Global resources needed to combat radiation levels, Statesman Journal (Oregon), September 25, 2011:
[...] TEPCO and the Japanese government remain unable to control the nuclear emergency that continues to unfold.
Radiation levels exceed the Chernobyl disaster and now reach a level that is unknown to humans or machines. Radiation leakage from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant was so high in August it exceeded the monitoring equipment’s maximum measuring capacity.
Radiation experts estimate that more than 1 million people will die from Fukushima’s radiation. [...]
Despite these life-threatening levels of radiation contamination, the majority of pregnant women and children in Fukushima have not been evacuated and they occupy facilities that are unsafe. [...]
The United Nations Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights should accept the invitation to investigate the violation of children’s rights in Fukushima [...]

Same way with radiation. “We couldn’t find any strontium or plutonium”… maybe because you didn’t look for it? No, it must be that all the nosebleeds and other symptoms are due to “hysteria”.. silly Japanese who imagine these things because they are so upset, blah blah.

I think you’re onto it there Cataclysmic,…’We’ are all ‘sensing things’,..we here at ENENEWS, anyway! I have certainly noticed my ’6th sense’ rather INVIGORATED, rather than dampened down,…like most others,…as well as other capabilities I, we, seem to be experiencing. Nothing wrong with our, ‘spiritual senses’, I call it. I think my smelling/tasting radiation in 1963, at the age of three,…was a ‘spiritual cognition’, and every time I had that sensation again over the years,…has hearkened me IMMEDIATELY back to all those ‘other times’ I’ve smelled that ‘matalic smell’, taste. As a small child,…I thought I had coined the phrase, “Metalic taste”, because that is how I described it. Every time I experienced it, I said to myself,…this is VERY consequential to my life. I swear I knew that! Too weird!

Mass hysteria often begins when individuals under stress convert that stress into physical ills. Co-workers, family and friends may also begin exhibiting the symptoms through contagion. Outbreaks are most common in closed social units (such as schools, hospitals and workplaces) and where afflicted individuals are under pressure and routine stress. Mass hysterias tend to afflict girls and women more often than boys and men, probably because the illness spreads through social ties, and females tend to have stronger social bonds than males.
Often the physical complaints are accompanied by reports of a strange smell, sound or lights. One of the most famous cases of mass hysteria occurred in 1997 Japan, when thousands of people claimed to suffer symptoms caused by flashing lights in the cartoon Pokémon. Only a small percentage of those afflicted actually had seizures; the rest were victims of mass hysteria.
So 19th century and disturbing. The extent of collusion is mind-boggling.

Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute Research Debunks Radiation Phobia
Research on Low Dose Radiation Actually Shows a Protective Health Effect
ALBUQUERQUE, NM, Sep 26, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) — Radiation phobia, the belief that exposure to a small dose of radiation is dangerous, persists because media outlets and government agencies continue to fan the flames of fear in the public despite a wealth of research to the contrary. Radiation phobia-related harm is a significant risk that should be considered during radiological emergencies such as the incident at the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan.

15 September 2011
Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Presents Reports by the Secretary-General and the High Commissioner for Human Rights
And buried in that report I found this
“In Japan the Special Rapporteur noted that government and international humanitarian response to the Tohoku earthquake and Fukushima nuclear disaster was crucial for ensuring access to water, although concern about contamination had to be taken seriously. To Japan’s credit the Special Rapporteur did not meet with any community that completely lacked access. The Special Rapporteur commended a system of public toilets for the homeless as that standard of cleanliness was above what was seen in other developed countries. A lack of access to showers remained a problem for the homeless. The ethnic Korean community of Utoro was below standards of neighbouring communities, none of the homes were connected to the sewerage network. In spite of the complex ongoing dispute over ownership of the land, urgent measures were required. “……

…………And this seemed odd
“noted that people who stood up for human rights relied on the international community and its human rights mechanisms for support and audience. Regrettably, some States continued to resort to reprisals to silence criticism and prevent individuals and groups from cooperating with the United Nations. Such practices sapped the willingness and capacity of people to cooperate and ultimately prevented crucial information from reaching and informing United Nations responses to human rights concerns.”

