,
Making its way into the ground
Under the ruins of the LaSalle NPP.

I have drawn up a disaster evacuation plan for my family.
Typed it up and put it in the glove compartment of the family cars.

    Hope you have a plan
In case your neighborhood nuclear plant
Turns into a Rogue Nuclear Reactor,
    With no Control Room,
    No Containment,
    No Control Rods,
    No Cooling Pumps,
    No Heat Sink.

    Just loose in nature.

    Leaving a signature,
That someday may be catalogued by visiting space aliens,
    As a sentient race,
    That developed the science,
    That built the industries,
That killed off the sentient species,
That left only the radiation signature…

So, the Unit was in about to get restarted after a forced outage and meanwhile lost reactor coolant, right? But no worries, as it lost less than 10 gallons per minute?

'Reactor Core Isolation Cooling system steam supply inboard isolation bypass warmup valve'

Wow. I really LOVE this nuke-tech terminology. That's 12 words for naming a valve!

And how about the 'Reactor Core Isolation Cooling system steam supply outboard isolation bypass cooldown valve actuator motor connector fuse holder socket mounting screws'?

Imagine an accident and you have to send some people to that location. Before you even finished telling the name of the defective part the whole shit blows up. Great technology!

  • razzz razzz

I am still trying to figure out what "a through-wall leak" is. I take it the valve body was either cracked or corroded through and this on the 'hot' side. The pressurized loop that carries the radioactive water around the fuel rods. It leaked radioactive water.

Not sure why radiation sensors didn't detect it while they found the leak during visual inspection. Can't quite picture it.

  • Cavebear Cavebear

Reduced pressure is not likely with such a small leak.

A through-wall leak means that there's a hole to the outside in the valve body. A valve can also leak inside. Means it doesn't shut off the flow completely but it appears to be sound from the outside.

Anyway '… less than 10 gallons per minute' is REALLY not a big leak in a NPP, isn't it? If i did the math right, it fills a barrel in less than 10 minutes. So what the heck. You can expect leaks like that every day in a 40 year old facility!

only 29? Hm…… looks like its moldering faster than i thought πŸ™‚

Video-ALERT! Radioactive Core Leak At La Salle, IL Nuclear During Restart, April 29, 2013 portblog

I did not know about this until about 10 minutes ago (looks like last week was bad time to take a rare news break). I've been wondering why my thyroid is feeling swollen yesterday and now (been out of state). My nostrils have been burning but I thought I must have been imagining things. I drank down some Zeolite (Even though I know it also is contaminated from nuke testing. We can only work with what we have now days.) last night because sometimes that gets the swelling down but it did not work because (now I know) it was because of inhalation-not something I ate. And to think we were enjoying the lack of massive chemtrailing out on the balcony last night. : (

MI, Ohio, Indiana, WV, Penn, western NY, part of Canada are getting a swirling vortex of this contamination which must have also came down in the rain yesterday:

    EPA rad monitoring-radiation climbing.

"And to think we were enjoying the lack of massive chemtrailing out on the balcony last night. : ( "

      Sounds like …
They did not spray the cattle because radiation was to high for their own likings …?? I hope not …
