New York Times, Nov. 5, 2014 (emphasis added):  To the shock of many cancer experts, the most common cancer in South Korea… is now thyroid cancer, whose incidence has increased fifteenfold in the past two decades. “A tsunami of thyroid cancer,” as one researcher puts it… Cancer experts agree that the reason for the situation in South Korea and elsewhere is not a real increase in the disease. Instead, it is down to screening… “It’s a warning to us in the U.S. that we need to be very careful in our advocacy of screening,” said Dr. Otis W. Brawley, chief medical officer at the American Cancer Society… some doctors, including Dr. Hyeong Sik Ahn of the College of Medicine at Korea University in Seoul, the first author of the new paper, have called for thyroid cancer screening to be banned… Thyroid experts in the United States are calling for restraint in diagnosing and treating tiny tumors… Dr. R. Michael Tuttle… said the best way… was to “stop the diagnosisdecrease screening

New York Times Op-ed by H. Gilbert Welch, Nov. 5, 2014: An Epidemic of Thyroid Cancer [in South Korea]?Nowhere in the world is the rate of any cancer growing faster… Where did all those new thyroid cancers come from? They were always there. As early as 1947 [See: August 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, both ~150 miles from S. Korea] … thyroid cancer was a frequent finding during autopsies. Studies have since shown that over a third of adults have thyroid cancer… Even without a concerted effort to promote screening, thyroid cancer incidence in the United States is up threefold since 1975. To reverse this trend, we need to actively discourage early thyroid cancer detection… having doctors not look too hard for early cancer is in your interest… Too many epidemiologists concern themselves.. with hoping to find small health effects of environmental exposures — or worse, uncertain effects of minor genetic alterations.

Wall St. Journal, Oct 21, 2014: A South Korean court for the first time has ruled in favor of a plaintiff claiming… thyroid cancer was caused by radiation from six nuclear power plants located [5 miles] from her house… “She has lived within 10 km of the plants for over 20 years and has thus been exposed to radiation for a long time. Other than the radiation from the nuclear reactors, there’s no clear reason for her cancer,” the court said… [A] government-commissioned study in 2011… showed women living within 5 km of nuclear plants had 2.5 times higher incidences of thyroid cancer… [In a study of the plaintiff's county by a] nuclear-power research institute… between July 2010 and December 2013, about 1.4%… were found to have thyroid cancer… in 2011 [women had] 114 cases out of 100,000 [0.11%].

UC San Francisco, Oct. 27, 2014: For the first time, researchers have found that exposure to radioactive iodine is associated with more aggressive forms of thyroid cancer… Lydia Zablotska, MD [said] “Our group has previously shown that exposures to [Chernobyl's] radioactive iodine significantly increase the risk of thyroid cancer… The new study shows that radiation exposures are also associated with distinct clinical features that are more aggressive”… Zablotska said the findings have implications for those exposed to [Fukushima's] radioactive iodine fallout... “children or adolescents to the fallout are at highest risk and should probably be screened for thyroid cancer regularly, because these cancers are aggressive, and they can spread really fast… Clinicians should be aware of the aggressiveness of radiation-associated tumors and closely monitor those at high risk.”… radioactive iodine [exposures] are associated with a whole spectrum of thyroid diseases… Thyroid cancer is ordinarily rare among children, with less than one new case per million diagnosed each year… [In the study] researchers diagnosed 158 thyroid cancers among 11,664 [13,546 per million] subjects…

    Scotland Produced Enough Wind Energy in October to Power Every Home via ThinkProgress (Reader Supported News)
    ccording to new numbers published by WWF Scotland this week, wind turbines generated enough electricity in October to power 3,045,000 homes in the U.K. — more than enough for all the homes in Scotland.

    Referring to it as a “bumper month” for renewable energy, WWF Scotland’s director Lang Banks said in a statement that “while nuclear power plants were being forced to shut because of cracks, Scotland’s wind and sunshine were quietly and cleanly helping to keep the lights on in homes across the country.”

    Based on figures provided by WeatherEnergy, part of the European EnergizAIR project, the data also showed that for those homes fitted with solar panels, there was enough sunshine to meet around 40 percent of the electricity needs of an average home….

      The finger points at the AEC … Lewis Strauss and military advisors un-named, and also the zealot scientist Seaborg, with his Nobel Prize ego and naive zeal, to save the world frorm (a non-existant) energy crisis with his discovery of man-made plutonium … which we would be better off without (not to mention the other uranium fission daughter-isotopes);

      Who really wanted to insist that their uranium ore be converted to money … rather than be abandoned as the entirely useless metal which it is … other than to build bombs … or to poison entire planets;

      You see my fellow 'newsers: the truth we tell, here, is elegantly simple; the lies which our pro-nuke enemies construct to uphold their uranium dreams, at this late moment in history, are wondrously complex and absurd, grounded in a fanaticism and greed which is, frankly, ridiculous and unseemly;

      And yet they still rule the airwaves with their lies;

      @Bill Duff, There are many children now stillborn and born with terrible muations and there is Chernobyl heart and many dying of thyroid cancer and leukemia at early ages.

