  • Linda Moulton Howe, reporter: “Remember when [Arnie Gundersen] was referencing the gargantuanism — it appears to be increasing, as he said, in the third generation of plants. And who knows what’s going to happen in the fourth, fifth, and so forth. The trauma of seeing these gigantic… there is a photograph of this, what they call ‘gargantuan strawberry’ in Fukushima Prefecture… [There] is a gigantic beetit is almost as big as the upper part of the man trying to hold the big beet. And then [there] is something that several people have reported in different parts of Fukushima — where trees of, in this case, it’s a photograph of [leaves] from two species of maple. And it shows a contrast from what a normal leaf should look like, to one that is, gosh, three times bigger. And they’re seeing more and more of thispeople are reporting more and more of these abnormalities in the trees in the surroundings.”

Hello everyone, I've been working on trying to fix the FORUM problems such as:

    – Most recent comments not appearing in random places and not at the bottom as they should.
    – Missing comment boxes which prevented new comments form being added.

Due to problems that couldn't be resolved, I had to start new threads for:

    – 'General Nuclear Issues Discussion Thread'
    – 'Fukushima Webcam Discussion Thread'
    – 'Off-Topic Discussion Thread (Non-Nuclear Issues)'

Links to the old forum discussions for those 3 can be found on the pages for the new forums.

Some of the lesser used forums were removed from the 'Discussion Thread' list seen on each page's right column. They have been archived and can still be found by clicking the link below the list of 'Discussion Threads' that says: 'See All Discussion Threads' (

Hopefully the forums are working properly now. If not, please reply to this comment.

Apologies for not fixing things sooner… had some interesting server issues (i.e. brute force attacks) and other issues.

    Thanks for your support everyone,

The Sound of Silence updated 2016

Hello Radiation your not our friend
You have come to Cancer us again

Because your Isotopes are softly creeping
Left its Actinides while we are sleeping

And the Nuclides that was planted in our brains
        Still remains

Within the sound of radiation's silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone

        Narrow streets of cobblestone
Neath the halo of a boiling water reactors lit street lamp

I turned my collar to the contaminated cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of

Gamma ray light…….that split the night
And created the sound…of Atomic silence

        • Gasser Gasser

And in the Nuclear flash of light I saw
Ten thousand people dying, maybe more

People talking without the NRC hearing
          NRC hearing without listening

People writing sing say's that voices will share
          And only enenews,com dared

Disturb the sound of Fukushima's silence
Fools said we, You do not know

          Silence like a cancer grows
Hear our words that we might teach you

Take our facts and logic that might reach you
But our words like silent Radioactive raindrops fell

          As meltdown Corium's criticality echoed
In the Worlds aquifer's wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the Nuclear Devil they made

And enenews flashed out its warning
In the words that bad shit was forming

And the signs said, the words of the prophets
are written on the subway walls

          And Cyber World halls
Screaming beyond the sounds of silence

It's a terrible thing to tell women not to bear children — to have no families. Yet it's apparently been done in Fallujah, Iraq, and the abortion rate in Japan (since deformities can be spotted on sonograms) apparently speaks for itself. The women and children of Belarus should be spared this suffering by not bearing children. But it's still a terrible thing to have to resort to that.*

Depleted uranium from U.S. weapons. Despicably, that is LEGAL. There is some "limit per weapon" law which allows it. Of course, for a long time now, it has been known/suspected that "Gulf War Syndrome" amongst U.S. veterans has also been from depleted uranium weapons. Also resulting in a higher number of deformed children fathered by those men.

I have NEVER seen this before and now it is a normal thing to see all over southern Alberta. Very common in the poplar trees all around here.

Yes, odd things are happening, and fake radiation distributed worldwide will alter the behavior of those living things that sense its presence and utilize it. We know very little about such things, but it appears our observations are the key to learning how varied vegetation reacts when assaulted with fake radiation signatures that are not natural to their environments.

        Great Find!

      • HoTaters HoTaters

Our Hydrangeas have strange variegated leaves this year. One half of a geranium has green leaves now, other pieces have light yellow leaves with green veins. This just began happening about a year ago.

The hydrangea actually has chimera leaves on it which just sprouted a few months ago. Two of the four leaves on the petal end are green, two are a light yellow-pink. I've never seen anything like this before.

Last year I found two leaved clover plants coming up in some of our potted plants. Not three or even the unusual four leaved clover. TWO leaves. So odd.

Lots of plants with fasciated stalks, too, around here. Hoping this year won't be worse than last year. We got a lot of rain in California (more or less a normal rain year). The only time the radiation counts went up much was during the last storm, which ended yesterday. It lasted for two days.

