Excerpts from a column by Robert Cringely (Cringely is a best-selling author and his work has appeared in The New York Times, Newsweek, and Forbes. He wrote in 2009 that “there is a place for nuclear power in our energy future”.), Feb 17, 2017 (emphasis added):

  • Here’s why I am writing about this subject and why you should take me seriously. Back in 1979 I was hired by the White House to help investigate the nuclear accident at Three Mile Island. My friend Robert Bishop, whom I consulted for this column, was the only American at Chernobyl.
  • I wrote… that the [Fukushima] accident was far worse than the public was being told and that it would take many decades — if ever — for the site to recover.
  • Well it’s six years later and, if anything, the Fukushima situation is even worse. Far from being over, the nuclear meltdown is continuing, the public health nightmare increasing. Why aren’t we reading about this everywhere?
  • The most recent evidence… means is there’s a puddle of molten uranium that has melted its way through the steel pressure vessel, through the reinforced concrete containment, through the reinforced concrete foundation of the nuclear facility, and is now working its way through whatever rock or soil lies underneath the foundation, dropping lower each day… If the molten uranium hits an underground aquifer, such a spread could get even worse.
  • There is no solution… but there are a few things that can be done to mitigate this crisis, with the main one being what’s being called an ice wall… The point of the ice wall is to contain the poison while also minimizing incursion of water. Starve the puddle of water, the idea goes, and just let the uranium do its thing… water is bad because the uranium’s heat will turn it into hydrogen and oxygen which will then explode. Why worry about such subterranean explosions? Think of it as fracking. Just as fracking uses explosions to release trapped natural gas, Fukushima-style fracking will fill the fractured rocks and their entrapped water with radioactivity. Here’s the important bit: These new radiation numbers show the uranium puddle is on the move, downward — ever downward. To be even minimally effective the ice wall has to go preferably deeper than the puddle. While the ice wall technique has been well publicized, its required depth hasn’t been. I’ll guarantee you right here that the ice wall doesn’t go deeper — not even close — because that would cost more than the Japanese utility and government are willing to pay. I’ll also guarantee you that 99.9 percent of the Japanese population doesn’t understand this danger.

      This is the worst case scenario, in some ways worse than another earthquake hitting the plant. It has the potential to make the entire curium and possibly a great deal of the spent fuel go up, vaporized, all at once.

        The explosions may be small now, but there is potential for a larger explosion.

        Nuckelchen documented steam issuing from cracks in the ground, all around the reactors, in 2012 or 2013. That was when the every nighttime light shows began, with aurora-like colors.

    I dont buy this story. The high radiation recently measured is not an increase (that this author says proves the corium is going deeper) but was that radioactive since the beginning. It proves only that they pointed their camera on some corium splattered on the pedestal wall. The rest of the article is a non sequitur. IF the corium burned through the concrete to earth its ALREADY in the aquifer. And anyway, a good deal of that aquifer is flowing through the broken reactor buildings. I call BS on this one

      @ Code – Howdy, hope life's treating you well. — You know, I used to rant along the same lines, of "ongoing fissioning", and such. And I still think it ought to be considered a possibility.

      Yet the bottom line, when truly applying scientific method to the fullest extent is that WE DON'T KNOW. We can trust or distrust data sources, we can trace jet stream patterns and often find correlations, we can speculate,… but we don't know. Well, I don't.

      There's a few things that leave room for 'the possibility' of a full-on CHina Syndrome-type meltout, though, certainly even without "physically impossible" ongoing fission flareups, I think.

        Now, I agree that the author of the top story doesn't exactly provide the data and logic to come to his conclusions of a full-on Uranium blob melting down, BUT…

        My thought drifts to things like… WHERE have the radioactive clouds been coming from? Several times they contained Cobalt-60 in highly unusual ratio to Cs-137. I even found that in a kelp from southern Hokkaido that I sent to a lab in 2013 myself. The fallout event of spring 2016 had Co60 in its tail too. The winter 2016-1017 was a very data-gapped puzzle with some Te132 in early December and I-131 upticks in late January. Still an unsolved mystery…

        We don't know. Yet the possibility is real. Stating the suspected as quasi-fact, as I've done as well, may not be the best approach, but dismissing it off-hand… pretty sure that's not going to get us closer to the truth either.

