July 12, 2012 report from News 24 (Japan) with summarized translation by Fukushima Diary:

Tainai city in Niigata attempted decontamination of compost by using photosynthetic bacteria to sell compost but they announced the attempt failed in city council of 7/12/2012.

They mixed photosynthetic bacteria solution with compost (21~29 Bq/Kg) but it decreased by only up to 32% though they aimed at 100%. The experiment was done with the soil of Fukushima [...]

  • They irradiate the entire friggin World, and they see it as an opportunity to experiment??

Is there any sanity left outside of ENEnews?

Well, sir, we got 32% of the radiation extracted out of the soil and into the bacteria. But, now the bacteria have 32% more radiation that before. Flapdoodle, this ain't sanity. But, maybe there's some method to this madness. Bacteria is smaller than the soil, weighs less and so is easier to contain. Of course, in Japan, they will simply burn them on some radiated trash heap or disperse it around the country to balance out the national suffering to all. It was my understanding that this experiment had already been conducted and failed some time ago before Fukushima. This means they are stretching and grasping at anything that will even help a little, including resurrecting failed, but, somewhat successful past experiments. I guess 32% of something is better than nothing? And, if it had worked, it would have made Japan fabulously rich as the leaders and innovators of nuclear fallout clean up and remediation. Perhaps one real sign of insanity is the belief that such a technology is nearly at hand.

Photosynthetic Bacteria Effective for Bioremediation of Radionuclides
    may 31 2012

"..Previously, I wrote about the affinity of certain mushrooms for cesium and their use for bioremediation. It seems fungi are not alone in their appetite for radionuclides. There is a class of bacteria that have been known for a long time to feed off of ionizing radiation. When exposed to x-rays, these bacteria are known to move towards the source of radiation, rather than away from it.
Now there are a number of researchers in Japan who are busy demonstrating that these photosynthetic bacteria can be an effective force for bioremediation of nuclear fallout. Here is a brief video from NHK world:.."

Well then, Tainai City fathers and pro-nukers are handed radioactive lemons and attempt to make non-radioactive lemonade compost…….the beginning of the "new alchemy".