Jebus is right, we're seeing a LOT of changes, and we're only five years into this ….

The creepiest thing I've seen (well, how do you say which one is the creepiest when there are so many of them????) was the huge walls of foam billowing up off the ocean and blowing onto the Oregon Coast. Major creepy.

You may be right. I hope so. But the nature of radioactive damage is generally irreversible and escalating. It's the ultimate demon — worse than all wars combined.

  • CodeShutdown CodeShutdown

The deformities of plants and animals in Fukushima show the monstrous effects of man made radiation. It is a nightmare..

You wont find the reason for this hideous man made tragedy by looking at radiation levels and dose rates. What must be understood is that minute, even non detectable man made radioactive poisons previously unknown to plant and animal spread invisibly like an alien blanket of misery and death. Scientists and the public are blinded to the reality because of a failed dose model.

The model rests on an insidiously deceptive precept; that you can group all radioactive elements together and judge the danger based on radioactivity. To fight against this flaw of science and reasoning is almost impossible. The truth is, the planet was always radioactive but only man made radiation caused mental retardation, deformed plants and the near extinction of species like sea stars.

check the 'low' levels of Fukushima radiation here that compare favorably to background radiation

Tourists want to know, how dangerous is it? They find their answer in scientific doses; not dangerous…despite the fact that half the birds and butterflies have shown deformity! Man is blind!

Mr Rolf Sievert made a grievous error; he assumed the chance of getting cancer was based on joules of energy per kilogram of tissue.

    • We Not They Finally

Any fiction about safe dosage is deceptive, since it is all CUMULATIVE and repetitive. It's appalling that the public does not even understand the basics.

      • CodeShutdown CodeShutdown

right you are, We Not They, about the appalling understanding of the public…even worse is the science which sets the standards. Perhaps the biggest scientific blunder of all time.

        The difficulty lies in the concept of radiation dose. It seems so simple and straightforward. But since the health effect can go from nothing to deadly for the same radiation dose, that easy concept has to be thrown out (at least in the low dose regime). But we have gone over it many times and now everyone knows that;

"The world and our bodies have always been radioactive but only nuclear fallout has caused gargantuanism, deformity and mental retardation"

    • Yep, the liars that be, continuously refer to "delivered energy" as the only possible problem.

  • 😐

In the end it's all about the DNA.

The Nuclear Apologists will someday say "It's regrettable", but they will still be guilty of the most horrendous insidious crime of all time.

If plants have DNA damage and insects have DNA damage and birds have DNA damage, then guess what? A 'chain' is only as good as it's weakest link.

  • ISeePinkClouds

"Initially, interception on plant leaves of dry deposition and atmospheric washout with precipitation were the main mechanisms by which vegetation became contaminated. In the medium and long term, root uptake predominated."

…during the short initial phase those of iodine were the most important with regard to human exposure via agricultural food chains. In the longer term, radio-caesium has been the most important (and, to a much lesser extent, radio-strontium).

Compared with radiocaesium, the uptake of 90Sr by plants has usually not shown such a marked decrease with time.

Growth and development problems were observed in plants growing in fields with contamination densities of 0.1–2.6 GBq/m2
and with estimated dose rates initially received by plants reaching 300 mGy/d. Spot necroses on leaves, withered tips of leaves and inhibition of photosynthesis, transpiration and metabolite synthesis were detected, as well as an increased incidence of chromosome aberrations in meristem cells.

    All hope is lost,

So leave me with the ghosts of my great acquaintances so I can apologize for my part in ignoring the writing on the wall. And punish me for attempting to change the fate that always was!
That is my personal reality. My own personal hell.
I wake up clinging to the idea my email box will have a single reason to keep these unanswered prayers alive.

This nuclear duplicity, implosions and explosions on genetics, the gargantuanism, and the lies. The lies we will prevail and overcome these obstacles; our cursed vessels riding against a tide of impossibility.
I used to just be sorry, now with every passing day, and failure as it falls. I'm simply beginning to feel sorry that I tried.
I know we all are, because even my best friend won't answer me. He too hath given up, and I take him as a stronger man than myself.

Eventually he will be talking to my ghost and I along with my words will be long forgotten, amongst everything else that didn't matter in life, the day we decided to overlook it.

That is exactly how nuclear power works. The goals will never overcome the truth. No matter how hard we try.
I'm already wagering my life on this admission. I've nothing left to lose.

OT. Yes. Tacomagroove. Ty. I do not recall you being as you are now. Could both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation be affecting your emotions?

