Absolute and utter BS. More like covering our ass that when we said no radiation we lied.

The use of withheld for National Security is completely overused anymore.

    • Remember, if they knew for a certain that 1/3 of the population was going to die because of Fukushima, for example, they would never make it public. They would quietly head to their bunkers while pretending everything was fine. They would say, “oh look here at this drama, and look there at that drama!” All of course which is a diversion.

In a way, similar to what they are doing now. Should make you go hmmmmm.

  • Heart of the Rose Heart of the Rose

….”in the planning since 2009″…what BS.

  • cossack55

Well, national security could be at risk when somewhere around 200 million really pissed-off people who happen to be toting pitch forks start hunting down the elitist scum. Of course I guess it all depends on whose security you are worried about. Hahahahahahahah.

    • Ariana

Love this comment! I was thinking the same thing… the only reason this information would present a national security risk is if the people finally wake up and get pissed about this.

    • NoPrevarication NoPrevarication

You may be sure that’s the only reason for “national security”.

    • Wrath of Rads

no doubt – the words national security should be changed to ‘security of the plutocracy’

plutocracy is a system that is governed top down by the rich.

Americans are a joke – I can’t believe how much shit they put up with. If people are willing to put up with such blatant abuse of power by your gov – you will all be slaves sooner than later. I am sure there is a FEMA camp cell with your families name on it waiting for y’all.

Video tapes of Oklahoma bombing and of 9/11 pentagon hit are also withheld for the same reason.

facebookdel.icio.usbuzzdiggreddit›› Email›› PrintRICHLAND, Wash. — A spokesman for a Washington nuclear power plant says a small amount of hydrogen gas trapped in a pipe ignited in a brief, six-inch flame Thursday when workers cut into the pipe.

Energy Northwest spokesman Mike Paoli says no one was injured and no equipment was damaged in the “puff,” which he says lasted less than a second. Still, the Columbia Generating Station declared an “unusual event” and temporarily evacuated the immediate area. Plant officials also notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Paoli says the pipe is located in the plant’s main turbine building, which is a non-nuclear area. The plant is located on the Hanford nuclear reservation in …..READ MORE…

NUCLEAR PLANT: Energy NW withdraws ‘unusual event’ declaration

RICHLAND — Energy Northwest determined on Friday its declaration of an unusual event at Columbia Generating Station, submitted Thursday to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, was unnecessary.

Upon further review, Columbia officials concluded that the hydrogen burn, a less than one-second “puff,” in the turbine building posed no risk to the normal level of plant safety, according to a news release.

Why the Hell was anyone cutting ANY pipe at Hanford ? The place is an accident waiting to happen. If you want to seriously inconvenience the entire lower 48, do something interesting at Hanford, Washington.

        • If you have seen pics of these pipes/valves after 40 year + they will not undo as put together, some are barely recognizable, I posted a link a few weeks ago of some at a plant in NJ. Have to be sawed or torched !

          • milk and cheese milk and cheese

xdrfox, I thank you for the news…but…did NO ONE repair the damn pipes in forty years, or are they only looked at when they are about to break? How can they be allowed to get into that condition if there is standard maintenance and inspection of the pipes?
            Oh, I think I know.
Can I have a new script please? I need a rewrite.

          • Cost of:
Say if pipes/valves had to be changed every so many years, lot of in these things, many are hot with radioactivity, can make people who work on very sick, may cause a bigger problem and more costly in dollars and health inside and outside of plant trying to replace !
May keep plant from producing power for set time or cause unfixable problem shutting down reactor for good !

  • radegan

The reason it has to be withheld is because it would make you unhappy and thus more vulnerable to radiation.

  • jump-ball jump-ball

Interesting, and tragic, and atrocious, that “national security” does not include protecting millions of citizens from invisible but fully measureable levels of deadly radioactive contamination.

I hope the half-life of the jobs at these government agency cabals is around 6 months or less.

DOE: “developing environmental policies, standards, guidance,” like withholding information from the People.

Protecting the environment and the public
DOE must identify and resolve environmental policy and radiation protection issues by developing environmental policies, standards, guidance and associated tools to assist in discharging its environmental and public protection responsibilities.

Friends of the Earth, the Nuclear Information and Resource Service, and Physicians for Social Responsibility have filed a Freedom of Information Act request demanding U.S. government data on radiation releases from the Fukushima nuclear complex.

On March 16 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissioner Gregory B. Jazcko told Congress that he was recommending the 50-mile evacuation radius but did not give an explicit explanation of how he had determined that this was necessary.

The three groups called the scope of this recommended evacuation “highly unusual and suggestive of extraordinarily high radiation levels in excess of those reported to the public in Japan and the U.S,” and they noted that the U.S. only requires reactor operators to plan for evacuations out to ten miles.

“The radiation monitoring information being collected by the U.S. Government in Japan is of urgent interest to the public in the U.S. and internationally and we expect an expedited response to the FOIA request,” Tom Clements, Southeastern nuclear campaign coordinator for Friends of the Earth said in a statement. “If the full data set is not immediately released, the government can rightly be accused of attempting to cover up the radiation threat posed by the disaster. This would severely undermine regulators’ credibility.”

