Radioactive iodine in city water spurs enhanced testing, Philadelphia Daily News, April 12, 2011:

… The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency told the Daily News yesterday that Philadelphia water samples from last August contained nearly twice as much radioactive iodine as the recent samples collected after the Fukushima disaster.

“This is just unacceptable that this stuff is showing up,” said Chris Crockett, the department’s acting deputy commissioner of environmental services. …

Kathryn Higley, a health physicist at Oregon State University, said the most likely source is a nearby or upstream medical facility that treats cancer patients with Iodine-131, which can enter the water supply when patients go to the bathroom. …

But environmental officials at the city, state and federal level are trying to identify the source, and carbon has been added at the Queen Lane plant as a “cautionary measure” to help purify the water. …

“the most likely source is a nearby or upstream medical facility that treats cancer patients with Iodine-131, which can enter the water supply when patients go to the bathroom. …”

Oh, it’s only the wee from poor cancer patients up the street. If that were true – why was it only detected now? Were they lying about periodic testing, saying it was done and just pocketing the money? Or were they detecting this Wee I-131 and just ignoring it and allowing it to pass onto into various baby formulas and children’s baths?

  • “But environmental officials at the city, state and federal level are trying to identify the source” because what better way to suck out every last penny of a collapsing economy than to hire friends and family to “consult” on the obvious cause of the increase in radiation.

NAME NAMES. Tell me more about this “medical facility.” I hope they’re loaded. The shoe’s on the other foot – time for THEM to start paying US for thyroid treatments – you know, the ones that we’ll need to try to minimize the illness and premature mortality they’ve also given us Philly residents near this treatment plant.

Who dumps medical waste into the tap water? Of course that includes radioactive sewage. Name those names!!!

The entire northern hemisphere is being “treated” with Iodine-131. That includes every living thing. The scope of exposure is truly mind boggling. When I look into the faces of children, I mourn for the passing of the pre-311 world I once lived in and fear for them, who must live with spontaneous miscarriage and birth defects.

Hydrofracking may be a large contributor to this:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/27/us/27gas.html?_r=1

“And most drinking-water intake plants downstream from those sewage treatment plants in Pennsylvania, with the blessing of regulators, have not tested for radioactivity since before 2006, even though the drilling boom began in 2008.”

Oh and the radiation in the air is from farts after eating bananas.

Did you read the NYT article, which is pre 3/11?

I think it makes a very compelling case. Atmospheric Iodine-131 that comes down in rainwater in undoubtedly fallout from Fukashima. However it would seem that there is more to the story, considering that Philly tested the highest and is on the East Coast where the plume/rainwater should be the most dilute.

Hydrofracking just seems more plausible (and documented) than some NW physicist’s postulation that it is hospital patient pee.

Isn’t I-131 a product of fission? I don’t think fracking is causing fission.

      • Fracking is releasing heavy elements that have been locked into the shale. Elements such as Uranium and Radium, which continue to undergo fission.

Check into the water wells in Texas and what they have known to be in the water there and continue to allow the public to dink it, not in fission but is present and told no one for many many years !

Fracking is a huge problem and the liquids they use contain over 500 chemicals and can never be put back into a water supply. so they inject it deep into the earth, but you know some of it finds it’s way back to the upper levels if not on the surface again !

My uneducated guess is that deep down below near the magma, u can already have the ‘whole coctail’. Cracking that poison could not make any difference.

Anybody here has a 3-4 mile deep well?

        • xdrfox

There have been many case’s proved that these fracks have tainted well in many areas of the country, FDA has agreed, cracks from fracking goes in all directions, up, down and sideways spider webbing as it shatters the earth, causeing a two fold problem, the fracking process and end result and the dealing with waste waters, a 1/2 million gallons of wastes water per well contaminated and is injected into deep pockets of the earth to dispose of,… dispose of ? Out of sight, out of mind ?
Water will find a way to goes elsewhere if possible, just like there are on nuclear plant accidents of problems working with the disposal of that waste ! A part of substances used in fracking is the same what was dumped into the GOM to sink the oil !
Makes one wonder if there is a connection in the maufacturing of corexit to use waste to maufacture something else to make money on both ends and not have to deal with disposal or profit loss with disposal!
Even a dog has better sence then to sh*t in it’s drinking water !

  • xdrfox

And that is “a half million gallons per frack” !

  • xdrfox

    Don’t sh*t in your drinking water !

They keep breaking/shattering the earth under our feet, Moratorium on in parts Arkansas until studies, may be connection to 800 earth quakes in 6 months ! Other surrounding States have many quakes also as well as fracking there too !