Different biological effects are observed for different types of non-ionizing radiation.[2][3][4] A difficulty is that there is no controversy that the upper frequencies of non-ionizing radiation near these energies (much of the spectrum of UV light and some visible light) is capable of non-thermal biological damage, similar to ionizing radiation. Health debate therefore centers on the non-thermal effects of radiation of much lower frequencies (microwave, millimeter and radiowave radiation). The International Agency for Research on Cancer recently stated that there could be some risk from non-ionizing radiation to humans.[5]

You could find a clean, quiet place, away from radiation sources, where you could set aside some time to be calm, contemplative,or meditative. In that time and place, you can experience clear thinking, and physical ease. You may even have mental visions of the future, and find that you still have a happy destiny.

This experiment works for me; even if I just feel better afterward.

      • "Could both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation be affecting your emotions?"

Microwave radiation (non ionizing radiation) was classed as a 2B carcinogen by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2011. A lot of independent scientists felt it should have been classed as a 2A carcinogen. It has lots of serious health effects besides causing cancer.

We should be winding back the WiFi infrastructure not expanding it!

No Government or health organisation will say that it is safe for children. A recently published statistic indicated that the incidence of brain tumours in under twenties was 4 to 8 time higher than the rest of the population.

This is going to be a major health catastrophe like smoking and asbestos.

Denial, denial, by the industry until the numbers of people getting sick and dying can't be hidden any more! Then it's to late for those who are already affected

Here is a WiFi Safety Guide. It has informative video links and a list of free practical things people can do, to reduce your family's exposer to WiFi radiation, on page two.

                  Hi aunavoz,

(Another OT, but things will settle now, if the forums are back working, T/y Admin 🙂

Your words took me back. It is not necessary to recite the background, suffice it to say that the woman in question was cut off from all means of support and sleeping in a laundry measuring 6 foot by five. Though not a prisoner and having freedom to move outside, without money the prospects did not look good.

I asked her – "what keeps you going?"
She replied – "I look at the sky, I look at the trees and think – no one can take these away from me".

              • When in doubt Smoke it out!… There is a reason the evil in this world are scared shitless of Weed. You don't suck at life as long as you keep the powder dry and the rifle oiled! Try not to see a test as a failure. Try to feel the path through… Step carefully and move up. Evil men have worked for years to fashion and fit you with that coat of despair… And you can toss it into the garbage in an instant if you want.

Some people genes are much susceptible to substance abuse than others. Why do you think California didn't vote to legalize marijuana? Because they have seen so many people ruined by substance abuse. You can see from the tragedy of the lives of others the necessity to avoid following in their footsteps.

Then there is the idea of being your Brother's Keeper. If your abstinence helps another person, then according to one idea of morality, you are required to be abstinent and to set a good example.

You can learn from other people's mistakes. You don't have to experience them first hand. The experience requirement is just a snake oil salesman's sales pitch. If you take marijuana, then you can never experience never having used it.

I'd hoped to have had a better outcome in life when I travelled to Colorado. Now I'm more confused by life and death in its entirety.
I still value the trip, and consider you a kind person that I'm thankful for having taken me in. As I still owe you a rematch in chess.
Someday maybe we can make this a reality.
I'm sorry my battery is nearly dead and I must be going now.
Hopefully tomorrow will be an easier day.

    nuclear science is infallibabble

Man; smart enough to design nuclear plants that can poison the world, dumb enough to build them, stupid enough to say they dont hurt anything when they blow, and criminally insane enough to keep building them

    thus the earth was lost

ALERT! Exelon Mystic Power Plant evacuated …4 miles from Boston…oil and natural gas. Boom! Developing story less than an hour old.

If you have been following the escalation of landfill and junkyard fires, et al…you may understand a possible relationship between them and the increase in methane/H2S… disassociation of millions of tons of clathrate off the Eastern seaboard.

The living cell, an amazing construction featuring a multi-purpose 'wall' enclosing among other things an ongoing symphony of life's chemical processes and a billions of atoms intricate mind-bogglingly amazing blueprint for the amalgamated-cells-as-lifeform – cabbage, butterfly. person – lives in a universe which offers some propitious circumstances, and many dangers.

For life on earth the circumstance was on the whole propitious for life to evolve, and despite catastrophes global and local, oftentimes to flourish. What was not seriously undermined, even if death by disaster claimed vast numbers, was the capacity to tend to reproduce well, accurately: to reproduce a viable blueprint and pass on the 'miraculous' blueprint.

The nuclear era, in conjunction with 'living better with chemistry' – including hormone mimicking materials, and brute force attacks on life via pesticides – , and of late in conjunction with the recent ubiquity of all manner of human-created electromagnetic fields, damages life's ability to generally maintain reproductive excellence.

