Follow-up to: Sinkhole: Workers breach roof of salt cavern -- No pressure detected
Title: 9:05 a.m. Morning Update
Source: Assumption Parish Police Jury
Date: Sept 22, 2012
(h/t Anonymous tip)
As previously posted, the cavern was entered at approximately 8:45 last night. At that time, no gas was encountered. At 10:00 p.m. last night, they finished drilling the additional 80′ and no obstructions or gas were encountered. At 11:00 p.m. gas started to flow from the cavern at 950 psi. DEQ did obtain samples of this gas as well as samples of the cavern fluid. They are currently flaring the gas off.

From zero to 950 psi within an hour – in a cavern – that's a huge change!

"Flaring the gas off."
That's what they did after "gas buggy", because the gas was too hot to "sell commercially". Ah, the joys of atomic fracking…
http://clui.org/ludb/site/gasbuggy-nuclear-test-site
and
"Records indicate the Gasbuggy well produced 295 million cubic feet of gas. This was over five times as much as the well was expected to yield prior to the blast. But where did all that gas go? The DOE reports discuss flaring, or burning off of the gas during a series of production tests that lasted until 1973. Were all 295 million cubic feet flared off? It appears so"

Forward Assist, Thank you for the information sharing the insanity of the oil corporations, with the blessings of our government, to use nuclear bombs as a means to find natural gas. There are too many risks to our welfare to know all of them; but, this evidence does make the feelings of betrayal and disgust rise to the surface. It shows the absolute disdain for the citizens of this nation and serves to document the devaluation of the ordinary person. As more of these corporate crimes are known; I have to agree that this nation does not need "regulations" placed on the business community. After all, any environmental protections that may exist now, are not worth the paper they are written on.

Current dimensions of sinkhole, via homeland security satellite.
compares a month ago to today..

Gee..they can show the sink hole from satellite..what about Japanese emergency with the Nuclear plants-we would all like to see that! But this sinkhole reminds me of sand filling in a hole..or the way sand liquifies when the tide comes up to a hole dug for sand castles. Chilling to think of a quicksand/slurry hole that gobbles up areas with sink holes acting like a fall of dominoes. You push one..the rest go in sequence. Hope they hurry and figure out the DNA/source of the gas..and the directions it will travel. Right now..homes in that area..are really compromised. 2000 or so feet, or 1500 feet is not very far in the grand sceme.

Well so much for the letter I got from the Dept Of Resources saying there is no pressures in the salt domes and not a thing wrong now we see a total different picture

from zero to 950 sure seems there is no pressure .

The Lousianna DNR on Sept 14 put out an emergency order for ALL companys to look/test/vent natural gas. I think its a little premature to say there is NO RISK at this time! At least one "force Majure" was filed due to the "sesmic" activities..those "tremors" that USGS does not list…
See:
http://dnr.louisiana.gov/index.cfm?md=newsroom&tmp=detail&aid=971
AND from the above it covers:
Ground Water Monitoring/Venting Plan
Emergency Order for Occidental
Emergency Order for Chevron
Emergency Order for Crosstex
Emergency Order for Dow
Emergency Order for Texas Brine
Emergency Order for KDSPromix
Emergency Order for Pontchartrain
Report Comment
Yes, I was most concerned about what mystical chemicals Dow might have in it's caverns..
It was most likely, verbal transmitted, as oh shit, we got problems Houston.. start drilling and venting..and burning off..
I mean, not like there are not enough holes in the area.. check the well map..

Massive operations.. huge area encompassed by underground salt dome, multiple caverns. bye bye safe ground water..

"reading some of the older reports, I found one discussing the earlier seismic activity: USGS talking points for August 7 meeting in Pierre Part, Louisiana. Included in it is a map of the earthquake activity; here's a screen cap:
See link DNR Earthquake Map.jpg
Earthquakes epicenters (white stars) between 7/24 and 8/02. The red pins are location of LPG storage cavity, orange pins are locations of gas storage cavities, yellow pins are location of brine cavity, and green pins are salt water disposal wells. The sinkhole is located at the magenta-colored circle, with the Geiser#3 cavity just to the south of it (yellow circle beneath earthquake symbols).
Then, there is this Report on the comparison of the gas from the Chevron NS1 cavern to a gas sample taken from one of the bubble sites. The author gives a good explanation of the difference between biogenic and thermogenic gas and concludes that 1.) the bayou sample is not biogenic and is dominated by thermogenic gas & 2.) the 2 samples are isotopically and compositionally distinct from each other.
The NS1 cavern remains blocked and the wellhead pressure appears to be consistently stable, according to their reports.
Arcadian was notified of a bubble site near one of their pipelines. The testing they did for gas leaks in their pipelines appeared to have no effect on the bubbling.
It seems like the officials would have a good idea….."

They need to stop drilling to look for possible breaches because they are doing the breaching on their own. As soon as they realize that they are in an uncompromised cavern, it should be immediately cemented, capped, and abandoned. No poking around, just put an end to it. Better yet, get some barges in as close as possible, and once a relief well is drilled, moor the ship to the relief well and abandon ship. Go back when it's full and needs another empty ship.
Or just let mother nature do what it's going to and keep people away. Mama Jenny, this one we can not fix.
