California Researchers Detect Radioactive Release From Fukushima Plant, Bloomberg by Ryan Flinn, August 15, 2011:

California scientists witnessed a spike in radioactive airborne material in March following the meltdown of Japan’s wrecked Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear power plant, a study showed.

Researchers at the University of California, San Diego, observed the highest levels ever detected of radioactive sulfur in the atmosphere, 15 days after Fukushima’s operators cooled the damaged reactors by pumping in seawater, according to a study published today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. radioactive sulfur…

that was the yellow stuff that was found everywhere… i think i even had some in canada in a bucket outside.
this was the radioactive stuff that they called “only pollen” from trees and whatever.

you guys all know we have to [REMOVED] right?…

That was the funniest thing I’ve read all day!
Thanks for the laugh… it helped to keep me from crying!

  • Great observation…

    Only one comment.

You all can now clearly see that The atmosphere is being blown off the planet.

There is radio toxic isotopes being constantly distributed in tens of trillions or even googles per day.

The entire planet is now being effected. Radio toxins are just that “toxic”. The emissions from fukushima are mox fuel. Mixed oxide. It is the largest threat in nuclear reactors.

Main stream Nuclear Physicist’s knew the planet could only take one direct hit from one of these reactors…

    Now were dealing with four…

Were sitting with a panel of only 100.000 people on the planet that have any real idea whats going on. this is an outrage… Their demands for building materials should all be met without question. Though economical stigmata stands in humanity’s way. Threatening our extinction. Over stocks and insurances…

This is a crime beyond that of any ever witnessed in the entire history of mankind.

Vote Ron Paul my ass. I’m not voting shit until these presidential candidates speak on the Fukushima disaster management.
Sign a petition to make the president do his job.

The Japanese need to build a super sized fish tank for these reactors…

Why isnt every military on the planet engaging into the incident providing humanitarian aid? Its us the people that have to demand this!!!

Military ships should be sending supplies tools concrete, workers.
Evacuate the women and children, take it out.

    Where is the collaboration?

Why are we the people so arrogant to not go to our court houses and demand action?

CNN is just as guilty for not reporting these incidents.

    Were in a pickle.
    lets make some pickle juice.

Good points, Tacomagroove. Especially about the politicians. So how about we go, individually, to any political Q&A and bring up the need for monitoring, response, information and action on Fukushima and related issues? Keep bringing it up so it does not go away. Eventually, MSM may catch on, but before that, the politicians will have to speak on the subject or be shown to be self-censoring. I’m starting this with a local neighborhood council, to see if the little town I live in is willing to declare itself a “nuclear-free zone.” Start kicking them in the shins and keep going north until you connect with something that really hurts.

Oh, and anyone have any stats on what radiation does to sperm, fertility, motility, birth rates, birth defects, genetic mutations, etc? THAT will get some attention, along with the concept: RADIATION = CANCER. NUCLEAR REACTORS = RADIATION. DO THE NUCLEAR MATH!

If we-the-people don’t start making noise about this wherever whenever we can, there will be no one left to make an noise at all.

      • Propose strikes, and protests at court houses all around the globe…

        • everyday.

Demand the president and congress take action.

We can create jobs, by setting up radiation monitoring stations in supermarkets…

          This is getting ridiculous.

Do we have to spoon feed them…

How are we ever going to make progress, when nuclear proponents are using billion dollar ad campaigns to sway the public from the true mess of a reality were finding ourselves in…

    • norbu norbu

That is well said. why is there no help from the world on this? We the people who understand must take action. This situation is going to get worse if something is not done. My brother let his job go in Washington st. and headed for safer ground. He said there is debris floating to the west coast now. Radiation heavy “metalic” taste everyday. Tacomagroove is write voting for who? There is no one worthy. Get up Stand Up , Stand Up For Your Writes. A general strike for 1 week. Dont go to work. Get enough food for a week. Use very little power. Drive your car as little as possible. Its time for a change. If we do it together We can get there attention. Our use is there profit. Take this time to send a message of peace, but we have had enough!

Dam, Taco I’m glad you are back !

