Governor Corbett Says Public Water Supply Testing Finds No Risk to Public From Radioactivity Found in Rainwater, Pennsylvania Office of the Governor, March 28, 2011:
[Emphasis Added]
… The [Iodine-131] numbers reported in the rainwater samples in Pennsylvania range from 40-100 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). Although these are levels above the background levels historically reported in these areas, they are still about 25 times below the level that would be of concern. The federal drinking water standard for Iodine-131 is three pCi/L. …
On Friday, rainwater samples were taken in Harrisburg, where levels were 41 pCi/L and at nuclear power plants at TMI and Limerick, where levels were 90 to 100 pCi/L.
Corbett emphasized that the drinking water is safe and there is no cause for health concerns. …
“Rainwater is not typically directly consumed,” Corbett said. “However, people might get alarmed by making what would be an inappropriate connection from rainwater to drinking water. By testing the drinking water, we can assure people that the water is safe.” …

Radioactive dairy products: Tainted rainwater is going to make ordinary pasture grass and row crops slightly radioactive in all affected U.S. states, not just California – and even in parts of Europe and Canada. But the slightly radioactive water that will be soaked up via roots or via drenched leaves, resulting in very minor food contamination, will have the worst impact on the dairy product mix. Cows graze an enormous area of grass and accumulate fallout’s iodine-131 in their milk such that the dose to the human thyroid gland from cow milk will be 1,000 times the dose received by simply breathing radioiodines in the pasture’s air – this is according to a report in 1976 by two Berkeley scientists. This air-grass-cow-milk-human chain is worsened when rains deposit extra radioactive iodine to the ground because the grass in the ‘air-grass-cow-milk-human chain’ is that much more contaminated. Thus, the potential of elevated radiation levels in California dairy milk, especially for recent rain-impacted areas, should be a concern. This effect, called bioaccumulation, also applies (although to a lesser extent) to cesium-137, strontium-89 and strontium-90 in milk. In America’s Cold War-era environmental radiation monitoring efforts, the presence of strontium-89 in milk was a high short-term health concern because this milk-to-bone traveling radioisotope emits very strong beta energies in internal organs.
Appreciating the full scope of the air-rain-grass-cow-milk-human-thyroid chain is important to comprehending that sustained, elevated environmental inputs of radioactive iodine, for example, can result in quickly emerging public health problems. Rapidly rising milk contamination levels could result from daily rainouts from Fukushima plumes over California at current levels. If the plumes become more concentrated in radioiodines, we could see something like ‘the summer of ’62′ in Utah.

these particles are so tiny like dust that no filter on your water will catch them. they lay on the plants and animals eat the plants, then other animals eat those animals and sometime many of them end up on our dinner table. Even if plants are covered with RAD DUST, when they die the RAD DUST goes back into the earth and becomes more concentrated. Its a vicious cycle. We will loose several inches of top soil before we can safely plant again and what do we do with the contaminated dirt and water?

But no one is talking about the other isotopes in the air right now. Plutonium, strontium, etc… why no numbers on that? They only tell us about the beta, and nothing about alpha… All of these particles are now streaming out of those reactors, and have been. One reactor, you can see the top of the chamber completely blown off, so it’s ALL coming out of that one for sure. Now they are saying it’s partial melt down? Which really means, the partial was about a week ago, since then???
The reason they are not telling us it all, is because it would cause nation wide panic. We are getting this much, which is = to how many nukes going off? Remember Chernobyl? It was so bad the Russians put 500,000 men to work covering it over with lead and concrete. The Japs have done nothing but put corrosive salt water on it.
So yes it will get much worse.

Actually to be fair, the Russians put 800,000 people to work on the Chernobyl cleanup. They were termed bio-robots and they each went in and only spent a few minutes cleaning up before having to come out again. These “Liquidators” as they were called, are all dead and dying today.
The containment at Chernobyl is in a critical state of repair and scientists monitoring it fear it is due to collapse any way, which will relase a new cloud of radioactive dust which has accumalated as the uranium/sand lava has degraded since.
The Japanese need to face the horrible truth, that their future is bleak, that they are going to a terrible and dark and sad existence and nothing is going to stop this, but that if they sacrifice enough now, and fast they might be able to contain this and at least limit the harm to other nations. But this means literally a few million kamikazi style cleanup workers. The site is much biger and more messed up than Chernobyl. The contaminated land around the site, is no longer viable of course and the people evacuated can give up any hope of ever returning.
They are not telling the truth of things, they do not trust you to know it and they do not care that you will only lose more by not being adequately informed. All that matters to them is maintaining control, of whatever remains.

We all know it’s a lot less then what Japan and others have.
They say it is lower than scans here. How many scans can you have before it becomes unsafe for the environment and us?
Is any radiation levels safe? If so, why wear a safety bib at the dentist when he takes x-rays?

