Caldicott… received her medical degree in 1961 from the University of Adelaide Medical School. In 1977 she joined the staff of the Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston, and taught pediatrics at the Harvard Medical School from 1977 to 1978. […]

During her time in the United States from 1977 to 1986, Caldicott was involved with Physicians for Social Responsibility (founded originally in 1961), an organization of 23,000 doctors committed to educating others on the dangers of nuclear energy. She also worked abroad to establish similar groups […] One such international group (International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War) was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985 […]

  • I've been trying to assemble the official reports of the amount of radiation released in order that we can try and do some sort of health extrapolations.

I totally agree that the official releases VASTLY under-estimate the total quantity of radiation released for a variety of reasons including:

Estimates only include the first couple of months

Estimates refer to air OR water releases but rarely both

Estimates usually only refer to one radionuclide

However, even these artificially limited official reports are alarming.

So far in the US I think the study documenting 40,000 X background radio-xenon may be one of the most compelling examples of contamination.

Assembling the evidence is important for waking up people who may have some degree of influence

I know Agreenroad has also been assembling the data about releases in one place (i.e., one page), as well as Nuke is a 4 Letter word. Other places?

Please add other citations and relevant data and I'll add to my research…

  • Fraud by Constellation Energy $245M fine
One of the "Pro Nuke 100% all the time guys" who seems well intentioned, yet nevertheless lies, work at Ginna plant. He is convinced he is promoting safety, and convinced that a few people with good hearts can make nuke safe.

BTW This is "Mikey", the 100% Pro nuke that I speak of.

What the problem is though, is the whole system, the human species, the corruption, deception, lies and greed. And one or a handful of good people can't counteract the evil that can be perpetrated from the top and the whole system.

Feds rebuke ex-owner of Ginna plant
Constellation Energy withheld information, U.S. agency says

Federal regulators say Constellation Energy withheld key information when it sought approval for transfer of three nuclear power plants, including installations in Wayne and Oswego counties.

An investigation by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has determined that Baltimore-based Constellation “failed to provide complete and accurate information” about foreign control of electricity from the power plants and the financial arrangements of the transaction, the agency said in a letter released Tuesday.
Constellation had been seeking federal and state agency approvals to sell its nuclear plants and other assets to Exelon Corp. of Chicago. The $7.9 billion deal closed March 12.
The NRC gave its OK in February and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved…

stock@hawaii, that's the scary part. While there are sociopaths running much of the show, there are many levels of "well intentioned" people throughout the industry and the government and the public who are truly unable to see beyond their own self deception – not just in denying the dangers of nuclear energy and nuclear radiation, but, i imagine, in many other aspects of their lives. They are promoted into positions of power and leadership precisely because they DO NOT QUESTION. Their job is to rearrange and reshape facts until they fit the prevailing view. They see this as a service because they believe the general public is too untrained to think for themselves. It's called dissonant thinking. We don't know Mikey's fate or if he will wake up to reality and make a real difference and help to shut plants down, but, the most profound changes, as Margaret Mead suggested, are always brought about by a few people, that only they can because everyone else is simply not paying attention. All great deeds to bring about justice, fairness, community empowerment faced deep, seemingly immoveable opposition. Yet, change is brought about, sometimes violently, sometimes gradually, but, always and only from the heart.

REPOST FROM: March 30, 2012 at 5:51 pm

I should add another hidden costs of nuclear power to modern society: the socioeconomic costs.

As it's long-been treated as an intangible influence, the biological impact of nuclear technology over the development of children is rarely brought to the forefront. Setting aside premature deaths and long-term care for victims of radioactive contaminants, you'd likely find the costs running into billions of dollars annually, when you factor learning disabilities into the equation.

We know that fetal exposure to low-level radioactive toxins can effect the development of the brain, as well as impede the healthy development of other organs. This can lead to severe developmental challenges for children, often resulting in life-long failures in academic achievement. Ultimately, society has to step-in and bear the cost (in one form or another) of those who are unable to compete in the job market and achieve viable economic self-sufficiency.

