Fairewinds Calls for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to Delay Licensing Until Fukushima Lessons Are Evaluated, Fairewinds Associates, April 25, 2011:
Transcript Summary
- The nuclear industry had a worst case assumption of 1% failed fuel on one reactor…
- We’ve got multi unit sites and 70% failed fuel at 3 reactors at Fukushima…
- The NRC assumed containments would leak at a half a percent a day…
- At Fukushima we have 3 reactor containments leaking at enormously amounts [sic] more than that… at one, water is literally pouring out of the side of it…
- NRC said there was a zero percent probability that a containment will leak. At Fukushima there are three containments leaking.

the NRC does not think outside the box. check.
most people cannot think outside the box. check.
time to take out the yellow flag. check.
this can only get much worse, there is no such things as a safe does of dangerous radionuclides. check.
let’s not forget about the fukushima daiichi massive spent fuel rod pools that are in serious trouble.

The Trend: Worse and Worser
“…this can only get much worse, …” – bluejayway
I agree bluejayway.
We must act now because these radioactive particles accumulate over time inside the body and in the environment.
The passage of time makes the contamination worse, not better. Water and wind will only redistribute the contamination. Obviously, but no one is thinking about what the accumulated levels will be through time.
The way things are trending, it is important to begin to take protective actions now. Despite the fact that almost no one is acting defensively.
As an example of what can be done.
I have just completed the installation of a whole house filtration system, adding to three point of use RO and post-purification DI. It was the first time I have seen 4 plumbers in one location.

how many people can afford that? or get permission to do it -if you are in an apt do you hook up your own tap and shower? will it remove all rads? showering, washing clothes, dishes etc seems impossible.

Jess,
Good Questions. For apartment dwellers the most affordable system would be a four stage under the counter, Premier-RO system made by the Watts company. The System is sold in my area at Costco for $189.99. It is easy to install and change the filters. RO will pull a percentage of the radioactive particles out of the water. From the RO faucet, fill up the top of a Zero water pitcher, available on Amazon for less than $70. Your RO water will pass through the 5 stage filter and will be as pure as the best bottled water. The Zero water system is a very effective ion exchange system, which works like larger scale DI dual resin systems used in commercial applications and labs. The Zero Water company makes no claims about radiation removal.
These suggestions are not ideal modalities, but as a first response to this emergency, it is a good start. For about $260 + tax, you have a core system which will serve you well. I have covered this topic in further detail in older posts.
It’s an inexpensive way to begin to protect your most immediate need, pure water. Although no one can claim 100% purity, it is a very positive step in the right direction.
For showering in an apartment setting, use a carbon filter installed before the shower head. This will remove a percentage of chlorine which will help reduce the volatility of I-131 now found in the tap water and will help absorb I-131 in a gaseous state present in the water.
For food prep use your RO water. If the radiation level gets high, use the RO water to bathe with, it is an option.
In an apartment setting you would need to wash your clothing normally. Do not use chlorine bleach, instead us borax added to your detergent. Use the Dryer instead of outdoor line drying.
Here is a great option, but costs more.
There are larger volume RO systems produced by Watts, consider the 100 gallon per day Watts Kwik-Change Radioactivity Reduction Reverse Osmosis system, featuring a permeate pump. For $349.95 @ USWaterSystems.com – It will recharge (refill) the tank faster and use less water, enabling you to use the water to bathe in, camp style (with bucket) and even do your wash & dish rinsing, but not enough for showering.
You could purchase a camp shower bladder, fill it with warm RO water and hang it in the shower, presto, just soap and shower. In an emergency, beats showering with radioactive contaminated water, any day. If things get as bad as we suspect it will, you will have options with this higher capacity system to take protective measures.
This system is my #1 recommendation for point of use applications in an apartment. If money is an issue go with the Costco RO. You can always upgrade later. But the main thing is you need to begin the process of protecting your health.

Noah, if it gets that bad, it will be the responsibility of each city to install deionizing and zeolite filters to filter the municipal water supply. To leave this to individuals would be genocide.

People ask me what the U.S. is doing as far as instructing/helping Japan with a solution.
I honestly don’t know the answer.
Does anyone know what the U.S. is doing? Do we have physicists/engineers over there helping out, etc.?
Report Comment
Oh, we don’t need to send physicists and engineers, FYI. We have President obama, who makes all things well with the magic of his voice and his elevated discourse. And the Most Holy Obama is saying … is saying …
Er, what HAS Obama said about it?

Don’t you wonder what Jimmy Carter thinks? He’s a nuclear engineer with naval reactor experience and no doubt, more complete briefings than us.

