HORRIBLE NEWS…what;s new when it comes to Daiichi.

Why the Japanese, and citizens and bloggers worlwide concerned for Japanese as well as world safety, do not understand that Fuku requires a massive decontamination effort, such as is being done by the backers of the $1 BIL Chernobyl Novarka ("New Arch") now under construction, continues to astonish me.
Watch the animation below, and compare that gargantuan Ukranian-European structural undertaking with the Fuku-tepco water cooling temperature-control charade:

Why aren't they doing this at Daiichi? TOO MUCH MONEY, NOT FEASIBLE? Tweeted TY jumpball

Jump-ball: Wonderful animation! This is the scale that is required to deal with Fuku. Perhaps they have ideas for Fuku. We are just a bit concerned here by TEPID response of tepgov. They can't even keep thermometers working, can't figure a way to look inside Containments 1 & 3. Only thing keeping SFP 4 up in the air is hope and bailing wire!
Problem at Fuku is under the reactor buildings, where coriums are. And where water table is near the surface. At Chernobyl, they were able to tunnel under the reactor building to build a concrete floor to keep corium inside the building. Only one reactor to deal with. At Fuku, we have 3 coriums out of containment, and probably out of the buildings. We have the Pacific Ocean only feet away. And we have Building 4 about to fall, perhaps releasing enough radioactivity to kill most life on Earth. Fuku is many times worse than Chernobly. Needs steel, lead, and concrete walls sunk deep into bedrock around all four reactor buildings. Then a concrete sarcophagus covering all four plants, then a Novarka arch over everything. Nice! Don't worry about the money. Just do it! BTW, we need a good animator to make a video showing how this could be done.

philipupnorth – thanks for the nice differentiation of the fuku ocean-shore topology vs. the Chernobyl land base, and the summary of what the world has to face from the fuku disaster.
I studied the differences last year and proposed (here @ ENE) that since a Chernobyl-like sarcophagus would not work over fuku's high water table, that new containment pits could be built beside each reactor, and then the corium dredged by remote-control into the adjacent, new, sarcohagi, and later covered, protecting both the watertable/ocean and the atmosphere.
If this were at all feasible, an arch-like cover ala Novarka would still have to be erected over fuku before the corium transfer was begun, so as to contain otherwise airborne emissions: the purpose of the Novarka arch is not to contain the increasingly cracked and leaking 2nd Chernobyl sarcophagus amendment, but to cover the containment debris so that the increased emissions resulting from the rebuilding of the sarcophagus by the contracted American company will not enter the atmosphere while the work is being done.

Jump-ball. The only problem is they are not building it.
1) The workers are currently busy building soccer/football stadiums (I'm not kidding)
2) They kept some reactors running in Tchernobyl after the accident. Thus, the fuel rods of those reactors must be stored somewhere else before they build the new containment. However, Areva, who built that new storage building made a terrible work as the building is not watertight, thus not suitable for storing the rods.

If the airline or ship industry had the same scale of disaster that FUKU did, they would be out of business immmediately.
The nuclear industry seems to think that they can have a huge disaster that wipes out 10,000 square kilometers, and pollute the whole planet with toxic radiation that lasts BILLIONS of years, every twenty years, and prosper.

bouillabaisse daiichi:all sample-fishes without any tail fins !
http://youtu.be/-B96xCcsuGc
so it is a matter of time before the transparent children are born as well, in the Marshall Islands and Chernobyl they are known as "jellyfish children," so even for the children who don't die of holes in their hearts or leukemia or brain disease, they now have a decent chance of giving birth to children without bones.
This DNA damage caused by nuclear radiation doesn't ever go away, but rather spreads throughout the population. So by "decomissioning," I mean that your grandchildren will be dying of heart disease, metastatic cancer, immune disease, etc., and if they live long enough to reproduce, their children may not have bones. Their children's children face a similar fate.
When I say that Fukushima is three times as bad as Chernobyl, I really mean more like 400+ as CB on enenews has said, it is really incalculable because there was so much MOX fuel that exploded, a mix of plutonium and uranium, and as Dr. Caldicott says, 'One millionth of a gram of plutonium ingested causes cancer.' Aerosolized plutonium made it as far as Lithuania, and some of the highest amounts of radionuclides early on were in…

It's still too radioactive to decommission at this point. They need to develop new technology to decommission Fukushima, as we have nothing affordable that can accomplish the task. The real problem lies beneath the reactors, where the washed core is spreading isotopes into the ground water. Chernobyl had a subsurface pad created to stem the core's descent (at the cost of many lives). They can't do that at Fukushima because of the water table being so shallow and the constant flow of water into and out of the reactors. As long as the water flows for cooling, they will never be able to seal the plant from beneath. It would futile to cover the reactors, as only a small percentage of the current release is going into the atmosphere.