          @MVB, I've been following your blog with interest because I think Daiichi is still responsible for radioactive clouds circling the globe. I've noticed that when I see increases in the spark counts recorded on the Tepcams, a couple weeks later, you're seeing spikes and gaps in the radiation readings you track. Spark counts of twenty or more per hour have followed major events like the r3 crane removal from the sfp, the r1 panel removal, or the csfp steaming after earthquakes. I don't count all of the sparks that are happening but I notice when the rate increases and try to get some hourly counts posted. I look to your observations and see a correlation to the peak spark activity I've been tracking. I appreciate your sharing the work and effort you've put in. Even if we have trouble drawing a straight line of proof we're still connecting dots that make the nuc industry nervous we could call them out on more of their lies.

        MVB, thanks for wandering in and sharing your excellent work. Your point is well taken; we dont know the exact status of the fuel, where it is exactly, and how much if any fission is occurring.
        One note about the muon scan in your first link. Shouldnt we be seeing a full spent fuel pool and all kinds of gear and structural elements of various sorts or is that just an artists rendition of what they expected it to look like?

            MVB, assuming there are ongoing periods of fidiom occurring, would we expect to find Krypton-85 releases as well as I131?

            A few days after seeing high counts here, I often see the development of thunderstorm cells in my area. They do not have a well defined cloud system. Rather, they are more like amorphous blobs of clouds. Smudgy looking, dark, and I'll-defined. And often they occur at much lower altitude than one might expect for a thundercloud storm cell.

            What do you think? Would anyone care to chime in here?

              HoTaters…did you read Wilhelm Reichs Oranur experiments? New age types wont understand it. Scientists will dismiss it without further consideration. Reich observed dark, low lying, shapeless clouds, associated them with a negative effect from uranium on 'live energy', noted an emotional malaise, a dying of trees from the top down, an accumulation of black and brown dusty substances that seemed to eat away at rocks and bricks. All of these observations may have an explanation fitting in with currently known, accepted scientific principles. I have seen low lying dark clouds and dont believe they are at all 'colored' with a pollutant. Rather it must be the angle of the sun, the density perhaps of the cloud, the way light is refracted off certain size droplets.

              But there is one quite interesting observation that should be studied by the science community; very small amounts of nuclear radiation were able to somehow turn certain environments very toxic, as if they magnified the radioactive poison effect. Correa describes this to some extent at the site aetherometry and goes into specific wavelength cutoff points, an exploration of Tesla related 'substratums' of electricity etc. The full depth of that study would require a life time or more. Some things would be proven, others disproven. Yet the body of evidence is mounting. There is a broad, ubiquitous energy field, an aether not disproved by Michelson and Morley.               @ HoTaters – Yes, Kr-85 would be released as well, but given its much longer half-life (10.7 yrs), it's not easy to use it as an indicator of recent fission.

              It increases the electrical conductivity of air. It isn't understood how it might be affecting climate. Concentrations since the 1970s have more than doubled.

                Thanks, MVB, for that. So is it safe to assume we'll feel the atmospheric effects of the Krypton 85 releases from shortly after 3/11 for 4.7 years or so?

                Day-yum, we had some FREAK weather and thunderstorms that were just MONSTERS here in Northern California in April, 2011. Just freakish. Monstrous, gigantic storm cells.

                Have always been fascinated by the idea plumes may pass over us every 40 days. But how can we know what the effects of those plumes are, where they are concentrated, and account for any "dilution" factor, admixture of gasses/chemicals in the atmosphere, and the transformation of some isotopes into other ones, stable forms, over time?

        MVB, did you watch Nuckelchen's videos showing the steam vents around the plant, back in 2012-2013?

        IMO there is potential for this. Truly, video documentation or some other method of corroborating this story would be helpful.

        My area has had a lot of "blips" of radiation, much higher readings. It seems like waves of radiation pass over my area. I can watch NETC, for example, and see how plumes travel inland from coastal cities in Northern California.

        Petaluma is more or less due west of me. Readings are sometimes elevated there or in San Francisco, or Fairfield, to the southwest of me. Sometimes Sacramento, CA readings become elevated for a short period of time after that. This effect doesn't last long.