Finally someone talks about action. This shit has to be dealt with. No ‘deals’ with Japan by Ms. Clinton that the won’t test any imports ! This is pure diplomatic BULL !!

And, from where I stand “money talks, and bull walks”.. the bull needs to be stopped.

I agree totally. 5 Months not Weeks down the road and counting. What is being done? Only more and more ‘late info’ they forgot to tell the people. Little children being sacrificed for crying out loud ! Baking ‘Safe Cookies” from Fukishima. Geesh. Give us all a break with the Propoganda!

I have eaten so much of it that I could puke !

The hell with being ‘politically correct’ and ‘diplomatic’. Not only are they dealing with their own form of genocide, they are nice enough to ‘SHARE’ it with us all.

I have gone from being empathetic, sympathetic, to angry beyond words. 10 Years down the line, just like with the BP Oil ‘spill’ we will be reading this same crapola and eating and breathing more and more radiation. Maybe you all are willing to do that, but I’m over it.

I come here less and less because it is the same old crap day in and day out. More exposure but nothing happens. Who drives this ship we are on? WE Don’t that for sure !!!

GET MAD !! Enough of this !!
If we don’t take measures, the gov. sure won’t, we have seen that. Stopped monitoring , or at least letting the public know. Made a promise to Japan that we would NOT test their imports? Come on, EVERY other nation, democracy or communist are testing the stuff, why isn’t the

Good For you Tacomagrove Thanks for bringing up the truth about what is happening AND NOT HAPPENING !!

I would like to ask if there is anyone in the SF bay area that would like to organize a protest of some sort? I almost went to the BART protest today, but I had to decide between that and getting some necessary stuff done…if the protest had been an anti-nuke protest, I would have been there in a minute, though…

I especially liked the V for Vendetta references to this protest; I almost think that something similar has to happen to bring down the PTB…I believe in peaceful resistance as much as possible, but I am also getting fed up with hearing how disposable the masses are to those who have power and control(read:money)

I like the idea of things like local currencies because it takes the power away from the elite, and of course self-suffiency in whatever way possible…

I made a decision on a geiger counter, and will be buying it by tomorrow; then I hope to do my best to learn how to use the thing and get some readings for this area. I am really pissed about what I heard about Dutchsince…

I am a designer, photographer and videographer professionally. I would be interested in filming your bay area tests, and perhaps producing a video with the results.

glad to know there is somebody else in the bay who wants to know the truth. It would be interesting to see if we can verify the data reported by the UC Berkeley Nuclear engineering department…

I know why…the countries who could help are mired in helpless inertia and the curse of nationalistic pride and boundaries. Would a president or a premier order 500,000 soldiers to their death in a country that has a self-inflicted fatal wound? No, because of the sovereignty issues, and monetary issues, and the liability of soldiers put into such life-threatening situations.

Throw in also the inescapable fact that the nuclear industry will be totally persona non grata if one of the top technology countries in the world cannot extinquish a nuclear plant fire.

We must face it…nobody is coming to rescue the Japanese.

Oh the world will deliver some supplies and offer advice ad infinitum.

The real change in nationalistic pride and sovereignty will happen the day when nuclear steam overwhelms the plant grounds nonstop…for days.

Tepco workers will be ordered to evacuate. Red phones will ring off the wall in a dozen major countries.

When that day comes the Japanese will themselves ask to be bombed…inviting American or Russian or Chinese planes to bomb the island with neutron bombs in the hopes of splashing everything into the sea. America has those bombs so they may supply them and they have to have the consent of Korea, China and the closest countries before that action happens. It’s a nightmare Deep Impact situation that will need world cooperation that has never happened before.

Yes that sounds like an insane scenario, but the other known insanity is to let the emissions burn until everyone is sick in the world.

Take your pick… nuclear debris in the ocean or microparticles in the atmosphere forever searing your lungs.

Is the nuclear option being considered? It may be a hotter topic in the deep rooms of the Pentagon and Korea and China than we imagine.

Just thought I would throw that out there because it is well known firefighters fight fire with fire.

So far the little water cannons haven’t done much but annoy the nuclear fires. You need a huge amount of water to drown the nuclear cores and there is only one way to achieve it. Blast the island into the sea.