Reason, human intelligence, human ingenuity, has vast potential to create both good and evil, but operates in a cultural circumstance which includes top generals urging JFK to in effect blow up the planet – his response, paraphrased, was 'these a-holes are f…..g insane'. And so they killed him.

At this late hour we need to get our act together.

Intelligent forthright discourse has until very recently been just about extinct at the higher political levels globally, which is another way of saying that the con artist has flourished. However there are signs that the public is now attracted to forthrightness.

Putin in Russia has gained enormous support and respect in Russia for his leadership decisions; but also, and not just in Russia, for his capacity to engage in precise and yet trenchant and forthright spontaneous discourse.

The Trump phenomenon in the States is to some extent based on Trump's willingness to engage issues in a forthright manner. And even though many times his utterances are not well informed or well considered, there is still the sense that he is almost an alien to American politics because there is an authenticity to him.

Given the nuclear bomb and power plant threat to earth, the political domination of con artistry, of political bs bought and paid for, has to end. If informed forthrightness becomes fashionable, that does improve our chances, imo.

Another related phenomenon is the 'whistleblower' – Snowden say. If it becomes more fashionable and even laudable to drag skeletons out of the closet that can help.

Another related phenomenon is the growing use of camera phones etc to be 'forthright' – record what actually happened.

        Reasons for hope?

Even robots get killed by too much radiation. They've had them die at Fukushima. And space launches have had their electronics fried from too much radiation. It is difficult avoiding the radiation in the Van Allen belts.

A Carrington Event from a CME, coronal mass ejection, will knock out all the satellites, and all the electronics and the grid for years.

And if they don't stop all the nuclear technology, even solar power will be no longer possible.

And CERN and HAARP are also weakening the electromagnetic shield around the earth which protects against cosmic rays. Physics experiments need to think about biological consequences because the biosphere is rapidly being destroyed.

        • Dr. Anne Lee Tomlinson Maziar PraisingJesus

The fuels they use for space flights are a biological nightmare. And ever time they slice through the atmosphere it creates a damage that cannot be ever be repaired.

Nuclear energy is creating acid rain, the whole nuclear fuel cycle is very fossil fuel intensive. And a Carrington Event will cause all the nuclear reactors to melt down. The melting ice is raising all the oceans and will cause meltdowns to all the nuclear power plants on waterways. The Krypton-85 causes more and more intensive storns which can also knock out a nuclear reactor and cause a meltdown.

When the ice has melted at the poles, there will be no way to stop huge temperature spikes which will fry a lot of people near or in desert regions.

Wake up earth. Shut them all down immediately.

        • A coronal mass ejection of X25 would destroy solar panels instantly and set off reactor catastrophes all over the impacted regions. Seeing pretty green colours in the sky is not a good omen.

A CME is prophesied in the Revelation of Saint John the Divine, where an Angel throws the sun at earth.

The revelation of Saint John the Divine

Christ never taught that you are saved by doing nothing. The religion of corporation and destroyer of earth does.

I have some homework for you, what is a tesseract and what implication has it in atomic discovery? This could help clean up their mess. A tesseract field containment generator. opps that technology hasn't been invented YET!

          • Do not agree. What test can you point to that confirms your claim that an EMP pulse would 'destroy' a solar panel?

EMP pulses may destroy electronics ATTACHED to a solar panel, but it is doubtful that the actual panel itself would be affected.

Please provide evidence of your claim, studies, links, etc…

            Peace out

            • Other worries are much bigger short term; like surges and lightning strikes that take out other components.

            • Dr G, solar panels are electronic circuits in their own right, as such they would be severely damaged in an X25 solar flare. Remember the shield is weakening thus magnifying the potential for damage. They would fry like chippies in a chip pan. The difference being that they would not China syndrome and kill us all. Solar panels would be a fantastic recovery option FROM a CME. Although getting production back up would be a tribulation.

Stop atomic power production before you kill us all. I say.

              • Do you have a link to a test that you saw an EMP pulse fry a solar panel?

If you stick a solar panel in the sun, and don't connect wires to it, it will NOT overload. It just sits there.

If you stick a solar panel into an EMP pulse, my prediction is that the same thing will happen; it sit there.

Electronics behind it, not so much. Better have a faraday cage for those.

                • Dr G.

I was not speaking about electromagnetic pulses, I was speaking of coronal mass ejections that have much more potential to damage silicon based solar panel circuit arrays.