Iodine-131, 8 days is the half life but that means half of it is still present/potency, it is said to fully dissipated after 30 to 40 days.

By definition, “half-life” would go like this: 50% in 8 days, 25% in 16 days, 12.5% in 24 days, 6.25% in 32 days, 3.125% in 40 days, 1.5625% in 48 days, .78125 in 56 days – so, in two months it’s down to about 1%. But, if each day the source of radioactive iodine is renewed, then in a very short time there will be whopping amounts of radiation as it gets built up quicker than it depletes. What I have read is that Iodine-131 is said to be easily absorbed into the body through the skin, as well as if it is taken internally.
The thyroid will take in this Iodine-131 making no distinction of if it is a good or bad Iodine.
This is why they have the Iodine/Potassium tablets to take for having the thyroid absorb the safe Iodine before the thyroid can absorb the bad Iodine-131.
It is a matter of which Iodine gets to your thyroid first.
Why the Iodine/Potassium tablets are taken when you suspect you are going to be or may have been exposed.
But we may not be dealing with just Iodine-131.
FDA is saying no unsafe levels have been detected. Still a dilemma ?

Iodinized Salt like “Morton’s Iodinized Salt ™”. Iodine-131 is taken up into the thyroid only if there is already a defiecency of iodine in the thyroid. And if you haven’t been getting enough dietary iodine in your diet, there will be an iodine deficiency in your thyroid. The Japanese people eat seaweed that has iodine. This may work in there favor.

I worry least about reservoir water supplies because the radioactive particles will settle out quickly and disperse into the sediments, but the fallout will be in snowmelt too, so exposure will be long and sustained. Water is not drawn from the bottom of the reservoir for municipal water supplies. Particulate that happens to make it into the water supply to your home can be filtered out with a carbon filter. If radiation levels in the water are high then the filters may become dangerous and must be handled accordingly. You should change your filters more often if fallout becomes significant.

EPA and state officials are basing their judgments of public health consequences relating to the radioactive exposures from the global Fukushima releases on data that is very sketchy. Their pronouncements carry a huge degree of uncertainty. In the California state capitol and in the EPA, officials simply have no idea if children right now are drinking slightly radioactive milk in parts of the state. Officials think that isn’t the case because of their models, but their models have a margin of error that is tremendous.
The only way to reduce uncertainty is to increase the data. Put more deployable
monitoring stations in every state, and start testing milk and tap water and leafy
vegetables for radioactivity.
According to the EPA, for drinking water, the average concentration of iodine-131 which is assumed to yield 4 milliRem per year is 3 picocuries per liter (3 pCi/l) and the average concentration of Cesium-137 which is assumed to yield 4 milliRem per year is 200 picocuries per liter (200 pCi/L). However, the EPA’s dose formulas don’t take into account the dose to the thyroid gland from the Iodine-131. The NRC’s very own formula for thyroid gland dose from Iodine-131 cited in a 1977 document substantially raises the risk from ingestion of iodine-131 tainted milk.

In a nuclear explosion the radioactive solids and radioactive gases both escape into the environment. In an operating nuclear reactor, steel vessels, corrosive-prone cladding and pipes and the containment building itself keep some, but not all, gaseous radioactive chemicals from escaping into the air and the soil and water.
But every single radioactive gas produced at the containment-less Fukushima reactors and outdoor swimming ponds for fuel rods has escaped. These gases escaped via leaky or manually opened pipes and vents and from cracked or melted fuel rods that blew out gases created via low or re-criticality fissioning or neutron activity from plutonium or uranium.
The leaked gases are no different in nature than what is released into the environment if you conducted an open air hydrogen nuclear (thermonuclear) explosion in the rain – the solid radioactive chemicals mostly would be suppressed, but the gases would leak out and float around an entire country or hemisphere. The gases would later precipitate into radioactive solids – or stay as radioactive gas in air.
Since all of the above radioisotopes are or once were gases, they had (and as long as they are being still released at Fukushima, they still have) the potential to travel large distances from the reactors, even further than Tokyo. Radioactive solids attach to dust particles and can travel across the globe with ease. That even includes plutonium.

and people are out in the rain, you cannot tell me they are not absorbing this through their skin! Our Government at all levels is corrupt as hell, people are already showing flu like symptoms and itchy skin and the governor says sure there is radiation, buit its ok? I watched two nuclear reactors blow sky high on TV, and was told its nothing to worry about? Ha! Are we that stupid that we do not trust our own judgement and resoning abiities? Two nuclear reactors blowing up are not good, I’m not looking forward to brain cancer, but at least I’ve had a full life, what about all the children these bozos are needlessly and shamelessly putting in harm’s way to save a few dollars on IoSat pills?

