These plants are 40+ years old, of course they’re going to start breaking down much more frequently. They are far more complicated and vulnerable than your average car or house, and maintained far more poorly. Expect the list of nuclear disasters to occur at a more and more rapid rate.

Hi farawayfan, agreed. Mack just posted a link on the discussion thread saying the NRC is evaluating if nukes should be online for even longer than 60 years.
I guess govmts are in a dilemma now (I see the same here next door in France):
- nuclear newbuild? Too expensive.
- renewables? Sorry, overslept that one. En plus, too expensive.
- rubberstaming? quick fix solution.

They’ve known about problems with these tubes for years!

“Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) reports that cracking of steam generator tubes is surging in US reactors. Cracking has been identified by NRC as having serious safety implications because the thousands steam generator tubes constitute a major reactor coolant pressure boundary.”

Some months ago a shill posted here that today’s problems are caused by anti-nukes successfully limiting new reactor startups. In his view, the poor industry has to get by with antiquated equipment as a result. They can/do/will spin anything to their advantage at any opportunity.

Shut down old clunkers:
sell one to Cuba,
make one cooling tower
the worlds biggest tuba,
make one an attraction
for tourists to see,
make another a hive
for homeless bees,
use one for base-jumping,
another for condos,
make one a bass-thumping
speaker for gonzos.
All these plans and more
are about saving money,
longterm job creation
and bureaucrat honey,
as studies are needed
across the whole nation -
just don’t expect the
risks to be heeded,
unless and of course
the people demand
an end to insanity
of nuclear plans.

20 years of “life” left in these aging reactors built on fault lines and flood plains. The aging, cracked pipes need constant maintenance and supervision. Who is going to take care of this in the future? Where are the resources going to come from to keep a constant flow of energy to these devices for the next 50,000 years? Why is the responsible of every future generation of mankind to take care of the mess created in the past 50 years? We are such an arrogant, clueless society to have allowed these ELE contraptions to be built in the first place. Why is it when politicians talk about building better future for our children, they fail to comprehend that our children will be paying the cost of our need for instate gratification? It’s amazing that the US has more than a hundred of these reactors. The PTB have manifested their desire for Armageddon.

And 10 TEN United States nuclear plants have contaminiated water under containment vessel. “Dricks said that 10 other nuclear power plants have reported radioactive water beneath their containment structures.”–SO? And something was done to correct? Or is this just said to let everyone know tritium in groundwater is perfectly okay? Just “smile and be happy”…sound familiar?

We’ll never be able to fully trust you, but you know, all you have to do to create all kinds of problems getting away with B.S. for America’s government, that is, more perfectly, to rectify all kinds of problems, is just tell the American people the truth. Just tell them the truth about news subjects which our government and corporate-acracy censor. Don’t put any, not one iota, of propaganda in it. Don’t try to trick, deceive, or defraud any American. Just tell the truth. Just perform the function no longer performed by 98% of American news media, and assign your intelligence services to the task of making sure your media is not bought out and subverted by the same folks who bought out and subverted ours.

I really would like to have a positive outlook about all of this. Being someone who has a brain. It’s not possible.
I will say I have a lot of hope though. There are a lot of ppl on this site. I watch the counter grow more every day.
This site among a few others continues to help inform me. I in turn use this knowledge to inform my friends and family. I hope my friends in San Clemente are paying attention. I hope they sign the petition to ban nuclear powered energy generation.