Where a nuclear EMP or small CME would only damage electronics over a region, a powerful CME would affect the entire planet. It would require a solar event of unprecedented magnitude to wipe out the electrical systems across the planet. But even a modest CME could demonstrate how vulnerable we are to the sun's magnetic temper tantrums.

An EMP attack, say from the Nika 4 weapon would destroy panels; because it is so powerful that it would pulse energy even through polycaps or other protection diode or fuse type protections.

Not a good idea to play captain bighead with superior Russian miniaturised plane weapons.

The revelation from the Bile that offended PJ clearly refers to a CME of a magnitude of Armageddon proportions, so powerful it would burn the skin of people.

I looked way back and there were structures built that made no sense and made from couple of flat rocks on end with another on top. Like a makeshift shelter of sorts dotting landscapes.

Now maybe they were built to keep one from the rain or large hailstones. Maybe they were built to protect one from falling arrows raining from the sky during atacks.

Or maybe they were built to shield the inhabitants from incoming X Class Solar Flares. The structures were not large and could only protect a few people. Some religions of the past also practiced their manmade faith underground.

It is much cheaper to replace solar panels than a nuclear power plant. And no one will be killed by solar panels going out. And the land won't be made uninhabitable for a million years.

Nuclear power plants contaminate so much water everyday it is truly insanity to allow their existence. Every time the fuel is changed massive amounts of radiation is spewed into the air, and no one is warned. And when the fuel is changed, there is no electricity generated. So much for dependability. Nuclear is dependable at all, expect for all the life destroyed.

There seems to be a whole can of worms developing from this solar panel uptick, and yes, it is the correct way to go, and but, there are going to be a few burps along the way.

Simply any energy company that creates electricity must like any other company create the energy and then sell that energy created to those that are purchasing it at a profit. Hopefully at minimum profit, since it is part of the Zeitgeist Matrix beast created by our controlled by other's collective.

So in essence the energy rates in California have gone up and not down and we are the biggest state using solar panels in this new green energy quest.

The utility has saved a bundle of money by having private and corporate interests invest their own money in the generation of power via green technologies by purchasing wind, solar, wave, etc., Now the company has not had to invest in creating it's own energy and investing it's own money in this new generation of green energy which is saving them billions in generation costs.

Which is their companies sole responsibility in selling the power to the people. So the people are front loading the cost of generating their own electricity for the utility and the utility is only transporting it through transmission lines.

Solar panels only last 30 years and then the system repeats while the whole time the utility is not expanding it's personal expense for power generation. Win, win, for them.

Yet the utility rates continue to go up..not down…

Like the sun, the use of solar is rising

Installing solar panels on your roof is not just for tree-hugging environmentalists. The increasing ease of the process and the financial returns have made going solar practically mainstream.

"By the end of 2020, the amount of installed solar capacity will be 300 percent higher than today," said Dan Whitten, vice president of communications at the Solar Energy Industries Association. "Nationwide, it grew 10 times between 2008 and 2015."

"From a money perspective alone, I don't know why everyone in D.C. doesn't have panels," said Washington resident Neha Bhatt. "Financially, solar roofs are becoming a no-brainer, even if you're not trying to 'save the environment.'"

                    • Jebus Jebus

The key to investing in solar, is to have your own panels, storage, and to fight for fair generation credits if you want to put back into the grid at peak…

                    • obewanspeaks obewanspeaks

All that you mention costs hard cash money and that is the front load for/to the utility energy generation process.

Not sure that is a is however a personal and/or business investment of capital that the utility did not have to make.

                    • Jebus Jebus

But if you are being given peak excess generation credits for use when you are off peak, you are being compensated for your investment and over time, as any good investment, it pays for itself.

NWO = Old World Order enhanced by modern technology = Pathological oligarchical/elite sovereignty system attempting global control.

Fundament is to replace national sovereignty with oligarchic and technocratic transnational sovereignty, thus destroying democratic aspirations and institutions, and decentralized and diverse people power.

Nuclear reactors provide superficially plausible'justification' for distant overarching power, and elite technocratic dominance.

Controlling Germany and destroying rebirth of German sovereignty is one key to NWO.

Note that it was Germany that repudiated nuclear; it is Germany that has accentuated the attempt at renewables; Germany where major journalist recently disclosed that German journalism was a CIA tool; German political sovereignty and technological and organizational competence in conjunction with Russian resources, military might, and enduring aspirations for sovereignty, are a basic threat to hegemonic ambitions of Anglo-zionist-dominated global oligarchy. Flood of migrants into Germany not going over well with German people.

