At 11:59 am, because the tendency of pressure increase in the Primary Containment Vessel, we adjusted the exhaust gas flow of the PCV gas control system from approx. 17 m3/h to approx. 38 m3/h in order to decrease the pressure of PCV.

For some reason they are showing absolute pressure for unit 1 and gauge pressure for 2 and 3. Gauge pressure for unit 1 is 106.7 – 101.3 = 5.4

Hiding something, various uses of various different measuring techniques is a classic "keep it hidden" tactic. Confuse, delay, and in the case of Fukushima, move away if possible.
The newly coined phase "cold shutdown state" as used by TECPO is bogus. And if pressure is increasing to the extent "shared" in the Press Releases by the government/TEPCO — the "state" is degrading fast!

Tepco trying to reduce pressure
There is no try! Do any of the people involved understand the situation? If another containment vessel blows (or an earthquake, tsunami, sneeze or someone looks at it crosseyed) SPF4 could collapse. No one even knows when it will collapse on it's own. I've worked in some dysfunctional organizations, but it seems like the entire Japanese corp/gov system is set up to fail.
Every aspect of this disaster seems like a perfect storm of incompetence. It seems unreal, but I'm not sure anyone could make this stuff up. Am I missing something?

Denial is in every part of their being. They couldn't be pro-nuke otherwise. I can't recall the name of the man in the US nuclear science industry, Ramsey?, who introduced the concept of measuring nuclear safety based upon imagined probabilities rather than on realities as a way of convincing everyone nukes are safer than any other form of energy. These people are still creating mathematical probability models of what is likely to happen if… which allows them to do these senseless, ineffective repairs, despite having been a part of the whole concepts sheer and utter failure with the earthquake and tsunami, neither of which the accepted mathematical probabilities models accurately predicted as long as they used inaccurate information. That was enough for them then. It's still enough for them now.

Its like any disaster, there are several critical steps that alone would be bad but not catastrophic, together are fatal. The plant was designed poorly (six reactors close together) terrible location (earthquake zone with a history of tsunamis), corrupt contractors & engineering firms (bad design that failed seismic tests), and an industry run by organized crime.
Now we have to hope they will stop one or all of the spent fuel pools from falling, and no more reactors explode, otherwise nothing can enter the plant even the robots are failing because of the radiation, and the plant will burn/spew radiation for thousands of years. Of course they in this case is a government who has been asleep and covering up the extent of the damage, a company that has failed, the stock price is pennys on the dollar, and a labor force made up of desperate workers the Yakuza "drafted" to try to fix a plant that was never designed to withstand earthquakes while level 5 quakes happen every month.
I'll never understand why no other countries are asking about how much radiation is leaking into the water, Korea is screwed but so is China and the west coast, I dont even know what to think about Hawaii.

I saw a Tepco-direct press release last week stating the perilous condition of sfp4 was a lie or misrepresentation. It came out a couple days after Sen. Wyden's appeal to Japan.

Remember that they drilled a little bitty hole in Containment2 for the endoscope? Probably just blow the cork out if pressure rises any further. There is no bottom in Containment2, so any pressure at all is probably from a faulty guage, right, TEPCO?

The pressure in unit 2, according to the graphs posted, rose to 139.94 kPa abs (the actual pressure, atmospheric pressure plus the extra pressure inside as measured by the gauge) on 4/23, from 120.94 on 4/2. This is an increase of almost 17%, not a doubling. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please. Any increase in pressure in these things is probably bad, leading to questions about why it should be increasing at all. That said, the situation, an increase of 17%, is nowhere near as bad as the inaccurate headline on this page pretends it is. I've found that it's always wise to read the actual article that Enenews headlines refer to, instead of relying on the synopsis given. Enenews does a very good job of always making the source stories easy to find, thank you for this, Enenews admin.

sandman, I think Enenews means from the beginning of April it was 19.64 and is now 38.64 which is about double of course math is not my forte.

That is seriously strange: how can a former containment vessel which has had holes drilled in it and holes melted through it get above atmospheric pressure?
OK, so if its tight enough to hold pressure then it can only be corium boiling water to steam thats causing the pressure rise. The usual fix for that to date has been to increase water flow, but since unit 2 is not holding water that won't work. So they increase the vent rate instead, to 38 cubic metres an hour from 17 cubic metres an hour. To vent at that rate something has to be getting pushed in to the CV for the corium to be cook it out at 38cum/hr.
Hate to think what the radiation level of the vented gas is!
Does it contain hydrogen as well?

imagine a boiling pot of stew on your cooker. if you got a lid on it then the pressure will rise despite venting all along causing the stew to possibly boil over at some point if the head does not get turned down….
tepco is boiling a fine uranium stew right now, it might be longer til the thing boils over but it has the ability to do so unless they turn the cooker off… not easy when you haven't got a useful temperature control or an off button where off really does mean off.

how does a vessel full of holes hold any pressure unless alot of steam etc. is being produced. just like a leaking steam boiler does. at first, i thought a debaucherous remix of the beatles classic "hands across the water" into "radionuclides across the water, water, radionuclides across the sky",,, but i think a david bowie is more appropriate; "under pressure"