“We think the American and Japanese public have a right to see the complete details of the Fukushima radiation data and, therefore, we have requested the NRC and the DOE to release the information under the Freedom of Information Act, said attorney Diane Curran who filed the FOIA request for the groups. “If necessary, we are prepared to go to federal court to get the uncensored set of measurements.”

    From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_security

“In 2010, Barack Obama included an all-encompassing world-view in his definition of America’s national security interests as:[7]

    • The security of the United States, its citizens, and U.S. allies and partners;
    • A strong, innovative, and growing U.S. economy in an open international economic system that promotes opportunity and prosperity;
    • Respect for universal values at home and around the world; and
    • An international order advanced by U.S. leadership that promotes peace, security, and opportunity through stronger cooperation to meet global challenges.”

Unsure how withholding information about possible citizens exposure to poisons protects USA citizens in any way shape or form.

    Marks definition of National Security-

Another Orwellian concept used to justify actions that are, when examined closely, of benefit to a small, privileged minority. Used especially to secure additional wealth. See also organized crime.

    • Promoting peace? Code for dropping bombs and nuking half of Europe with DU ammo. Must have been a misprint. Unless they want to start with Palestine.

      And with U.S. “leadership”?

Code for “full spectrum dominance”. (Read: nukes in space)

A system that promotes prosperity? I guess he means the subprime crisis and financial meltdown.

  • beamofthewave

I am leaving my daughter in Georgia and keeping her there until the summer of next year when hopefully some of this is resolved. I am also saving the air filter in my car so I can use it in the class action law suit Helen Caldicott and others are filing on behalf of those affected by this radiation from fukushima. Tell everyone, save your air filter for evidence.

    • WindorSolarPlease

      Hi beamofthewave

Please be careful of those air filters. It might be a good idea to date and save them, who knows???

Don’t expect anything, just ask the Gulf people.

These are changing times, the wealthy in charge now want the poor mans social security, medicare, and medicaid.
I won’t even get into our privacy and constitutional rights are slowly being taken away.

We already know we are getting waves of radiation from Fukushima and also from our own plants that are leaking and spewing, they are all in trouble.

We also know so many things have been withheld, all in the name of security.
It is also a good label to put on things, that they want covered up.

It is a miracle we are even here with all the contaminations around us and in us.

      US has become
UCCS = United Corporate China State

      Things are run by:
      People who own big Corporations.
Our products are from China, and now they are buying our land
      Can anyone really deny this?

All Nuclear Pants Should be Closed and Never build them again!!

      They want to build more
If they build more then, change needs to happen.
      Safer .. Higher Security plants,
      Fix the old ones.
Build shelters for all the people in each State that has these plants.

Personally I don’t believe they can build a safe plant, when they have no clue how to control it when something happens.

      Just Close Nuclear Plants Down
      Save The Planet

Sorry for the venting. Taking a deep breath now.

  • HoT PEACHES!?! Exactly who’s in charge of testing our food?

  • Jebus Jebus

They have to get a new backround radiation baseline reading, cause the backround radiation has changed!

Just remember, the acronym for Washington State Department of Health is “DOH!”

  • NoVictimNoFraudNoCrime

This is re- f**king -diculous. To have any validity an “Aerial Radiological Survey” should be a scientific endeavor, no? Yet mark their own words:

The baseline would be used in the event of a radiation emergency to compare radioactive contamination to the normal levels found during this study.

So they are saying that what’s in the air in Washington right now is “normal”. Foregone conclusion. They are saying that there is not currently a “radiation emergency”. Right. This is a pretty Orwellian normalcy if you ask me.

    Further, from their FAQ’s:
A radiation baseline tells us how much background radiation is currently found in an area. This baseline would be used to compare against measurements taken after a radiation emergency occurs.
A radiation emergency HAS ALREADY OCCURED!

The amount of material from Japan was extremely low and will not be detected by equipment on the helicopter

They have already developed a position on the amount of radiation from Japan, without having done any measurement.

We do not expect to see any areas emitting harmful levels of radiation.

Proper scientists do not go into an experiment with expectations. They honestly go where the facts lead. People with presumptions typically find evidence that support them.

This whole thing, funded by “Homeland Security”, the same folks who are sexually violating little old ladies and children at U.S.airports, smacks of another make-work boondoggle for local agencies.

Not even to mention that what they might find would be held from us because of “National Security”! I’m so fed up with this crap I could spit.

Perhaps Eycke is right, they are lizards from outer space, or may as well be.

  • Alex2245

The nuclear industry and nuclear regulators worldwide, as well as specifically in the United States, have continually covered up disasters and radiation releases as if they never happened or posed no danger to the public.

To begin to understand the corruption of the nuclear power industry and the danger we are in because of it, you must first realize that they actually fund their regulators, The NRC in the United States and the IAEA for the world.