Side note: Article "Dana Durnford's Post-Fukushima Odyssey" was at the time of publishing immediately translated into German by German author.

regarding the VT radiation numbers, has anyone verified the validity of these increases? We know that the radiation count is only meaningful relative to the detector. The author bases the normal level on an add for the Digilert 100 Handheld Radiation Detector. It is important to know if the radiation is REALLY 200 to 1000 times more than normal or not. If not, that is big disinfo

      • Cisco Cisco

Code, with all due respect, you're missing the significance of Bob Nichols' reporting. We can debate whether his counts are higher than other reporting sources or his method of measurement is not consistent with your data or point of view; but, the progression of the counts has increased 2 to 3 times than what is was a year ago. As per his gamma and beta counts at official US monitoring sites, the increasing radioactive values are the BIG story; and, the glaring fact we are being irradiated 2-3 times more than last year, and so is…everything we breath, drink and eat. ):

            Here's a totaly unscientific observation.

I have had two GMC products sitting in the same windowsill for five years now. Two different tubes, two different sensitivities. Sometimes the window is open, sometimes it's not. Sometimes it in the sunshine, sometimes it's not.

They always average 25 +- cpm's when the window is colsed and no sunshine.

The lower sensitivy tube never goes above 50 cpm no matter how the variables change

The higher sensitivity GM tube goes up to 100 cpm in the sunshine with the window closed.

The same tube goes up to 250 cpm sometimes in the sunshine with the window open.

The same tube higher sensitivity sometimes shoots to 800 + cpm, has hit 100 +, with no sunshine and the window open.

The same tube has awoken me in the middle of the night, with the window open, counting above the preset limit for the alarm…

I have posted some of these results previously.

    • Cisco, Vet today, aka Bob Nichols is intentionally misreporting radiation levels.

It might increase awareness, but the flimsy straw man, fear porn, that it produces works against the movement.

      • oldster

Stock, you may be right, but consider this: Let us assume that we are all susceptible to breathing in dust particles that include radioactive materials, say various plutoniums and their offspring. Now, stating this, I can't muster self-anger enough to flagellate myself appropriately for generating fear porn: the point seems worthy of note.

Now does this possibility, or various other combos of materials that include artificial radioactivity – say DU dust, which is officially accorded the status of posing small danger – show up in the typical geiger counter survey of the immediate environment?

So, might we accord the status of nuclear-friendly extreme understatement to typical background readings?

And might we accord the status of appropriate metaphor for actual contemporary danger to Nichol's high readings? Just asking.

        • CodeShutdown CodeShutdown

oldster, but if you point someone to Nicholes info, they will dismiss you as a nut. If there is extremely potent fallout which isnt measured, isnt it better to say there is extremely potent fallout which isnt measured? Or, the fallout is obscured by background levels but it kills because its inherently millions of times more lethal?

          • oldster

I don't know which is better. I don't agree that someone who points out Nichol's numbers will necessarily be assumed to be a nut.

In a normal conversation re radiation exposure, I think it is preferable to point out that typical geiger measurements are of interest, but rudimentary, partial, and may be wildly misleading. That's not fear pron, imo.

In Nichol's case, the high readings are in his words real, derived from actual measurement. and he has described these high numbers as sometimes partial and thus sometimes lower than actual. But by using different technologies to arrive at 'normal' as opposed to the 'fear porn' numbers, he is open to the accusation, as per Stock, that he is misleading the audience.

Again, as to whether Nichols does more harm than good, I don't know. The nuclear industry and military has inundated us with 'background radiation is not much of a problem.' Nichols is saying 'there's one hell of a lot more background than we are being told'. In his case, I would prefer full disclosure.

            • CodeShutdown CodeShutdown

oldster, Nichols is saying the radiation is 200 times the normal background. Are we to believe that the dose has gone up from 6 millisieverts to over a thousand millisieverts per year?

Being a common fool, I immediately wondered where he got the normal standard…and he links to an advertisement for a hand held detector. Wont other common fools do the same and then come back and tell you 'oldster, dont believe everything you read on the internet'? This can be bad when its a spouse! They'll be rolling their eyeballs and gagging you around friends…

              • oldster

Code, with all due respect, if indeed you are a common fool, which is a description of you I have scant evidence for, then you are an uncommonly insightfool and delightfool common fool, which I think, (but who am I to think, fool that I am?) elevates you to an elite fool status.

Nuclear info war has aggregated over the past year to make for the first time a majority of Americans anti-nuclear. So out of all the bits and pieces there are indications of a sane general impetus, not constipation or backsliding. I think it was nuclear hot seat host – I stand to be corrected, who deemed Dana a detriment to the 'anti-nuclear movement', because he advocated some variation on the theme of walking the plank for those who prominently dissemble on matters nuclear.

