September 29, 2012 Resident Briefing in Assumption Parish (Emphasis Added):

Part 11 at 2:00 in

DNR Official: We’re trying to vent the aquifer to remove the pressure and alleviate the concerns that everyone has try to get back to their homes.

Part 12 at 0:15 in

DNR Official: Public safety is our concern and we think venting the aquifer is the right thing to do at this point in time.

Part 13 at 3:30 in

Shaw Group: If there’s enough pressure or enough gas present in the upper aquifer, we may install additional observation wells [...] So it’s sort of a step by step approach to determine what is the most safe and efficient method to get this gas out of the aquifer and relieve the pressure… so that everyone can return home

Part 17 at 1:20 in

DNR Official: We want to see the seismic activity go to normal when we relieve this pressure off. Ok, want to see that. And I think that we want to get the pressure off the aquifer. There’s some things we just want to see. I think the parish has made some decisions based upon… public safety, And they’re trying to do that. That’s why they’ve made the decision to do the evacuation.