I have been following you guys @ enenews for the last 13 months. This is my first time posting. First a big thank you to administration and all who post here for the education on nuclear energy. I never did understand why the actions of a corporation or a country are held to such different standards than an individual. If I was to release toxins into the ocean or onto my nieghbors land, I would be held accountable. I would be charged, jailed and all my assets would be seized to pay the clean up. Maybe the three aircraft carriers that are threatening Iran should be parked in Tokyo bay.All of Japans govt. and Tepco's board should be arrested and tried for crimes against humanity. Japan should be occupied as it was in 1945, Every resource in the country should be siezed to help pay for shutting this down. No country has the right to kill an ocean and export uncontroled radiation to the world. It has been over a year now and the disaster is still on going. Japan you had your chance now step aside.
Report Comment
Hi glowing wood, welcome onboard. Glad to hear new voices here, but please (that's my personal opinion) cut the "occupy Japan / step aside" stuff.
That's just not helpful. Fuku is unfixable, even for whoever wanting Japan to be occupied again. Think about it.

. Except that it is in the interest of all nations not to let Fuku kill the entire planet. Therefore, let's have a UN led effort to actually begin to deal with Fuku, and end this nightmare. Then, we can worry about who pays what. BTW, Japan is toast. Vultures are just cleaning up the rest of the meat on those bones. Soon enough there will be only the wind blowing through deserted Japanese streets.
Report Comment
Philip, no personal criticism meant, but do you know the entire history of the UN?
The UN is part of the vulture problem. Global social agendas are implemented through the UN.
Report Comment
By "UN" I meant an International effort is required to deal with Fuku. As a little kid, I spent Halloween going door-to-door for UNICEF. So I know that the UN does some good things. Does the UN do anything substantial for humanity? Not so much. Are the new world order types trying to coop the UN to further their goal of worldwide control under a world government? Most certainly. The UN is merely a reflection of the poor state of humanity on Planet Earth. If left to TEPCO and Japanese Government, however, nothing significant will be done for years and years. Back to jump-ball's post above, Fuku is a dire threat to all of humanity and many other life forms on Earth. Tepgov response just doesn't cut it. Fuku needs an international response on the order of Chernobyl Novarka.
Report Comment
Oh, and BTW, the IAEA and several other organizations are directly tied to the UN. The UN will not take any action unfavorable to the nuclear industry. Nuclear history experts have written about this at length.

The report above highlights the relationships and close ties between the IAEA, UN, and ICRP. IMHO important to understand the history and funding of international "watchdog" agencies and their relationship to the UN.
Report Comment
There is much more describing the relationship between the ICRP and IAEA, but I'd have to dig through a lot of stuff in my nuke library to get that for you. If you do a search on IAEA and ICRP, and do some reading on the history, you'll understand why the UN is completely ineffectual (with a few exceptions) in the area of radiological protection.
Report Comment
Not directly "tied" as in being part of the same organization, but in the sense of not being independent in their actions, that is.

You guys are right it is the technology that is bad and an accident could occur any where at any time. The Japanese people are victims of this as we all are. I am angry this morning with the whole situation. I live in the west of Canada,I am a bush rat. I look outside at my lake and the wilderness I enjoy and see it changing. The small birds and small wild life are very few in numbers now. The big game population seems to be ok yet. We worry as our drinking water comes from a well beside the lake. We have never benefited from nuke power out here so why should we pay the price for the actions of others? The whole industry and power structure are insane!

HoTaters: Everything I needed to know to mistrust the IAEA is in their Charter:
"Article II: The Agency shall seek to accelerate and enlarge the contribution of atomic energy…throughout the world".
In the US, we have the NRC, which is dedicated to the protection of the nuclear industry, rather than the protection of the people FROM atomic energy. The NRC and US Government remains quiet while the American people have been poisoned, while the air and oceans have been poisoned. Instead, a bunch of fools from the House has toured a meat packing plant to assure the American people that it is OK to eat "red slime" in ground beef.
Tepgov has poisoned, and perhaps killed, the entire population of greater Tokyo, and ruined Japan. They have condemned millions of children to death. Do you think that Tepgov will continue to be able to pursue its agenda in the face of the coming anti-nuclear hysteria? Do you believe the slow-to-anger Japanese people will take this quietly? Doubt it. Tepgov will be swept away.
All of these agencies will be swept aside as the world's people discover what atomic energy, the nuke industry, and Fuku have done to them. The IAEA will be swept away. NRC: the people will soon be at your door. Tepgov, dust off your "worst case scenario", for it has come to pass. The Fuku monster is at your door, and has come to eat your children!