If we enter data of the Great Tohoku Earthquake into the Mj formula (omitted here as it is complicated), its magnitude would be 8.3 or 8.4 at most according to Shimamura. He continues, “It is because JMA recalculated the data using the ‘moment magnitude (Mw)’ scale, which has been used only by scientists, that the magnitude could be raised to 9.0.”

What TEPCO and the Media are Hiding
by TAKASHI HIROSE
“Like the government, most of the media, rather than informing us of the dangers posed by this accident, kept claiming groundlessly that there was none. The stock phrase used by both Edano and the TV “experts” – “no immediate effects to health” – means what? That radiation effects start one year or 10 years later? If the radiation was to have “immediate effects”, that would be a horror. People would be dropping dead in the streets of acute radiation sickness as they did after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. But that is not what we are talking about. The question is whether radiation taken into children’s bodies is really safe.”

The best thing which could happen post-Fukushima would be for lawyers in the US, to take the nuclear industry apart.
California got soused with fallout. One would think the litigation would begin there.
Fukushima deserves to be called what it is, essentially, in spite of what little Tepco has been able to do: an unmitigated nuclear supercatastrophe, destroying Japan and contaminating the world.
Unless there is some kind of time-space-matter technology for taking the radioactivity out of all the radioactive elements in a geographic area, or an act of God, it would now appear to be all downhill for Japan.
We are bascically going to have the same thing happen to some plant here in the US at some point. The law of averages would say the US is overdue, or has been supremely blessed. Would it not be better to shut the industry down, beginning with the most dangerous reactors first, before something happens here?

@chemfood
Thank you for the link! I read the paper and have extracted a few lines below:
Decommissioning: “…measures taken at the end of the facility’s operating lifetime to assure the continued protection of the public from residual radioactivity…”
“Decommissioning plans are required just as are operating plans.” [Question: do all nuclear power plants in the US have such plans?]
“Radiation protection in a decommissioning operation calls for…
(2) a physical description of each area of the facility,”…. [Didn't I just recently watch a video of someone associated with the TVA who said that "as built" drawings were a joke?]
“DECOMMISSIONING COSTS:
Estimates for dismantling large nuclear power stations show that these costs are important but not exhorbitant (generally about 10—15% of initial capital investment, escalated to current dollars).” [Question: With construction costs now in the billions of dollars, this is a more than substantial amount of money. This paper was written in 1978]
“There is some concern that where nuclear facilities are owned and operated by private corporations, a mechanism must be in place to ensure that financing is available for decommissioning when it is needed, and that responsibilities for financing and decommissioning are well defined.” [So, am I to assume that this has been done and that ALL US plants have such financing assured?]
“Good records of station construction and materials used can assist in decommissioning.” [Again, I assume this refers to the laughable "as built" drawings.]
If you have time, read the document. It’s interesting.

It is amazing that with these developments solar energy stocks are being traded down to zero in the last couple of months. A war is being waged. Can we do something?
Can you imagine a future where all the existing political arguments no longer exist? In a future when people and businesses are relying on the sun for its energy the human population will no longer be arguing over resource access. Threats to sea life and plant life and human life from wars and from accessing hard to get fossil fuels resulting in environmental degradation will be a concern of the past. Our nation instead will turn to new urgent concerns such as health and education with plenty more financial resources from the dramatic savings in energy expenditures to pay for them. Relationships between countries and our fellow countrymen will transform dramatically more positive.
Solar technology and other clean energy technology is here and ready for explosive growth. With the full backing of our political leaders we can quickly move forward towards a better existence. Please join me in petitioning our leaders in Washington to devote more investment spending in the area of clean energy. Thank you.