    Yellow Rain?

Remembering Chernobyl, By NATALIE BANACH ,Published April 25, 2006

“We all jumped in the puddles with the yellow stuff. […] You don’t see (it in) the air, it doesn’t materialize. But when you see the yellow dust, you see radiation,” Antonina Sergieff said.

When these elements first reached Sergieff 20 years ago, they came in the form of yellow rain.

It was not long after that residents in her hometown knew it wasn’t simply “pollen” – which is what government officials assured them, she said.”

    • Radiation from Fukushima plant spiked on U.S. west coast in March
      Aug. 16, 2011
WASHINGTON — A spike in radioactive sulfur from the damaged Japanese nuclear plant was detected in California in late March, but researchers say it posed no threat to health. …

      • “The levels we recorded aren’t a concern for human health. In FACT, it took sensitive instruments, measuring radioactive decay for hours after lengthy collection of the particles to precisely measure the amount of radiation,” said Thiemens. – from article

I would say the second part of Mr. Thiemens statement is a ‘FACT’. It did take sensitive instruments to detect the radiation.

However, I would say the first part of the statement is NOT true or factual, but the way the sentences are put together the brain may initially store both important pieces of information as fact.

I base my statement on brain study articles I have read, and you can google for it if you wish, that clearly show via MRI scan that the brain stores information differently when specific key words are presented. One of those key words is the word ‘fact’. The brain actually lights up and stores the information in a separate area. It’s verbal ‘trickery’.

(Your brain is lighting up right now!)

  • NeverAnyDanger

“The amount of radioactive material that escaped from the reactor’s core and found a kilometer above Fukushima was 365 times higher than normal, researchers calculated in the study. About 0.7 percent of the material made its way 5,800 miles across the Pacific Ocean to California, the study said. Researchers made their measurements in La Jolla, California.”

So how much radioactive material escaped in all? And the US got 0.7% of that amount?

On the link to the other article it says “the researchers calculated that 400 billion neutrons were released per square meter surface of the cooling pools, between March 13, when the seawater pumping operation began, and March 20, 2011.”

How does the unstated total amount of radioactivity released, radioactive sulphur, the 0.7% and the 400 billion neutrons go together?

Even when information comes out I can’t tell what it means other than it’s more bad news.

You don’t understand what substances are involved. Study Fukushima and kindly ask us for bibliographies. I’m working on the one I’ve developed of about 50 documents, primary research, former operator testimonials and an array of high-quality secondary sources. Once you undertand what the substances and what dangers they represent to you, particularly within these circumstances, you won’t be working hard to minimize the reality of the situation.

The Holocaust by Bullets: A Priest’s Journey to Uncover the Truth Behind the Murder of 1.5 Million Jews

“Father Patrick Desbois is a French Catholic priest who, virtually single-handedly, has undertaken the task of excavating the history of previously undocumented Jewish victims of the Holocaust in the former Soviet Union, including an estimated 1.5 million people who were murdered in Ukraine.” –Wall Street Journal
“Part memoir, part prosecutorial brief, The Holocaust by Bullets tells a compelling story in which a priest unconnected by heritage or history is so moved by an injustice he sets out to right a daunting wrong…One might think Holocaust history has been exhausted, but Desbois breaks real news about how an emerging democracy in the New Europe still hasn’t emerged from World War II. We have witnessed a decade of forensic excavations documenting genocides in Guatemala, Bosnia and Rwanda, but only now are these same tools being used to find the murdered Jews of Ukraine, thanks in large part to Desbois.” – The Miami Herald
“Father Desbois is a generation too late to save lives. Instead, he has saved memory and history.” –Wall Street Journal
“One of the most moving, troubling and insightful books on the Holocaust, or for that matter any other subject, that I have ever read.” –Eugene J. Fischer, The Catholic Review
“Using a diverse team consisting of a researcher, photographer, interpreter, and ballistics expert, Desbois endeavored to uncover these burial sites and the brutal stories behind them. He uses ample testimony from those who may have witnessed key parts of this brutal process, and he makes some surprising discoveries. The narrative flows because Desbois has such a passion for his subject; he writes simply and well, so that even readers with little initial understanding will learn a lot. The result is an outstanding contribution to Holocaust literature, uncovering new dimensions of the tragedy, and should be on the shelves of even the smallest library. Highly recommended.” — Library Journal, starred review
“An important addition to studies of the Shoah, agonizing to read and utterly necessary.” — Kirkus Reviews
“In Jewish tradition the greatest category of acts one can perform are those of ‘loving kindness,’ including taking care of the sick, welcoming the stranger, and sheltering the needy. The most treasured of these acts is taking care of the dead because, unlike the others, it cannot be reciprocated. Jewish tradition posits that it is then that the individual most closely emulates God’s kindness to humans, which also cannot be reciprocated. Father Patrick Desbois has performed this act of loving kindness not for one person but for hundreds of thousands of people who were murdered in cold blood. He has done so despite the fact that many people would have preferred this story never to be uncovered and others doubted that it ever could be done. His contribution to history and to human memory, as chronicled in this important book, is immeasurable.” — Deborah E. Lipstadt, Ph.D. author of History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier

