Unthinkable nuclear woes may yet become normal in Japan, Irish Times, June 11, 2011:

Not much is worse than children having radiation metres strapped to their chests [...]

8,000 schoolchildren in Date City, 60km from the ruined Fukushima nuclear power plant, are to be given dosimeters to measure radiation. Thousands more children in day-care centres, kindergartens and primary schools in towns and villages around the area are likely to follow suit.

Meanwhile, hundreds of kilometres southwest, officials in Shizuoka Prefecture, home to the nation’s tea-growing industry, have reportedly asked Tokyo retailers to refrain from informing consumers that above-normal levels of radiation have been detected on tea leaves. The prefecture felt that issuing the warning could “fan public anxiety”, said Kyodo News.

It’s hard to imagine something much more frightening than five-year-olds marching off to irradiated school playgrounds in the morning with Geiger counters strapped to their chests. [...]

If it matters…a friend who knows something about ocean currents told me that it would take two years for the BP toxins and oil to percolate through the currents and infect all the world’s oceans. So yes, 2012 looks like it will be a memorable year.

Things are getting worse, maybe long before 2012. Lord have mercy, if anyone’s up early, check out the Tepco cam behind reactor no. one! Something terrifying is happening right now. I’m wondering if the camera cams use the technology that was placed in reactor no. three, i.e., can the color of the film show the type of radioactive particles? There is red flux all over the cam picture. It looks like number four steam but this is pink-red heavy particulate that looks radioactive ‘hot.’ Not sure what is is in gaseous state but it is covering the entire screen making the picture appear to be melting pixels. It’s late in the day – 19:30. Sure hope Raddy and friends leave this place before the proverbial s%t hits the fan!

The camera now changed to infrared but the wonky wiggly pixelation is scary! There is a vertical light that looks like it is hanging in the air over the bushes (or maybe I didn’t see it lit up like this before). The color screen just before the camera switched to all grey was showing bright blue and some green flashes. In the middle of the screen, at ground level where they sprayed a bright green dust inhibitor next to the building had a bright orange light. There are also flashes of light that were like the ones seen before the electricals went out but not as many in the air over all the reactors. The tower of number 4 looked like something was coming off of it. It’s very hard to tell what the heck is happening in which reactor or if there is a full bore ‘ground event’ about to happen. Hanging over the bushes is a very thick cloud, can’t tell the color now but it was a thick beige light color. Darnit, I wish they’d kept the color for a few more minutes. Guess we’ll know what’s happening soon. If it’s number four, well, Emmy’s and Arnie’s predictions came in a little early. Whether no. 3 or no. 4 reactor, or both, are blowing off the ‘meet with Jesus’ gases, word needs to get out to Tokyo moms, ASAP, not to mention all the kids surrounding Fukushima. It’s not right to let them die there!!!

I noticed color and pixel aberrations at dusk and dawn a few days ago. They happen every day when the light levels get too low for the camera sensor. Last night people were freaking out because of the strange blue colour at dawn when they switched to colour vision. That happens ever day too.

What you saw is called “noise” and it happens when you try to take pictures in low light. Check out dpreview or some other camera site…look at camera comparisons for noise.

Just watched the 19.00-20.00 accelerated video. Looks like there were headlights arriving from behind the camera just after it got dark?

What about those flashes out to sea? Are there ant thunderstorms predicted in the area?

I saw the smoke last night too and haven’t be able to find any reference to it anywhere in the news. Has anyone found anything?
