Title: The Nuclear Sacrifice of Our Children: 14 recommendations to help radiation contaminated

So what should happen in Japan? These are my recommendations.

  1. All areas of Japan should be tested to assess how radioactive the soil and water are because the winds can blow the radioactive pollution hundreds of miles from the point source at Fukushima.
  2. Under no circumstances should radioactive rubbish and debris be incinerated as this simply spreads the isotopes far and wide to re-concentrate in food and fish.
  3. All batches of food must be adequately tested for specific radioactive elements using spectrometers.
  4. No radioactive food must be sold or consumed, nor must radioactive food be diluted for sale with non-radioactive food as radioactive elements re-concentrate in various bodily organs.
  5. All water used for human consumption should be tested weekly.
  6. All fish caught off the east coast must be tested for years to come.
  7. All people, particularly children, pregnant women and women of childbearing age still living in high radiation zones should be immediately evacuated to non-radioactive areas of Japan.
  8. All people who have been exposed to radiation from Fukushima – particularly babies, children, immunosuppressed, old people and others — must be medically thoroughly and routinely examined for malignancy, bone marrow suppression, diabetes, thyroid abnormalities, heart disease, premature aging, and cataracts for the rest of their lives and appropriate treatment instituted. Leukemia will start to manifest within the next couple of years, peak at five years and solid cancers will start appearing 10 to 15 years post-accident and will continue to increase in frequency in this generation over the next 70 to 90 years.
  9. All physicians and medical care providers in Japan must read and examine Chernobyl–Consequences of the Catastrophe for People and the Environment by the New York Academy of Sciences to understand the true medical gravity of the situation they face.
  10. I also suggest with humility that doctors in particular but also politicians and the general public refer to my web page, nuclearfreeplanet.org for more information, that they listen to the interviews related to Fukushima and Chernobyl on my radio program at ifyoulovethisplanet.org and they read my book NUCLEAR POWER IS NOT THE ANSWER.
  11. The international medical community and in particular the WHO must be mobilized immediately to assist the Japanese medical profession and politicians to implement this massive task outlined above.
  12. The Japanese government must be willing to accept international advice and help.
  13. As a matter of extreme urgency Japan must request and receive international advice and help from the IAEA and the NRC in the U.S., and nuclear specialists from Canada, Europe, etc., to prevent the collapse of Fukushima Dai-ichi Unit 4 and the spent fuel pool if there was an earthquake greater than 7 on the Richter scale. As the fuel pool crashed to earth it would heat and burn causing a massive radioactive release 10 times larger than the release from Chernobyl. There is no time to spare and at the moment the world community sits passively by waiting for catastrophe to happen.
  14. The international and Japanese media must immediately start reporting the facts from Japan as outlined above. Not to do so is courting global disaster.

    15. Outlaw nuclear plants world-wide (so we don't have to repeat steps 1 through 14 ever again).

all reasonable steps. Now, no one can say they didn't know – exactly – what to do…

Dr. Helen Caldicott is not accepted by the nuke industry because she does not support the profit and sees the damage of the industry done to all life..

Dr. Caldicott has given a reasonable plan for the Japanese, unfortunately, it is too late. TEPCO has admitted that 100tonnes of nuclear fuel is missing and they do not know where it could be. A likely story, even without the expert knowledge we know that the reactors have had a meltdown with the core material somewhere under the ground and already in the water table. Radioactive material has leaked into the ocean, blown in the wind, been incinerated or simply dumped in areas around Japan and now impacts the world's community. The medical personnel of Japan are leaving, so it is doubtful that global health care workers would be willing to step up to resolve the medical crisis which is beyond their ability to manage. The Japanese government and the leaders at TEPCO have continued to downplay the nuclear nightmare and will not admit that the outcome for the people will be illness and death. In fact, it is a case of blaming the victims. The industry and government have not even been truthful regarding workers who have died while working in the deteriorating plant. Ignoring the knowledge of the effects of radiation on the heart, they simply say "heart attack". Yamashita admitted that "they are avoiding confrontation" between themselves and the people of Fukushima and assume no responsibility, so there will not be accountability for what can only be described as the greatest crime against humanity.

Moses has spoken, but the heart of Pharoah is hardened.

Incredibly arrogant prideful politicians. Greedy nucleocrats steering government decisions and preventing strategies to save the citizens.

It will take death by radiation of hundreds of thousands of children to awaken the Japanese people. Even the Emperor's grandchildren will not be safe from an early death.

Every child is precious, but if Princess Mako or Princess Kako fall ill, or five-year-old heir to the throne Prince Hisahito falls ill and dies….then the people will know no one is safe in Japan.

The royal family has presumably altered their nutrition lifestyles like many savvy Japanese, but unless children live in a HEPA air bubble the rest of their life…they will have to breathe the polluted air. One speck of radiation can be their demise.

Recently Kyoto prefecture approached the imperial family and recommended that they move some of the royal members to Kyoto. I assume it is to preserve the imperial family blood line in case of a catastrophic event in Eastern Japan. Currently all imperial family members reside in Tokyo area.

Amazing we have a "right to Life" party, in the USA, that occurs to be sound asleep on this.. ok if corporations murder thousands, hundreds of thousands and genetically maim millions, but a woman can not have an abortion..

…aye carumba.. as Bart "4 finger" Simpson might say..

I just can't quit thinking that if "they" really care about life, why so silent on nuclear issues, what about the innocent children in Japan, harmed by American ingenuity and corporate greed?

This is a nice list by Dr. Helen Caldicott. I say so because the bullet style is on the point and easier for non-native English speakers to understand (how Japanese engineers love bullets points ideas). It tells them exactly what must be done.

I agree that Japan wasted a lot of time, but I would like them to also think this way that it is never too late, there are still things they can do to save lives and protect themselves. I just hope more Japanese citizens and decision makes actually read this list and use it as a starting point.

At the same time, they must be aware… How can you expect international physicians to come help your people, as long as you (JP gov't, TEPCO, industry leaders) continue denying the seriousness of Fukushima nuclear accident and telling lies such as "no health risk" or "debris burning is safe" ?

Why have many tons of boron not been dumped on these reactors from day one? Has this been done yet?

    Report Comment

    • razzz razzz

They have been dumping boron into the coolant and the US was the first to fly in more boron when this whole tragedy began. Recently Unit 2 was still producing hydrogen at rate that TEPCO was injecting nitrogen to prevent any possible explosions.

How a nuclear plant in so-called cold shut down is still a threat to explode and how you keep the inside of a hundred ton pile of molten fuel cool is beyond me.

TEPCO reports are fewer and farther in between and they seem to omit a lot of data when they do report which makes it harder to understand what is going on at the plant site (probably by design).

Agree completely with most every point. Not sure about giving the IAEA and NRC increased responsibility I don't really trust them to solve problems. Although many may disagree, General Electric has more talented problem solvers with more experience than anyone else.

Do we get a sense of impending abdication of the disaster by the Diet? Maybe they are about to give up and request fullscale international assistance. This takes an act of defiance against their puppetmaster (USA occupation forces), but they don't look in any position to resurrect nuclear technology in Japan so that is one obstacle removed.

They were defeated by atomic bombs and now have bombed themselves on a much wider scale, not two major cities, but the heartland of Japan is contaminated. No sudden death of 200,000 citizens, but a lingering deah sentence for uncounted Japanese.

The nucleocrats refused to believe they were in such danger for many months. Their ignorance of the severity of the problem has led Japan's people to death's door as we approach 1.5 years into the nuclear fallout madness.

But this small group of Internet writers knew it from the first week.