We have Smarter Computers LMAO We still have the same DUMB SHITS running them.
Ere many generations pass, our machinery will be driven by a power obtainable at any point of the universe. This idea is not novel. Men have been led to it long ago by instinct or reason; it has been expressed in many ways, and in many places, in the history of old and new. We find it in the delightful myth of Antheus, who derives power from the earth; we find it among the subtle speculations of one of your splendid mathematicians and in many hints and statements of thinkers of the present time. Throughout space there is energy. Is this energy static or kinetic! If static our hopes are in vain; if kinetic — and this we know it is, for certain — then it is a mere question of time when men will succeed in attaching their machinery to the very wheel work of nature.

mankind has managed to destroy the precious biosphere and the planet earth along with it in less than a few hundred years. since the dawn of the industrial revolution. the contamination of the northern hemispshere and the entire globe is just the beginning of a very rough time for the human race. it is an ominous shadow that we cast for future generations of humans.

Slowing things down has done us alot good so far.

This is a very strong statement from Arnie Gunderson… he’s asking for a call to arms.
He’s saying it’s high time for concerned individuals (laymen, lobbyists, advocacy groups, etc) to contact their local officials and demand a freeze on all licensing for new and already existing nuclear plants.
And he’s right. It’s time to stop, step back, look at the big picture, analyze the situation of the nuclear industry, and take the bull by the horns.
Only we can do that. Whining on the internet about what’s going on at Fukishima is not going to halt the day to day ongoing activities of the nuclear industry.
They need to be stopped in their tracks, in order to sequester further future problems for the time being, so that we can figure out what our next steps need to be.

ARNIE I am afraid will end up the same as JOHN WHEELER

LOL he was a very significant role player in HAARP

At this rate WE”LL END UP LIKE JOHN WHEELER ANYWAY-dead. But on installment, not immediately.
What will it take for the people of this country to take a stand ON ANYTHING other than football? The most shocking thing about all of this has been the behavior of these cattle who literally wont even moo, just apathetically plod to slaughter. Surreal.

I agree.
People just look at me like I am a martian when I talk about fallout or chemtrails.

Go to google earth and zoom in on the deep part of the Gulf of Mexico, straight line down from LaPlace, Louisiana and north west of the title “Gulf of Mexico.”
What is with the man made raking of the ocean floor in straight lines? Also, there are some weird dome objects that have been newly placed on the ocean floor.

I saw the video of that the was put up on utube, strange indeed ! Posted the link some time back here !

See that’s the problem…..mankind and it’s need for greed. Until we solve that problem the world is at high risk for distruction. If people could just be happy with what they have, then we would all have something and be happy, instead of this capitalist ideology of more is better…well we got…we got more oil in the gulf, more plutonium in the soil, more carbon, pollutants, pesticides…oh we have more alright!

It would be wise to do what fairewinds suggests, before the Nuke you live next to ends up in the hands of a specutative Hedge Fund looking for 30% plus profits.
Report Comment
Its not the hedge funds that are coming. Its the Stuxnet virus. Just shut down a refinery in Tex where computers failed for “unknown reasons”. Sure. At some point, that phenom will begin popping all over the country. The cattle will continue grazing with a mooooo. “Wonder what that was? Why cant people just behave?” chomp, chomp.

I heard they also had to shut down a reactor in Oklahoma a few days ago. No reasonwas given as to why it was shut down.
Hmmm

Yep, Virgina and Oklahoma from tornadoes:

folks if anyone would like to send a couple of dollars to mr gunderson that would be great.
he has a donate button on his website.
this fine man along dr christopher busby and Helen Caldicott are some few experts standing up and trying to be heard.
it would be very easy for arnie to take a consultancy bribe money to keep quite or say everything is fine.
he is burning bridges in his industry by doing these fantastic updates.
if you can instead of buying that double shot cesium ridden latte, donate the money to arnie.

Agreed.
I sent Arnie’s foundation a donation a few weeks back. His efforts are worth it’s weight in gold as far as I’m concerned.

If you just watched the msm, you’d think this disaster was over, little does everyone know this has just started, question’s, if fuel rods take years and years to cool down, how are they going to cool them down in 6 months, 2 reators, people can’t even go into them, why dont they give us updated thermal data inside the reactor’s,we have both w-c radiation planes over there, anyone have a real timeframe, i think at least 1-2 years to bring under control with at least hundreds of years of uninhabited land(that land being at least half of japan and unknown effects to the pacific), correct me if i’m wrong but i see them as out of control tiny sun’s on earth, maybe a little extreme but really the same nuclear fission, and everything that comes with the sun, ahla radiation
