In a message sent to residents Sunday afternoon, [Norwalk, Connecticut] Mayor Richard A. Moccia warned of a 16-foot storm surge brought to land by Hurricane Sandy. [...] “I have declared a state of emergency in the City,” he said. “Coastal flooding from this event will peak at midnight on Monday night and will be worse than any flooding Norwalk has experienced in recent history. If you have ever experienced flooding before it is likely you will be flooded in this storm.” Moccia said that the storm will be equal to a Category 4 hurricane and will produce 16 foot storm surges.
“The mood during the meeting was tense as federal officials estimated a 13-foot storm surge for Westport [Connecticut] -– 3 or 4 feet higher that the inundation from Storm Irene last year,” a news release said. “This is an unprecedented storm,” said [First Selectman Gordon Joseloff], following his team’s briefing with federal and state disaster preparedness officials. “This will be a storm of long duration, high winds and record-setting flooding. Take Storm Irene from last year and double it.” he said. [...] The town is bracing for at least three waves of flooding, beginning with the high tide at midnight Sunday, the announcement said. [... An] estimated 15-foot wind-driven waves [...] are expected on top of the storm surge.
According to the Weather Channel’s latest map, a 6 to 11 foot water level rise is forecast for the Connecticut coastline. This is the highest increase of any area in the US. The state’s only nuclear power plant is located directly on the ocean, see marker ‘A’ below:

Would they tell?
If the Earth was going to fly through a "cloud" of meteors, would "they" tell you?
Supposedly, something as small as 400ft across could have earth devastating effects. What if we were going to fly through a high density zone of meteors say 50 ft to 600ft in diameter? And take maybe 200 serious hits?
Would they tell you?
Or would they make a power grab for all the resources in the world?
Would they build bunkers?
Would they beef up civilian law enforcement tools and vehicles?

On the afternoon of Feb. 4, 1975, Haicheng China county officials, after observing unusual animal behavior (for one, snakes emerging prematurely from winter hibernation and then freezing to death in the winter snow) as well as unusual earthquake activity, well water depth changes and radon gas emissions, among other indications, ordered 200,000 residents out of their dwellings into the winter snow. 5 1/2 hours later a 7.3 earthquake destroyed 90% of the unreinforced homes and structures, and an estimated 150,000 lives were saved because of the official warning and order.
Technically specialized and highly paid u.s. agencies, guided by principles of 'perception management' and yearly budget renewal, will never ever come close to issuing any order, under the worst of circumstances, that might otherwise save citizen-taxpayer lives, on the scale of the rural, low-tech, Chinese quake prediction:

16 ft storm surge topped by 15 ft waves! Who knew?
We couldn't possibly have figured out, from records of nature-gone-wild stretching back for millennia, that building a nuclear plant at the edge of the North Atlantic might be problematic!

As I watch H. Sandy on Weather Underground.com, it has started a turn. Was traveling 45 degrees then 50 degrees and it's now at 35 degrees (0 degrees being due north). It is not quite following any of the computer models closely where one has it going further north while most have it heading into the east coast by tomorrow but Sandy hasn't completed the left hand turn yet. Pressure still down at 950mb traveling 13mph.
If I click on the 'sea temperature' there is some hot spots off the east coast Sandy could pass over and increase its power briefly if it moves slowly enough or even northward there is a bit of warmer water. A hurricane needs 78+ F. water temperature to sustain or fuel itself.
Barely a hurricane but with a large swath of moisture it is carrying with it and moving kinda slow allows it to soak the ground with constant winds before the main event arrives. Wherever that may be.

I can only say they might not ever tell, but people that pay attention to our lovely information posted on the internet thanks to unrelenting reporters
in the right places, can let others see what we read/find and post and keep everyone updated. I thought todays report from CNN news said, that federal agents are stationed at all plants in the path, with goverment issued cells to let washington know if one goes down. The backup generators will not work due to flooding they said and they will just boil down because they would have no way to pump mass water into cooling pools during the storm. Sounded scary to me, I was like wow…

This is a warning that came out Last night
Will Pray too.
The National Weather Service has issued a public warning about the approaching storm. These are the exact words issued in the government alert:
THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE AN HISTORIC STORM, WITH WIDESPREAD WIND
DAMAGE AND POWER OUTAGES, INLAND AND COASTAL FLOODING, AND MASSIVE
BEACH EROSION. THE COMBINATION OF THE HEAVY RAIN AND PROLONGED WIND
WILL CREATE THE POTENTIAL FOR LONG LASTING POWER OUTAGES AND SERIOUS
FLOODING.
IF YOU ARE RELUCTANT [to evacuate], THINK ABOUT YOUR LOVED ONES, THINK ABOUT
THE EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WHO WILL BE UNABLE TO REACH YOU WHEN YOU
MAKE THE PANICKED PHONE CALL TO BE RESCUED, THINK ABOUT THE
RESCUE/RECOVERY TEAMS WHO WILL RESCUE YOU IF YOU ARE INJURED OR
RECOVER YOUR REMAINS IF YOU DO NOT SURVIVE.

In this article they say they are powering down to 75% power to stabilize the grid. I suspect it is in preparation for a SCRAM.
