Radioactive material in sludge at 16 prefectures, NHK, June 14, 2011:
[...] NHK has found through interviews that at least 22 of Japan’s 47 prefectures have been testing sludge for radioactive material. 16 of them, ranging from Hokkaido to Osaka, have actually detected radioactive substances.
The level of radioactive cesium was highest in Fukushima city, at 447,000 becquerels per kilogram. This was followed by Tokyo at 55,000 becquerels and Maebashi, north of Tokyo, at 42,800 becquerels.

This NHK article is a bit misleading. Yes, Osaka detected CS-134 and CS-137 in very small quantities: 26 Bq/kg, which was in the same range as the year before and within pre-Fukushima measurements. Clearly, Osaka is receiving fallout from the air (as indicated by earlier dust sampling), but not through the groundwater (yet).

General question for Japan residents: are you finding that supermarkets are removing food labels indicating the place (prefecture) of origin? I have heard several anecdotal reports to this effect as of late in Osaka and am curious to know if this is becoming more widespread.

Life has been irrevocably changed since the combined tragedies, but the nuclear aspect has a much more lingering impact.
Rather than increasing information for parents to make informed decisions to protect their kids, industry and government are working in concert to keep the consumers in the dark. It is sad, especially when your remember that the birthrate is only 1.27 here — a rapidly dwindling youth is leveled with this catastrophe, managed by the aged bureaucrats and corporate elite who have sidelined care for the young for generations. It is a finale of sorts. . .
All I can do is to spread the *real* news and teach the young how to protect and cleanse themselves — the biggest issue is convincing them of the food supply dangers — it is just *so* off their radar. . .

The japanese fail to admit that the radiation headed south.
Happy people are all living south so the radiation does not affect them.
Yet it completely renders green tea into poison. hundreds of miles south of tokyo… I guess happy people don’t drink green tea either…

As the world continues to gaze with concern at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear power plant, hi-tech security cameras installed by an Israeli defense firm are recording events at the troubled core from an insider’s vantage point.
The Arava-based Magna BSP company, which specializes in producing and installing stereoscopic sensory and thermal imaging cameras, had been contracted to place cameras around one of the plant’s six cores – the core that has been experiencing explosions and overheating.
Speaking to The Jerusalem Post on Monday, Magna’s head, Haim Siboni, said the thermal cameras also had the ability to detect the presence of radioactive clouds in the air, but added that Magna had not been able to gain access to the images recorded by the cameras at this time.
“Because we are using these special cameras, we can also identify radioactive clouds, due to the spectrum that our cameras can sense,” Siboni said.
Although Magna is able to gain remote access to its computer system, which receives the cameras’ images, Siboni said his company had not yet been authorized to do so.
“We have not been allowed to take control remotely yet,” Siboni said.
Magna has been asked to secure a second core [camera?] at the Fukushima plant in the near future.

this technology has been available from day one — from the many spy satellites trained down on Fukushima — to those in power, it has been clear where the radiation has been moving, and so they could well have informed everyone necessary to get out of the plume path — the SPEEDI models are just that: models. Pity the population to only receive the benefit of theory and not observable fact.