“In this very personal and affecting account of his gradual discovery of the events of the Holocaust in the Ukraine Patrick Desbois, a French priest, gives us a widened perspective of the extraordinarily complex manipulation of the local population by the Nazis, who forcibly requisitioned Ukrainian citizens of all ages to assist in the killings. In village after village, more than 60 years after the horrific events, the inhabitants, many of whom had been children at the time, came forward to bear witness. From the many interviews in the text, it is clear that the personal trauma of forced involvement in the mass executions has never diminished. And indeed, the stories of what they saw takes one’s breath away. This is a significant addition to the history of the Holocaust that sheds new light on events in the Nazi occupied areas of the former USSR.” — Lynn H. Nicholas, author of Cruel World: The Children of Europe in the Nazi Web and The Rape of Europa: Europe’s Treasures in the Third Reich and the Second World War

“Prompted by compassion and intellectual curiosity, Father Desbois revisited the graves of a million and a half Ukrainian Jews, who were murdered during the German occupation. Combining archival sources and ballistic evidence with the voices of Ukrainian eyewitnesses, Father Desbois delivers a complete, harrowing account of what happened. This book is a triumph of historical exploration, deeply moving and profoundly disturbing.” — Nechama Tec, Holocaust Scholar, University of Connecticut in Stamford, and author of the National Jewish Book Award-winning: Resilience and Courage: Women, Men and the Holocaust and of Defiance: The Bielski Partisans

“Father Patrick Desbois gives a horrifying account of dimensions of the Holocaust until now undocumented. His Catholic faith, experiences of his own family, the support of the French bishops and the research capacities of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum are enabling him to carry out a work of discovery, of healing and reconciliation. This book is a striking contribution to Christian-Jewish relations. We owe him a debt of enormous proportions.” — Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I. Archbishop of Chicago

“[Desbois] is a human bridge between the modern Jewish world and the Catholic Church and a major conduit through which the Holocaust will be remembered.”–The Christian Science Monitor

“[T]his modest Roman Catholic priest from Paris, without using much more than his calm voice and Roman collar, has shattered the silence surrounding a largely untold chapter of the Holocaust when Nazis killed 1.5 million Jews in Ukraine from 1941 to 1944.” — The Chicago Tribune

          Product Description
‘In this heart-wrenching book, Father Patrick Desbois documents the daunting task of identifying and examining all the sites where Jews were exterminated by Nazi mobile units in the Ukraine in WWII. Using innovative methodology, interviews, and ballistic evidence, he has determined the location of many mass gravesites with the goal of providing proper burials for the victims of the forgotten Ukrainian Holocaust. Compiling new archival material and many eye-witness accounts, Desbois has put together the first definitive account of one of history’s bloodiest chapters.’

