Title: Louisiana sinkhole: Giant sinkhole expands to 526-feet and swallows a BOAT
Source: Daily Mail
Date: August 16, 2012

[...]

The gaping hole now measures about 526-feet from northeast to southwest and 640-feet from northwest to southeast.

Governor’s Office of Emergency Preparedness spokesman Christina Stevens said scientists who looked at the site had anticipated the sinkhole to grow and believe its maximum size would get to 1400-ft across.

‘We haven’t got there yet but even at that size it would not be a threat to any homes,’ she said.

[...]

Dr. Madhurendu Kumar, director of the state Department of Natural Resources’ oil and gas division, said the sinkhole could have been caused by structural problems within the salt dome that sits underneath it.

The wall of salt between the brine cavern and the salt dome might be thinner than experts were led to believe, he said.

He said this sinkhole was unusual because it sits on the edge of the dome, when sinkholes normally sit right on top.

as the cavern was near the edge of the salt dome, would a fracking operation caused any damage to the THIN salt barrier and caused a drain off of the protective oil layer, thus causing the watery radium soaked radioactive brew to dissolve it way through the saltrock? some of it has got pretty deep by the sounds of things..

is it a fracking issue? where are the aquifers around there?

That's looking at the positive side…I wonder if it reaches 1400 ft across and 400 ft ddep if it will interfere with some of the other wells in the area that contain volitle chemicals and toxins.

Why 1,400 ft.?..how was this distance derived?

So usually sink holes sit mainly on the top of salt domes….got it!

"The wall of salt between the brine cavern and the salt dome might be thinner than experts were led to believe, he said."

So how were the experts "led to believe" this? Aren't they the ones who are supposed to figure this stuff out?

It's not the size of the wall, it's the structural integrity of the wall that's the problem.

Drilling is a whole different world and drilling into salt domes/mines/caverns is even more complicated since you can find yourself drilling into void with no way to seal up the drill hole.

Anyway, Home Land Security is in charge of press write ups (behind the scenes, doing proper 'phrase' usage) before approved for release to the media…don't want to upset anyone by acknowledging that the 'bubbles' reported are natural gas and not concentrated enough to explode, yet.

Try to follow the link for the 'The Oil Drum' site where many things dealing with all forms of energy can be found on their posting boards call the 'Drum Beat.' Look for…ROCKMAN on August 11, 2012 – 1:51pm…about 55% of the way down on the right-hand slider bar.

You can rest assured they have a clue…Quote the following…"Apparent there have been indications of a problem of some sort for a year or two. Whatever happens my guess is that the problem won’t disappear naturally. If I were working on the drill floor of the relief well I’d be sure to have my fireproof jumper/head gear on. Might not save my life but the family could at least have an open casket service. Sorry…oil patch dark humor. How we tend to deal with stress/fear."

Found this using their search engine…

First they have no idea of how big the cpllapse will be heck they do not know what is happening except its getting bigger. The people in charge have to get a relief well dug we do know they thing is falling apart, no one has done a thing but flip some coins and make some guesses. Let x ray from space take detailed pictures lets do some sonar studies from where BP drilled to the great lakes lets see if the methane and rock is stable and lets stop the guessing and making assumptions lets get some concrete evidence. The letters from companies are no help they do not even know what is going on so lets do a emergency plan NOW and get some real answers.

I just sent the admin some information seems that overseas Methane Hydrate under the ocean is bubbling up and thawing out due to the heat of the ocean, Is this what was going on with the bubbling in Louisiana

Good question, Mark. Here is a summary about what Lauri said about the methane layer and Fukushima:

      10. Reactors 1 and 3 exploded and pushed the heat directly into the bedrock.

      11. Methane accumulation about 2 meters below Japan began heating and affected a pressure balance that must be maintained. The temperature at that level should be 2 degrees Celsius but high heat had been continually pushed into the soil and rocks beneath Fukushima.

      12. Neutrons leaking from the reactors drilled pipe-like holes into the bedrock.

      13. The volume of methane accumulation under reactor 4 increased by 168 times. This is the theory of Nils-Axel Morner.

      14. Reactor 4, which contained no uranium, exploded with a blue flame that shot 1 km into the air and blew out a 14-metre thick wall. (Fairewinds speculated about a hydrogen explosion while considering the sparse information available during the event.) All the reactors had exploded like a chain.

      15. Methane surrounds the earth at a depth of 600 meters and is 1 kilometer wide… Numerous fires at nuclear plants followed the Fukushima catastrophe and signs of heating of the magma (lava) at numerous volcanic sites in the Pacific followed…[the] extinct Nardo volcano in Eritrea (Africa), which had not been active in at least 11,000 years, erupted in July 2011.

+100. Methane in the atmosphere is a very bad environmental disaster. There is more and more from melting in the north, from all nuclear power plants, and from fracking, and now from collapsing salt domes and sinkholes.
