Mayor Katsutaka Idogawa of Futaba at 0:20 in

I have a feeling that ever since the nuclear plant was built, we in Futaba were swimming in radiation.

But the people in Tokyo who weren’t being drenched in radiation, they prospered.

I remember seeing spikes on Radnet in various U.S. cities at the end of 2010, so maybe we have been swimming in Fukushima radiation pre-3/11, too.

Watch NRC's annual review meeting at Indian Point near New York City tonight live on the internet

More than 500 concerned citizens took over NRC's Indian Point annual review meeting a year agoA year ago, not long after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear catastrophe began, 500 to 600 concerned citizens took over the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's annual meeting to review performance at Entergy Nuclear's Indian Point nuclear power plant (see photo, left). A repeat of the citizen takeover may be at hand, with bus loads of concerned citizens from New York City, as well as large numbers of immediate neighbors to the twin reactors, planning to attend tonight, representing such groups as Shut Down Indian Point Now! and the Indian Point Safe Energy Coalition.

This just in from longtime friend and colleague of Beyond Nuclear, Alfred Meyer in New York City:

  • "Atomic Energy Makes Our Town and Society Prosperous" – sign entering Futaba, Japan

"Now I realize, that the cons, far outweigh the pros."
"I've come to think that it was WRONG to invite the Nuclear Power Plant into our lives" – Idogawa at about 5:15

The sign was a lie. They get it now. Do you? Does the world?

  • I think the Mayor is right. Anyone living near or downwind of a nuclear plant better start worrying.

The 75% of plants that leak tritium is only the tip of the iceberg.

It looks to me like a technology that is temptingly close to looking like it might be viable, but in reality is a slow-motion nuclear bomb killing people in the thousands.

When things go wrong, it turns into a real bomb and kills in the millions.

if fuel pool 4 stays aloft and the tents work japan should have clean air at least for the downwinders but the nedical/tech/uni/military reactors that are still going are of a concern now!

how do you treat cancer without isotopes?? do we need the reactors? back to square one!! they give cancers and take them away (apart from the unfortunate 10 percent of course…
      food for thought perhaps?

the budapest reactor is a medical one they cant stop leaking and dont want to stop as it makes lots of money for the oncologists amongst us (and their shareholders)…. so coverup time at the IAEA .. even though lots of us are aware of the dire contamination in hungary…

swimming in radiation before daichi etc earthquake indeed.. and its the same everywhere!

      just saying??????

young children near budapest are being contaminated so old people can survive cancer in other countries… its not fair! imo

I want to know. Is this going to keep going on until we in East Japan and the western U.S. and Canada actually develop acute radiation syndrome?

We are not just talking X background of gamma, we are talking about the bio-accumulation of beta and alpha particles in food and water.

Chernobyl showed us what that does.

Holy Cow. This is so much worse than Chernobyl.

How long are continuous emissions, documented on the webcams, going to continue?

I mean I am tired of the circular talk and all the debate about the status of spfp 4.

The emissions are ongoing and they must be stopped!

Hmmm, we thinks that they be roasting weenies in there. Could this be just smoke from the weenie roasts? They are inviting anyone interested to come and roast some smores over the open nuclear pit from H#LL, 5,000 degree liquid radiating corium going down into the ground.

It is leaking, just like all the others.. underground, in the air, into the ground, into the ocean.. and there is NO END TO IT.

Why is GE into making medical equipment, especially for scans and even cardiac ultrasound "bubble" testing?
GE built the Mark 1 reactor even when their engineers resigned on the basis that the design had major flaws, yet GE built the Mark 1 reactors anyway. Might they know better than anyone that nuclear pollution causes cancer and heart disease? So why not get into the diagnosis end of the business? They (?purposefully) obfuscate the information on what damage ionizing radiation does by owning most of the world's media. Plume-gate is likely an apt term.
    OUCH!!!

ML, you are so right. And let's not forget all the radiation TREATMENTS, which of course need radioisotopes like I-131 to be supplied by reactors.

Ah, the perfect business model (and crime); a triumvirate of optimum "health", G.E. nukers style.
