A comment from the narrator of the second video.
"There was so much damage to so many people …. My first reaction was … I was looking at a different race of people; the damage was so incredible."

…Seventy tons of combusted nuclear fuel and 700 tons of radioactive graphite blanketed the disaster site. Belarus, western Russia, and rich farmland of the Ukraine were severely contaminated. Fearful of acute food shortages, Soviet authorities relaxed permissible levels of radioactivity in agricultural land. Winds carried 50 tons of fine particles to many parts of Europe and throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Hunting, fishing and foraging remain restricted in many contaminated regions of mainland Europe and the British Isles.
The cost of Chernobyl, in death and illness and in social cynicism and anomie, is incalculable. Distrust of Soviet authorities grew so rapidly following the accident that many people refused to take protective potassium iodide pills belatedly distributed by the government. In 2006, the Ukrainian Health Minister reported that more than 2.4 million Ukrainians suffered health effects from the Chernobyl catastrophe. The highest estimate of overall mortality from the Chernobyl explosion and fire from April, 1986 to the end of 2004 is 985,000 people. Some analysts attribute the collapse of the Soviet Union beginning in 1989 to the "psychic blow" of Chernobyl. (See Stephanie Cooke, In Mortal Hands: A Cautionary History of the Nuclear Age.) …

Behold the future race of man… Mutant sapiens!!! Will we allow this to happen to our children? How can we let this go on? Who do we have to throttle to stop this insanity? When the reactor no. four coolant pool collapses the rest of the planet will become a wasteland filled with dying mutants like this. Everyone better start praying real hard!!!

If you wrote a fictional horror story you could not come up with this level of absurdly terrible….and it's real…and we are workoing hard to surround ourselves with these already plentiful reactors….beyond satan, beyond hell on earth and we are making more of them, I'm with you The one, who do we have throttle…I'm going out throttling.

A valid point of view might well be that a species that could cause itself to develop in this direction lacks a defensible position to remain in the biosphere.
Well, we are going to take a lot of other life forms with us, I suppose. Good luck cyanobacteria, take a bit more care next time, try to avoid creating any ecologies where apes can get down off the trees.
More seriously, human race found guilty of crimes against biology and sentenced appropriately.

Usina Nuclear de Chernobyl ( o desastre)
[Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (the disaster)]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgQXiOW2lPY
[Google translation from Portuguese – Video is pre-Fukushima]
On April 26, 1986, the explosion of a reactor of the Chernobyl radioactive cloud released a huge number of infecting humans, animals and the environment of a vast expanse of Guadalupe, Africa. The irony was that the accident occurred just when testing was performed a safety mechanism to guarantee the production of energy in case of ACCIDENTS. The accident occurred during the morning of April 26, 1986, however the population was only alerted after 30 HOURS after the accident. Only five workers survived, but began a legend about them, said it was zombies (undead). The Chernobyl disaster is considered to this day the biggest loss in history when it comes to accidents and disasters, at least eighteen billion dollars, not to mention the side effects as well as the value increases rapidly. Consequences: In addition to destroying an entire city the explosion of the Chernobyl plant infected a huge number of people, and so children who were born after the explosion, daughters of people who worked in housekeeping nuclear reactor, showed genetic mutations. According to Russian and Ukrainian scientists, the discovery is evidence that small doses of radiation can cause several changes in human DNA and can end up being transmitted to future generations. Currently known as the "GHOST TOWN",…

We cover our eyes, and pretend no one can see us, yet here we are. When we finally reach that point of no REPAIR, what will we say then? We needed the power? Our equipment required us to produce electircity in this manner, with not one regard to those we leave to clean up our mess.
We truly are the dumbest members of the family Pongidae.