President Obama Gets Openness Award in Private
Mar 31, 2011
President Barack Obama has accepted an award for making the government more open and transparent — presented to him behind closed doors. No media coverage or public access was allowed at the ceremony.
The White House didn’t immediately comment Thursday on the
apparent discrepancy between the honor and the circumstances under which it was awarded.
The award was given by open-government advocates including the
Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press to recognize Obama’s
work toward encouraging agencies to release information to the
public — and to encourage him to do more. The group’s executive
director, Lucy Dalglish, says she was flabbergasted that the White
House didn’t allow coverage of the event Monday.

The only “openness” has been his openly lying. Obama should go celebrate his award with a dinner of Gulf seafood and a big glass of radioactive water!

Did anyone notice that these readings were taken NEAR EXISTING NUCLEAR PLANTS IN PA?
Do you think perhaps it is not from Japan, how would they know the source?
Could this be an indication that these 30+ year old plants may need some safety reviews?
Why didn’t these levels show up in NJ or NY?

I graduated with an MS in Soils (BA Botany) in 1979, canned the PhD for a job in the SCS where initiation included sex on the job, alcohol off the job, and embezzlement during break. I then reported on a hydroelectric plant proposed in western washington, to wit that if evaporative potential was included in the pro forma, then the investors would lose every penny. Again, I’m starving, because the developers are the experts, they make the money, the investors trust them, and Puget laughed at me since net moisture flux over the ocean was upwards, whoever saw it rain upside down. Right, the investors lost every penny while I continued to starve. Well, let me assure you, Mr. FBI man, that the expanse of ocean between Japan and the US might as well be 50 miles. Radiation will be retained as moisture is drawn into the air on the trip over, and then released as rain the minute it collides with land. Thank you, Mr. Government, for giving us fluoride, autism in vaccines, GM foods with God knows what in them, and fraud in everything. Most of all, we thank you for not telling us that nuclear energy wasn’t ever needed and for denying the painful death to follow.

Remember the old saying!!!! believe only half of what you hear? The media has been told to keep this quiet and so they go to all the Libya crap to distract us. Truth is we are in very big trouble. When they say “don’t worry” thats when you worry like hell. We need to form a group of thousands demanding the truth. Our lives and that of our families are at stake. My young daughter said today, “mom, I think its too late for truth”, now that is the TRUTH !!!!! From the mouth of Babes

Would you please be so kind as to link directly to your sources, I am having great difficulty reading the ‘whole enchilada’, in order to substantiate your links – which sadly all come back to your own blog.
Please help, such that the info can be shared more readily!
Much appreciated, please do this, for all of our sakes. We don’t have time to dicker around with self referential blogs – and I know you want to ‘do good’.
Thanks very much.

The usual endless stream of castrated whiners. We are facing this situation because for years up to this point no one has inconvenienced themselves to fight back or take action. Just whine and simper how life owed them a living and justice. Grow up Wake up ACT Up!
Now its too late, and you are getting what you deserve for enabling evil.
It will soon consume you and wipe you out. Even then most of you will have learned NOTHING.

Has anyone noticed that the Fukushima facility has no cooling towers like the ones in the USA? So where do you think they have been getting there coolant from for the past few decades? And where do you think they have been dispersing this substance?
During the Three Mile Island nuclear accident, a 90% infant mortality spike occurred at McGee Hospital in Pittsburgh in western Pennsylvania due to the plume release. There is no known safe dose level of radiation, if you live within 300 miles of a nuclear plant you are exposed to constant bombardment that may cause you harm or exacerbate present medical conditions. The human body is capable of selective uptake when talking of mineral absorption; this means if you can eat organic, non-contaminated fresh fruit and vegetables your body will change out the radioactive minerals for the safer ones. People who live around the Shippingport Nuclear Facility, in Beaver County, Pennsylvania have been told not to eat from their gardens as they are not safe. This valley has the longest exposure to low-level, mid and high levels than any other group of people on the planet. So much corruption surrounds the nuclear fuel cycle, the Vital Statistic Records of our state were altered to cover up the the disease and death caused by the exposure to so called safe levels of radiation. The reason that these electrical generating facilities exist is to make weapons grade plutonium (WMDs), they are part of the military corporate complex, this is how the US military kills it own people. When the NRC and Duquesne Light Co. did the decommissioning of the the naval reactor at Shippingport PA., they turned off the warning system so they could cut the containment open to remove the core for transport. They did this because the mid-level and high-levels of radiation would have set off the alarms. This would mean that the people Beaver Valley took the hit from the core; as well as, those along the train route of the dismantled core. The commercial nuke generators have had thousands of releases just go to your local nuclear depository and read the Gray Books of each reactor and facility, if they haven’t already been redacted. Hopefully, you can find your regional depository. One million new cancers a year from the normal release of radiation from nuke electrical generation. Anybody remember how Curie died?
