For those that hound for data:http://atmc.jp/plant/rad/
Symptoms of acute radiation (dose received within one day):
0 – 0.25 Sv (0 – 250 mSv): None
0.25 – 1 Sv (250 – 1000 mSv): Some people feel nausea and loss of appetite; bone marrow, lymph nodes, spleen damaged.
1 – 3 Sv (1000 – 3000 mSv): Mild to severe nausea, loss of appetite, infection; more severe bone marrow, lymph node, spleen damage; recovery probable, not assured.
3 – 6 Sv (3000 – 6000 mSv): Severe nausea, loss of appetite; hemorrhaging, infection, diarrhea, peeling of skin, sterility; death if untreated.
6 – 10 Sv (6000 – 10000 mSv): Above symptoms plus central nervous system impairment; death expected.
Above 10 Sv (10000 mSv): Incapacitation and death.
REACTOR UNIT 1 IS 20 TIMES HIGHER THAN THE AMOUNT THAT WILL CAUSE INCAPACITATION AND DEATH!

What does this mean, this spike?
Report Comment
Bob,
According to the following post the spike means that the corium (nuclear magma) has breached the RPV (Reactor Pressure Vessel) and has fallen onto the drywell (concrete containment floor).
It seems the water TEPCO has been pouring into this R1 area has kept the RPV metal cool enough to keep the corium from melting through the bottom. But now it has melted through the bottom.
Given previous posts on this forum it seems we now how about six hours before the corium eats its way through the six feet of concrete in the floor of this secondary containment. Then 15 feet through soil to reach the water table. If that happens it will be KABOOM steam explosion time as this nuclear magma can reach 5,000 degrees Centigrade.
Then like Emmy notes we have a nuclear radiation fountain, an old faithful gusher.
Before it is over we may have three of them – side-by-side.

this would be the best case scenario, that is if it’s not over 1000*F before it touches water..
After a certain temperture, it will explode violently with contact with water..I’m hopeing and praying this does not happen, and it cools enough to stop, in soil.
Report Comment
Critically has been re-achieved and is being maintained.
Not good, this would also indicate the corium is heating further and ablation of immediate environment has begun or will soon begin; and efforts to cool the Corium are no effective.

Before the just revised standards, this would’ve been about 13 years of maximum annual ‘nuclear worker’ exposure per second.
Report Comment
EXPOSURE LIMIT – 50 mSv/year FOR WORKERS
Health Canada lists the exposure limits for licensed sources of radiation as 100 mSv over five years and 50 mSv in a year for workers and 1mSv in a year for members of the public.
So, even 1 Sv/year is bad. They’re getting 200 Sv – not per year – but PER HOUR.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong on this.

You probably have more up to date, I found it used to be 25 rems/yr for ‘nuclear worker’ and 1Sv = 100 rems.
Report Comment
You can be sure, that noone there is getting exposed to this kind of radiation, as it would kill them almost immediately.
Exposure to a dose of more than 6-10 Sv for an hour is pretty much a death sentence.

No one is there and getting 200 sv per hour. 6 to 10 sieverts an hour equals instant immobilization and death for a human.
200 sv is unimaginable.
No one is working in that environment.

In Chernobyl, there was ~300 Sv/h rate immediately after the reactor exploded – directly above it. Few fireman looked inside it at this rate.. They lasted few hours, then totally burned – no chance to survive.
Anyway, few weeks ago there was already a 100 Sv/h spike and later all measurements disappeared.

OR … 200 sieverts will kill one person 30 times each hour, if that person trys to set a record.

Take a look at the translation (link below). The graph makes sense then. That’s from the same site as I got temperature data from.
http://atmc.jp/plant/temperature/
The orange curve that shot up is radiation INSIDE the suppression chamber, which is part of containment. It’s okay if it stays in there. I believe it is proof that some fuel went through the pressure vessel. It seems likely that 1-3 all did the same thing.
But the red line almost along the bottom (low radiation) is from the “drywell” area outside the bottom of the reactor, so the fuel still is inside containment and the pool. (this still had contaminated water getting out down below somewhere)
The top part of the page when translated leads to a great deal of other good data from near the plant. The site is worth digging into to see what’s actually going on (except for any bad sensors)