Though there are many issues that can effect a child's academic abilities (learning environment, domestic and parental influences, diet, progenitor lineage, bio-chemical influences, etal), how radioactive toxins influence the early development of a biological life-form (in this case, a human) is little understood and bears greater scrutiny on all our parts…

Has anyone heard Helen Caldicott speak about the dust that emits Alpha radiation in Japan? Thanks.

    • @NoNukes …this might be the Caldicott alpha dust link you are looking for plus other plutonium info. a mighty thanks to AGreenRoad!,188.msg523.html#msg523

      • NoNukes NoNukes

Thanks, chemfood, your site is amazing! Caldicott is wonderful, isn't she?

She didn't mention the dust flying around on that video. I find it unnerving that no one is talking about it even though Enenews, Fukushima Diary and Ex-SKF have been reporting on it for months. The audio on my computer hasn't been working, so I keep hoping that someone else has heard a discussion. Just now, it suddenly did work, so I think that your site is magic! Thanks.

Scientist and Citizen Forum on Radiation Protection: Chernobyl in Fukushima
Citizen and a scientific forum on radiation entitled "From Chernobyl to Fukushima" will be held on 12 and 13 May 2012 in Geneva.
The true health consequences of Chernobyl have been concealed. And this concealment is repeated with Fukushima. The World Health Organization is contingent since 1959 at the International Agency of Atomic Energy, whose goal is the development of atomic energy, is directly involved in these cover-ups.

The "label" WHO health can no longer be a guarantee, it is up to civil society to take charge. IndependentWHO also decided to invite scientists independent of any conflict of interest for a real information is given on radiation protection of populations exposed to ionizing radiation.

Today would be a bad day for those still asleep, to wake up and smell the coffee. 🙁

  • Oahu, inside office, 4-3-12 AM
1380 clicks per hour, HEPA filter running.

This is the new Inspector which came in 2 days!!!!

Already sent my first inspector to Japanese family with 2 kids. We will try to translate the manual for them but at least give them the "radiation for dummies chart" check it out.

At the bottom of the post is the same chart in Japanese.

Just past the half way mark Dr. Caldicott makes note that most of the Leukemia & cancers found around Nuclear plants are as a result of Triated water. As you know this is not only commonly found in the air but it most off found in the water around these plants. She also mentions about the fog around these plants that is also loaded with Tritium. So consider what is being released around Fukushima. The irony is that each plant Must be a near a water source & they are frequently placed along the ocean.

And the Only thing that can contain Tritium is Gold. NASA using Tritium from bombs exploded Before 1969 is able to monitor its movement in the ocean 20 years later. It didn't dilute did it?

"At Three Mile Island it was decided to allow the tritium-contaminated water to evaporate, though that meant the tritium escaped as well." said Joonhong Ahn, a nuclear waste expert at UC Berkeley."

Another comment shortly after this is that she asked what happened when radiated food was discovered coming into the country. The reply, they dilute it with other food. 🙁
….The radiated food is as contaminated as it first was & it will still cause cancer. So even though countries have increased their allowable rate, even more contaminated food can & I am sure is still reaching consumers worldwide.

I wonder about all that expensive Kobe beef. I can only imagine the farmers who invested a great deal in the cattle will want/need money fro the sale of that beef, contaminated or not.

    • Radio VicFromOregon

Yes, many moons, an excellent point. It will be the little business people, farmers, ranchers, fishers and the food processing industry that buys from them that will push and support the suppression of testing. They stand to lose everything and will figure that since the big wigs who made this whole mess get off penalty free, why should they have to bear the burden and lose their livelihoods. It becomes very hard to be compassionate to faceless strangers that will buy your contaminated beef, rice or tea for the same price or higher than for uncontaminated products. And, if the testing isn't done or is ignored, who, then, is to say that the food is dangerous? And, once again, one of the great mechanisms of self over community prevails. And, they have a point, too. Who will help them in their financial woes? Certainly not the people who ran the nuclear power plant. Certainly not the government that supports the plant. Somehow, a compassionate movement to help these growers, farmers, ranchers, and the like needs to be created to support them in making safer choices for the rest of us.

    • many moons,
You can be sure they are highly irritated by now eating radiated foods for over a year, "glow in the dark !"
