“I am writing to inform you that at a meeting of the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (SCoFCAH) on 24 March 2011, a Commission proposal to impose special conditions on the import of feed and food originating or consigned from Japan was endorsed by Member States.
The proposal, in the form of a draft Commission Implementing Regulation, was presented in response to the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power station in Japan.
A press statement issued by the Commission regarding the reinforcement of controls on imports from Japan to the EU can be found as an attachment to the email accompanying this letter.
The Regulation is expected to be published in the Official Journal on Saturday 26 March 2011 and enter into force on Sunday 27 March 2011.
Under the Regulation, it is expected that:
•the entry control points for all feed and food products originating or consigned from Japan will be BIPs for products of animal origin and DPEs (as designated under Regulation 669/2009) for products of non-animal origin;
•Certain measures will apply specifically to imports of feed and food from the following prefectures in Japan (hereafter referred to in this letter as ‘listed prefectures’):
Fukushima, Gunma, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Miyagi, Yamagata, Niigata, Nagano, Yamanashi, Saitama, Tokyo and Chibathe.
In addition feed and food imports from all other prefectures in Japan will be required to be randomly tested upon arrival at the BIP or DPE;
•Feed and food products leaving Japan before 28 March 2011 as well as products which had been harvested and/or processed before 11 March 2011 will be excluded from the scope of the Regulation.”

Another clear and brutal example of the way that the nuclear industry cleans up its uncontrollable messes:
“…In spring 2011, he heard that the veterinary services of the Fukushima prefecture were going to launch a campaign to kill the surviving cattle and other animals. Metallic wire fences had been prepared all over the forbidden zone in order to trap them in order to inject disinfectant in their veins, not poison, which would cause them to die a painful death. Matsumura was angry: “This massacre made no sense at all. They are living beings. I want to tell the whole world that they are not only going to kill the cattle, all the animals in the forbidden zone will be killed in secret!” In May 2011, there were about 2000 living cows. Three moths ago, there were 400 of them. As for the cats and dogs, we are not really sure about the numbers anymore…”

hopefully the others are getting donations Whoopie… one here in the last two months tells me they are probably not though

I thoroughly enjoy this website, but giant spider tales really detract from what the goal is here.
A Photographer, reporting a story, without photos. C’mon, Really? You can see where questions will arise…
For instance, if these spiders, took advantage and managed to “pullulate”….they must be everywhere, photographic opportunities abound.