The drywell sensor certainly could be bad, but the reading was low even before the suppression reading went up, so it is more likely the explosion early on that started the nasty water leak that would have killed it.
The water may turn even nastier…
We’ll know soon enough if they say they can’t go in the building again… they were just in there looking a day or so ago, saying they wanted to cool the pool to reduce the steam.
Report Comment
I agree.
Report Comment
‘Dry well (D/W: red curve), looks still “ok”’
Yes. I was ready to buy into the dead drywell sensor theory until I realized the table at the left shows the drywell has actually improved coming down from 1.31 Sv (1310 mSv) to 425 mSv. That’s still a very big number as far a humans go.
Report Comment
Hazard any guesses as to why the drywell reading is so much lower than the suppression chamber/torus? Mine is that the molten core has dropped below the drywell sensor and has eaten its way into the torus from above. At any rate, I don’t see how a reading that high is possible unless the core is again critical.
Report Comment
If one check the temp courbe of reactor #1 after the 21/05, you won’t see such a raise.
Report Comment
It’s likely the radiation level is much higher than 200 Sv/hr, which appears to be the top limit of the gauge.
I certainly agree the corium mass underwent re-criticality and has dropped through containment. Frankly, I don’t think there’s a cure.
Report Comment
It most likely had enter re-criticality, but should be still (at least most of) in the suppression chamber… that’s what the red/yellow curves suggest.

Preparation Update
Window Modifications
Today I am working on modifying key windows to prevent dust infiltration. One of the windows have almost no integrity and will have to be replaced.
HEPA air purification.
In air movement analysis, I understand why central air, or furnace vent based HEPA filtration does not turn over the air enough times in each room to be highly effective in purifying the air in a specific room.
Over the weekend I have installed one to two HEPA stand alones in each room. I upgraded these units with an electrostatic layer and theoretically increased filter life out to five years.
Chelation Protocols
I have theorized maintaining adequate blood levels of chelation elements such as zeolite, Alpha-Lipoic Acid, Apple pectin etc. is essential if Chelation is to be effective against inhaled or ingested radioactive particles. These toxic particles can exist in nano scale, passing the best water and air purification technologies I have in place.
As a last line of defense I appeal to the principles of chelation used first by the US Army during the Atom bomb tests beginning in 1945. Chelation has proven itself through the years as an effective means of removing toxic radiological particles from the human body and it proved again effective in radiation released from Chernobyl.
I am working on a protocol, that depends upon timed alternating dosage to maintain adequate blood levels through a 24 hour period. Which is unique in published therapeutic reductive protocols, as far as I can tell.
I fear that these protocols and those like it, will and must become standard practice, a lifestyle in light of the increasing levels of particles emitted by the Fukushima nuclear volcano.
The volcano has been smoldering as of late. I take it, that this news portends yet another potential eruption soon.
Report Comment
Noah, How did you upgrade your units with an electrostatic layer? Did you put a swiffer sheet or something like that over the intake?
Report Comment
Does anyone know about the use of EDTA for radiation chelation therapy? EDTA has been proven effective in the past for heavy metal contamination.
My fear though is that what ever we do to eliminate radiation is just going to get replaced with more of the stuff as radiation spreads throughout the Northern Hemisphere. I would think that chelation is only going to work if you can then get to a safe zone with a low or no significant level of radiation afterward?
Report Comment
Stephen,
EDTA and chelation are probably not your best line of defense right now. Protect your thyroid with iodine, and a protein-bound form is best. There are several nutrients that can protect also – calcium supplementation. I can forward some info – if you do not find what you need.

Jacob Freeze :: Worst Case at Fukushima: An International Cover-Up
*What happens to all that spent fuel in leaking storage pools if one of the reactors melts right through the containment vessel and explodes? After all, there’s a heck of a lot of highly radioactive junk nearby!
Reactor No. 1: 50 tons of nuclear fuel
• Reactor No. 2: 81 tons
• Reactor No. 3: 88 tons
• Reactor No. 4: 135 tons
• Reactor No. 5: 142 tons
• Reactor No. 6: 151 tons
• Also, a separate ground-level fuel pool contains 1,097 tons of fuel; and some 70 tons of nuclear materials are kept on the grounds in dry storage.
That’s more than 1700 tons of nuclear fuel! And even though most of it isn’t hot enough to power a nuclear reactor, it’s still hot enough to burst into flames unless you keep it under water!
1700 tons!
Load that up in your pick-up truck, Billy Bob! You and 1699 of your friends, in a caravan that would stretch bumper-to-bumper for eight miles down the road!
And now when we return to the official story, where a melting core (or three!) melts through the containment vessel, hits some concrete, and explodes.
But what if that isn’t really the end of the story? *

DW stands for drywell…so anyone can explain what this means? Is this actually happening? 200sv/hr is just way too high…absolutely scary.
Report Comment
This in interesting because if you check former graph they exchanged DW and SC values !
The meaning is very different, now D/W value is 201sv/h (0.425sv/h is yesterday’s graph), this means the corium went outside the SC (or defect to utilities).

The 5/23 value of 201 Sv/h is not. It may have been changed/updated or they may have gotten the value wrong. But on the report, they are saying 33 Sv/h which is in-line with the other values rather than the spike:

I checked the 5/22 report and it’s 1.96 not 196…but they’ve already made changes with the graphs once, between D/W and S/C values. If they were so off or completely wrong, why would they leave them on? I hope they are wrong too…