            Stanley K. Monteith, M.D.
“Only about a third of the civilians killed by the Nazis and their accomplices were Jews …Other peoples were marked out for decimation, subjugation, and enslavement, and the civilian losses of some of these (countries – Ed.) amounted to 11 per cent to 12 per cent of the total population.” 12
If Professor Cohn’s figures are accurate – and I feel certain that they are, because other Jewish researchers have come up with similar figures – then why haven’t the Christians of America been allowed to learn the fact that in addition to the 6 million Jews murdered by the Nazis, somewhere between 7 and 12 million non-Jews were also ruthlessly liquidated in Hitler’s Germany?
“I believe this information has been intentionally suppressed because those who were killed were largely Christians, and the covert forces which control the reality of the American public today do not want the followers of Jesus Christ in our nation to awaken to their peril …until it is far too late. Hitler hated not only Jews and Judaism, he also hated Christians and Christianity as well.,,,
“One has only to learn what really happened to the Christians in Rwanda between April and July of 1994 to imagine what may lie in store for Christians here in America at some time in the not-too-distant future….
“I personally believe that God expects each and every of us to become involved in the affairs of this world until He returns. Furthermore, I believe that all human life is sacred. We are told that Christians are to be the “salt and light of the world,” the preservative that keeps humanity from rotting. What is the Christian Church doing today to preserve the lives of the inhabitants of God’s earth; what are you doing to protect the lives of those who have been targeted by the forces of darkness?”

Genocide is non-discriminant . Of the 30 million Ukrainians killed by Stalin and Hitler, less than one third were Jews :
“Stalin imposed a famine-genocide, which took 10 million lives in 1932-33….
“Ukraine was the only country that fought a 3-front war during WW II: against Poland, against Germany and against Russia. Hitler retaliated by killing 20 (later boosted up to 100) innocent Ukrainian citizens for every soldier he lost and then he ordered them to be strung up from balconies to rot, a reminder to those who would want to help the partisans….
“Up to 30 million people are estimated by Western historians to have died between 1918 and 1956 in Stalinist repression, civil war, famine and collectivization, although the true figure may never be known.”

They worked their whole lives to have what the have and it was taken from them, lock , stock and barrel. One chicken farmer watched his 50+ years life work die daily because no one would deliver feed to him.

Another 5th generation Horse Breeder, had to give his colt up for adoption and leave their home, land and generational legacy behind.
The stories are so heartbreaking. WHY isn’t anyone making TEMPCO pay for this?

How do you repay a person for their life’s work and devotion? It is impossible. We have not seen the end of the suicides. I fear they will become more and more. You can only break people down so far before they completely give up. 🙁

Such a commune with nature they have/had, and now that love of land , their land, is gone.
That bond with the beautiful nature is destroyed. Such a HORROR.

You could easily be describing what has happened in Amerika for the last two years. Many, many people have lost everything they ever worked for in the housing crisis. They have been humiliated by having to declare bankruptcy. They have nothing left. Not even hope. And our government ignores the situation.

Add to that the millions of unemployed with no social programs in place to assist them (remember, capitalism for the poor, welfare for the rich). Families are strained to the maximum trying to care for relatives who have lost all.

I believe it is the government’s intention to break us down until we give up, and are willing to work for a pittance and live in slums, but they don’t realize that by and large, the people are stronger than they are. Their time will come.

Taking action on the west coast: I’m happy to hear some enenewsers here looking for anti-nuke action! Whoopie once posted here about a guy who’s doing really inspiring stuff – maybe you could contact him and set something up together?
As it’s hard to do something from scratch, it might be helpful to form a group with people already involved and known for making trouble 😉

    Have a look here:

Hey, thanks for the links…I checked out the website and put myself on their email list.

San Onofre is in S.Cal and I am in N.Cal, so unless there is something going on in this area I probably couldn’t make it. I don’t know the first thing about organizing something like this myself, but I would love to be more involved. I’ve sometimes thought it would be nice to get all the people on enenews in each area to organize protests…

        Hey westcoastgirl,
the San Onofre guy (Gary) did something great which would be suitable for the area around each nuke plant: he made “San Onofre evacuation route” signs and asked people to put them up next to the street on their private property. A lot of folks happily agreed, and nobody can take those signs down…
it doesn’t cost much (and I think many people would donate for the cost of the sign) and brings lots of publicity to the subject…

Towards a new economy – interesting work and food for thought:
“The New Economics Institute is a US organization that uniquely combines vision, theory, action, and communication to effect a transition to a new economy – an economy that gives priority to supporting human well-being and Earth’s natural systems. Our multidisciplinary approach employs research, applied theory, public campaigns, and educational events to describe an alternative socio-economic system that is capable of addressing the enormous challenges of our times. Our premise is that a fair and sustainable economy is possible and that ways must be found to realize it.”