Now Bob Nichols's high weekly radiation counts are being deemed by Stock to be a detriment to 'the anti-nuclear movement'.

I think Dr. G had it right on this one: to paraphrase, different strokes for different folks. Let us make the anti-nuclear umbrella big, inclusive, and developing.

I don't vouch for the presentation nor interpretation. "Times Normal" varies widely with altitude and soil, for starters, and I think he's comparing what's normal on some Geiger Counters with what's measured on very sensitive government detectors.

I consider the data gaps the most suspect for times of unusual spiking (all of which he misses by just focussing on the visible (data shared) spikes. That the spikes are going up can be seen all over, also in Europe on EURDEP. But there too: it's a gross exaggeration, in my view, to compare spike heights and then compare that to normal averages and then frame the difference as "x times normal". I've long stopped looking at his stuff. Just like EnviroReporter, who measured nothing when the clouds were actually hitting, and then gets all alarmist from rain events and potassium-rich seaweeds before having it lab tested (and so on).

A risk factor is any attribute, characteristic or exposure of an individual that increases the likelihood of developing a disease or injury. Nichols uses 5 to 20 CPM as the normal reference and then says background levels have gone up 200 times. IF Nichols is using that same referenced geiger counter, then there is validity, if not then its disinformation. I wondered, did anybody check it out, ask him or anything?

The other point I think, was that we could disregard that disinfo (IF it is) and just take the last few years of data and assume they are from the same machines. That has some validity to it, but the credibility factor is reduced by posting the 200x (20,000% in ENEnews units) increase.

I dont personally know what the valid measurements are. It was deflating to realize CPM has no standard…its like measuring Marylin Monroe or Tyson Chandler with an elastic tape measure that can stretch 10x its length.

Do I make sense? DO you disagree?

How does skewed data look when its on the other side?:

          • Agreed Code; we are talking about the same thing.

Same detector, same location, same calibration, and look at it over time to see what difference is.

Of course, just using one reading from one location can greatly skew readings or background up or down, agreed?

There are plenty of citizen scientist radiation networks up and running.. It should not be hard to compare starting after 2013, but it may be harder going back before 2011.

This is an email from Nichols to me.

            Mr. S****,

Readings differ as to type of monitor and the percentage of the radiation that is actually detected. There is considerable variance among monitors, especially in Sensitivity.

The sources are publicly available to all and are listed in the first three footnotes in the section Sources and Notes. Just Page Down or Search for Notes and Sources.

I use EPA staffed and maintained monitors that run 24/7/365. Everybody can see the records, everybody with access to a computer can look the readings up.

Write me again should you want more info.

I've noted your op-ed at several web sites and most recently on wherein you report your CPM readings.

These readings seem to be quite high and was wondering what type of device you are using for these findings? You report in the thousands of CPM's which is contrary to my detector which…

True background radiation should not be increasing unless there is an influx of cosmic rays or something. We know that increases from anthropogenic sources cant be compared to the background because the elements and forms are different. So whoever says background is increasing is misleading. They should say nuclear fallout or leaks have increased the measured levels.

Again, you cant tell the toxicity by the becquerels or sieverts! That could be off 100s or 1000s of times. Some radiation should be decreasing, for example the bomb test era fallout and radiation from several Fukushima isotopes. To make a blanket statement that background is KNOWN and PROVEN to be INCREASING is just disinfo in my opinion

          • Agree with your distinction, but the pro nuclear folks use the 'normal background' as a starting point in discussion, even when what they are pointing at is in part caused by man made emissions, accidents, etc.

So the distinction is worth pointing at to get to agreed terminology.

But even that leads to problems, since no one measured background before the age of fission, and all 'background' radiation levels thrown around these days by the 'experts' include all of the man made radiation amounts, with NO distinction for the differences.

There does not seem to be ANY interest in figuring out what the TRUE background levels of various radioactive isotopes were before the nuclear age, using a wide variety of means that are available.

People lose all there sense and sensibility in the initial 'gassing'?

"In the study, published in the current issue of PLOS ONE, Meloni, and Marc J. Kaufman, PhD, director of the McLean Hospital Translational Imaging Laboratory, examined whether a low concentration of xenon gas could interfere with a process called reconsolidation—a state in which reactivated memories become susceptible to modification. “We know from previous research that each time an emotional memory is recalled, the brain actually restores it as if it were a new memory. With this knowledge, we decided to see whether we could alter the process by introducing xenon gas immediately after a fear memory was reactivated,” explained Meloni.

