My concern is that SFP-4 will go and prevent access to 5 and 6, plus the common fuel pool, which contains even more crap than SFP-4.
From that point, it may make it impossible to access Daini. If I was an operator (and I was a power plant operator), I would be afraid to go to the mens room for fear something would break in that General Electric junk.

so they are sorry for raising the 1mSv to 20MsV, yet I have not heard of an extension to the evacuation areas? 1mSv would include Tokyo by now for sure wouldn't it?
at least I get the impression of some accountability in Japan. In the US all truth would surely be Cor-exited™

pierre, I agree with you – there is a level of accountability in Japan that i have never seen in the US. I read recently, or heard it perhaps on an alternative news blog, that having survived the A-bomb and endured, and then being convinced to accept this new westernized energy and go nuclear – not a easy accomplishment there given the sentiment – to now find themselves betrayed by their own government again, has stirred up the public heart for many in Japan all the way down to a deeper current of unsettled waters.

I would be very interested interested to know what the readers here think the last straw will be. These are the ones I know of:
1. unfixable leakage due to corrosion from sea water
2. earth quake causing building to collapse, or at least partially collapse
3. mechanical failure leading to overheating and/or explosion
4. explosion from inside or under a building
… there are more, i'm no expert.
I have thought that it's more likely to be corrosion than an earthquake. But what do I know

Any of these are probable. I see eventually doom and gloom for us and the world, but I hope for the best.
Who knows, a solar flare could do us all in before any of that could happen?

The 'Degraded Reactor 4' links based on Shimatsu's engineering experience, suggests the N. half of R4 bldg is leaning into the southern half. On one TBS vid I saw the cover clearly leaning SE. Shimatsu says it's very likely the bldg foundation is cracked in several places. Whatever Tepco does now, they may not outrun threat of a moderate quake that further rearranges the weight distribution of an already cracked/partly collapsed building. A sharp jolt N to S could shove the S. half of bldg. leading to collapse of the sfp, or, settling from water underneath the sfp portion of bldg. will do same. The metal cover distributes the weight of the crane over both N and S halves of the bldg. Cross beams are popped out due to torque on the N. bldg. pillars. The sfp support structure sticks out of the hole on the S. bldg half and the sfp is tilted. Water or quake causing torque or more settling of N or S bldg. may cause sfp collapse overnight, despite assurances the S. half of R4 bldg. is in better shape.

Is seawater still cooling the sfp? Is the tonnage of rad water exiting the sfp to the ocean or under the plant now? Barring a moderate quake nearby the plant, my guess is water will collapse the bldg faster due liquefaction of soil and lubrication of faults that are through and nearby the plant (near R4, btw!). Meanwhile, potential loss of the 'gate' seal to the main reactor or more fires/burning of fuel will make R4 look like R1-2 in the near future (game over). The links below talk about the geology. The plant is built on coarse sandstone, basement built below sea level (dropped further from 3/11 settling), all leakage goes towards the ocean – go figure! wasn't it Yoichi Shimatsu who implied in a rense audio interview that SPF4 was down or collapsed inside the building sending quite a few people into a tizzy recently?

Interesting to ponder what ailing part of what's left of the Daiichi site will go totally belly up – and how long TEPCO and the Japanese govt. will be able to hide or minimize it — but what I wonder most is – will any of these nuclear criminals ever be brought to justice? – kind of along the line of the Nuremberg trials of some of the Nazi war criminals?
Underlying this debacle is – to call a spade a spade – an international crime syndicate and a whole network of 'white collar' crimes and cover-ups resulting in many deaths, injuries, suffering, and huge property losses.
The whole world is gingerly stepping around that glaringly obvious fact.