      I was wondering when we would hear your next pro-Nuke comment.

      The lives of many are now totally unproductive: those with ADHD, autistic, dying of Ebola which is rendered much more lethal because of compromised immunity. And all those whose mothers are irradiated while pregnant have 100% all of them diminished IQ and damaged brain capacity. This is also true of all children born during nuclear bomb testing and affected by nuclear accidents as the Swedish children after Chernobyl.

      Fukushima was 1000s of times worse than Chernobyl.

        Quietly into Disaster – A Plea for Survival
        “During the 70s Holger Strohm published ‘Quietly into the disaster’ which was to become the ‘bible of the anti-nuclear movement’(newspaper ‘Der Stern’).
        “Since then, this 1.360 page strong book has been reissued and reprinted several times.
        “Now, 40 years later, the author and a team of young film makers joined forces to bring this critical examination onto screens.
        “Similar to the book, the movie convinces the viewer through well-researched facts about the consequences of nuclear fission: damages done to health and environment, nuclear waste and politics, renewable energy, reactor safety, the serious implications of a nuclear accident and the public resistance.
        “Leading experts from science, politics and activist groups shed light onto issues which are often gladly left in the dark.
        “After watching this movie you simply can’t support nuclear energy any longer.
        Producer: Dr. Holger Strohm
        “Born in 1942, he studied production engineering in Berlin, business administration in Gothenburg, business communication in Toronto, business psychology at Berkeley and educational science in Hamburg. He formerly worked as an executive employee and an industrial consultant. Strohm is author of over 80 books.

    2nd Division Marines landed in Nagasaki Harbor 3 weeks after the nuclear attack. The Jar-heads spent about two weeks 'Roping Loonies'. The Japanese bombing victims were horribly disfigured, burned, grief-stricken and quite mad. The Japanese were bound and transported to medical facilities and other designated places to die. Some survived. Some Marines got sick. Many Second Division Marines and Japanese eventually got cancer and other radiation related illnesses.

    And the Nuclear Village lies about everything.

    Few talking about methamphetamine on a radiation site except me but there's a situation that is critical. The Japanese reportedly invented it and used for kamikaze to bomb Pearl Harbor. Meth addicts did the suicide bombing. Suicide or suffer withdraw after crossing the ocean addicted with no more meth. I see all the cancerous people addicted to it in the streets, also all the cancerous alcoholics and heroin addicts etc. Their cancer's from x-radiation a lot of times as children, and other poisons, lead, or radioactive weapons in the military, these guys are in the streets, many of them cut off from identity with any system and the social services and hospitals goes through years finding out who they r, military destroyed identities to punish, so, some become gang leaders or Hollywood… get's some mysterious bodyguards…, they go about with the drug dealers and the streets of Los Angeles is living proof that you can stay up and running, cancer and all if your willing to be a meth addict, or fighting the pain with heroin also….Cancer is what is expected to kill people that got low dose radiation and it's not going to be the final thing to know who is going to drop first. Cancerous addicts are up and running, a critical strength of the drug industry trouble in the world. One would expect a cancer patient to be hobbling about sick, out of energy and home a lot. NOT the case, many r charging about on meth robbing people, bully, manage vitamin stores, restaurants, not dying…

    Stress is the biggest killer, acute radiation stresses the body and kills fast, with low dose radiation causing illness if the person is beating the other's out of a life and out of their money, using drugs, they avoid this stress, they dish the stress out, their goal is to win more than the other's or just beat anyone they can out of a dollar or energy, or just make a bully scene to collect hatred they thrive on….so radiation related illness is clearly going to create a whole new huge episode of drug zombie terrorists, using meth to be super strong, before they die. They have the strength to fight so we may want to avoid war and battle and need to watch out for radiation cancer people using methamphetamine, the old military trick of superman strength. They have no use for a doctor, may have legs full of sick looking veins that belong in a medical journal, they may be depressed without the meth but the withdraw pain is so bad and the drug always works, they will hurt, lie, and steal and sneak behind your back with conspiracies to make connections, killer scientists are making and selling the meth in big secret labs, news talks about small kid stuff. Addicts r staking out places in the woods, tourist spots, hikers, bikers, motels reporting being robbed by gangs of people, I just saw them rob apartments, beat down apt doors at 2AM with a stick, they are looking at everything possible for cash still under control a bit but it seems anytime riots can start with this going…

    • Yes, good heads up. It's the local meth freaks that made me start locking my doors again in an otherwise calm normal neighborhood. I also have an old border collie who still has a big menacing growl and bark and knows when to use it. Poor old guy is half blind but the radar works and he's super fast when he senses a bad harmonic outside our gate.

    FIRST thyroid cancer victims likely to be the one's that had x-radiation from dentists….the lead shield they use covers what? the thyroid? not when I went. So, the first people to get bloody noses and thyroid cancers, lymph gland issues, etc, already had a condition I call "booked up on rads". The more you get the more that adds up and up. It's the cumulative factor the dentists and x-ray technicians are ignoring as they need to make a nice paycheck with their machines and and expect the paycheck reward for their college degrees.