        I'm not an NETC member, so I cannot graph and do a time-series analysis.

        At any rate, my opinion is waves of radiation are still coming over, and Japan's reactors & Fukushima are the most likely culprits.

        The last time this was observed was the afternoon of Saturday, March 18.

        Readings are not as high as when spent fuel was said to be removed from the Reactor 4 SFP, but nonetheless much higher than the "new normal" average high readings.

Let me describe the Fukushima problem with the rigor of current scientific method; The scientific reason the corium is not in the containment is because the support structure is no longer holding it in place. The reason the structural support is no longer holding the corium is because it is no longer there. And the reason the structure is no longer there is because global warming did something to it. Anyone thinking otherwise is a fool, a denialist and a conspiracy theory kook. Any questions?

    in the case of unit three, the melt down was a hellish cauldron of white hot heavy metal super poison which melted and ripped off the surface of the metal containment and thoroughly melted the fuel, the cladding and the containment surface, which spewed out of the lid at jet engine speed, exploding the two pools and much of their contents into a fine powder smaller than your red blood cells. This corium was found all over the ground, in air filters in Tokyo and mixed with a kind of black mold which has a melanin that allows the stuff to feed directly off of nuclear radiation. This extremely fine powder was blown all the way around the globe in a wave which maxima was measured every 40 days or so, and rained down lethal hot particles, forever downgrading the health of all organisms on the planet, except the black mold. So theres some of the corium, and you can find it in your lungs

        for readers passing by, the yellow capsule is the reactor, the orange outline looking like a lightbulb shape is the containment. The outer building and the grey concrete is also considered the outmost containment. My view based on the computer modelling and the idea that there was likely water and concrete reactions which splattered the corium when it melted down out of the reactor, is that most of the corium is splattered around the containment and melted through the concrete sitting in the bottom, through the one inch wall of containment steel and a meter or so into the concrete base below. Blasted out joints and ports have allowed ground water to leach the corium into the ocean at 300 or 400 tons per day. The initial release included up to 100% of some of the volatile fission products…extremely radioactive, like cesium and iodine. The slower leaching takes away the less mobile fuel and fission products like uranium and strontium

        yes, each reactor failure is a little different. The bottomless bucket effect of unit two indicates a breach all the way through the bottom. But anyway, the water has been leaking in and flowing out all of the reactors, if I understand correctly. That means they are all out of containment, even if the bulk of corium sits inside the boundaries of the buildings. Its a distinct point. IF the cesspool has an unstoppable leak, what difference does it make in the long run if most of the shit is still in the pool?

            But after the USGS gamma spect results, I watched about 100 videos…yes indeed, airplanes did fly into those buildings.

            The plane that went down in Pa or whatever, a good friends daughter was on that plane. She was a physically and everything else beautiful person. He was never the same. I haven't told him it was murder.

              The WTC structure consisted of a strong spine of 44 columns with a rib cage on the outside of the building somewhat like a chain link fence.     I am at a loss because of very little knowledge of the mechanics of the actual fission going on at Fukushima. I sent 28 years in drilling and blasting for mining and construction. I believe the people in charge need to start thinking out of the box to contain the catastrophe or the situation will continue to deteriorate.I don't understand why an ice wall was used when HD sheet piling can be driven to great depths. Secondly if an electronic lens is made for a scintillator they can be very directional and pinpoint something releasing so much energy. If the corium is below the facility it can be triangulated giving the position and depth. If there is a metal that would alloy with the corium to dilute it to where it would cool off that could be finely ground and pumped in a slurry through a diagonal hole underneath the corium. If it can be cooled down and diluted enough to stop the fission robots could remove it.

We have seen a lot of fumes, and glowing ocean, and warming ocean, radiation monitors go crazy or register nothing for a while. All these things went barely noticed by few. Is there something, that can not be hidden from TV and telephone mesmerized public? Are so called "leaders" changing the policy, or the coriums may present their existence in a new frightening way?

    BEIJING–A top Chinese official's recent disclosure about how a nuclear disaster was averted after an earthquake nine years ago is a worrisome insight into Beijing's readiness to be upfront about its nuclear industry.

    Wang also pointed out the differences with the Fukushima nuclear accident and said, "Measures to deal with tsunami there were insufficient."