The investigators used an animal model of PTSD called fear-conditioning to train rats to be afraid of environmental cues that were paired with brief footshocks. Reactivating the fearful memory was done by exposing the rats to those same cues and measuring their freezing response as a readout of fear. “We found that a single exposure to the gas, which is known to block NMDA receptors involved in memory formation in the brain, dramatically and persistently reduced fear responses for up to 2 weeks. It was as though the animals no longer remembered to be afraid of those cues”, said Dr. Meloni."

Thus rapidly developing cell systems, such as meristems of plants and insect larvae, were predominantly affected by radiation. At the organism level, young plants and animals were found to be the most sensitive to the acute effects of radiation.

…chronic exposure to radionuclides will result in genetic damage (i.e., single and double strand breaks in DNA) and increased mutation rates (e.g., single nucleotide polymorphism, deletions, insertions, etc.) in both somatic and germ cell lines within individuals.

Ionizing radiation that consists of α,β and γ rays can directly damage DNA and other molecules and as such result in somatic or germline mutations.

Both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation can damage organisms, although only ions produced by ionizing radiation can directly damage DNA and other molecules.

Mutations are a cause of altered DNA sequences that may have negative effects on gene function and hence development of normal morphology.

    Anyone else noticing this?

I have found that while working outside when there is moisture in the air (melting snow in above freezing temps) just a half hour of hard work caused severe sore throat and sudden loss of all energy flu-like symptoms without a fever. Foggy days and rain-mist days cause similar symptoms. I know many people that have been getting the same symptoms at the same times (during rain snow melts etc.). I have the luxury to choose when I go outside so I don't get "sick" as often as others. I have been observing this since 2011, when in August I spent the day running errands etc. and it was a mist rain all day. I used an umbrella but that is useless. At the end of the day at a Ministry concert all of a sudden it was like somebody pulled the plug on me. Of course when I suggest radiation people think I'm crazy.

            • If you have uncontrolled coughing fits and are NOT allergic to black pepper, try this …. place 2 black peppercorns under the tongue, leave them there to leach out, do not swallow. The coughing fits can decrease substantially. Dispose or replace after about 1.5 hours or with relief.

An Indian sage taught me that. 😉

    • MVB MVB

heard this from MANY people (in both SOuthern Colorado and Belgium); some were miserable for over a month. Symptoms were flu-like, but lingered on unusually long. (Hasn't affected me, though. And all winter I've literally slept outside in a tent / under a tarp.)

    • Everyone inhaled a lot of hot particles and tons of xenon gas, which turns into cesium. Since no one measured, and no one tracked, who knows what effects it will have and how many will be affected?

Could get a much better idea if someone where to do post mortem radiation tests on tissue; lungs, liver, heart, etc. But no one is doing that either.

Oh well, nothing to see here

      Move on

Close to four-fifths of Delhi is living in unsafe radiation zones.

This situation has come about because the authorities allowed illegal cell towers to mushroom all over Delhi, by not doing a thing about it..

Forty of the 100 spots surveyed in Delhi have extreme anomaly in radiation levels. These are high risk zones, where the EMR was up to seven times or more than the safe limit. At times, the readings were so high that the instrument used to measure them stopped doing so. Thirty-one spots were unsafe zone and nine were borderline. Only 20 spots were within the safe limits.

do you still eat any wild mushrooms if you did? I didn't for a few years but no have a mycology bug and ate some fine oyster mushrooms I found on a tree in PNW, land of chemtrails///I mean we're all gonna die, I did give up seafood, save a can every couple months of Norway Sardines. Any one else in the PNW on south (west Coast) have major qualms about an occasional mushroom sortie? Morels, Chanterelles, etc…I guess it is in everything, but don't mushrooms concentrate isotopes? meat does cows eating grass irradiated…scary shit.

      • ISeePinkClouds

Yes. skizexq. Ty. I understand. It is hard to give up things we love. It is a well known fact, and I can give you examples if needed, but clearly mushrooms absorb, and accumulate radiation. Actually by thousands of times. You should know this. The children in the fallout region of Chernobyl ate wild berries, and mushrooms, had extremely high levels of contamination in their bodies, and could not recover from exposure,as long as they continued to eat the mushrooms and berries.

Fish are off the table too. Ocean currents circle the planet.

"The results of post-accident environmental monitoring indicate that the most affected countries were Belarus, the Russian Federation and Ukraine. Much of the information on doses from the Chernobyl accident relates to these countries. There were four main mechanisms for delivering radiation dose to the public: external dose from cloud passage, internal dose from inhalation of the cloud and resuspended material, external dose from radioactive material deposited on soil and other surfaces, and internal dose from the ingestion of food products and water. Except for unusual circumstances, the latter two pathways were the more important."