“Thyroid follicle cells from various mammalian species incorporate 35-SO4(2-). Light and electron microscopic autoradiographs show that the Golgi complex is the predominant site of sulfate incorporation and that the secretory product accumulating in the follicle lumen is sulfated.”

“Mammalian thyroglobulin is released by thyroid follicle cells as a sulfated glycoprotein; the sulfate residues are mostly linked to tyrosine, but they are also attached to the high-mannose carbohydrate side-chains. To decide whether sulfation of thyroglobulin is confined to mammals, representatives of other vertebrate classes were analyzed for the presence of sulfated thyroglobulin: fish (trout), amphibians (clawed toad) and birds (chicken). Mini-organs were prepared from thyroid tissue and suspended in a 35SO4-(-)-containing culture medium. Light- and electron-microscope autoradiographs prepared from the mini-organs showed that thyroid follicle cells from all species examined incorporate 35SO4-(-) and synthesize a sulfated secretory product which accumulates in the follicle lumen. The Golgi complex was detected as the primary intracellular site of sulfate organification. The 35SO4-(-)-radiolabeled secretory product of all species was shown by polyacrylamide-gel-electrophoretic analyses to consist of thyroglobulin, identified by comparison with biosynthetically 125I-labeled thyroglobulin. The results indicate that the sulfation of thyroglobulin is a ubiquitous post-translational modification observed already in the thyroglobulin of lower vertebrates. Our observations suggest that sulfation of thyroglobulin was acquired in the early stages of thyroid evolution.sulfation of thyroglobulin in all vetebrates.doc”

    Tyrosine From Wikipedia,

    Other names[hide]2-Amino-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propanoic acid
    Molecular formula C9H11NO3
    Molar mass 181.19 g mol−1
    Solid, liquid, gas

“Tyrosine (abbreviated as Tyr or Y)[1] or 4-hydroxyphenylalanine, is one of the 20 amino acids that are used by cells to synthesize proteins. Its codons are UAC and UAU. It is a non-essential amino acid with a polar side group. The word “tyrosine” is from the Greek tyri, meaning cheese, as it was first discovered in 1846 by German chemist Justus von Liebig in the protein casein from cheese.[2][3] It is called tyrosyl when referred to as a functional group or side chain.”

Why I mention tyrosine? The 35 so4^2 sulphate incorporatates with the tyrosine and plays merry hell with the thyroid! 35so4^2 is the new iodine 131,, brilliant/sarcasm

“Aside from being a proteogenic amino acid, tyrosine has a special role by virtue of the phenol functionality. It occurs in proteins that are part of signal transduction processes. It functions as a receiver of phosphate groups that are transferred by way of protein kinases (so-called receptor tyrosine kinases). Phosphorylation of the hydroxyl group changes the activity of the target protein.

A tyrosine residue also plays an important role in photosynthesis. In chloroplasts (photosystem II), it acts as an electron donor in the reduction of oxidized chlorophyll. In this process, it undergoes deprotonation of its phenolic OH-group. This radical is subsequently reduced in the photosystem II by the four core manganese clusters.

[edit] Dietary sourcesTyrosine, which can also be synthesized in the body from phenylalanine, is found in many high protein food products such as soy products, chicken, turkey, fish, peanuts, almonds, avocados, milk, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, lima beans, pumpkin seeds, and sesame seeds.[4] Tyrosine can also be obtained through supplementation.”
so this ionising particle gets into plants as well as animals…maybe causing problems with photosynthesis too?
Heres a cut and paste from an article with a bit more info….. Tangentially anyway!

“Radiogenic 35 S SO4, which is deposited from the atmosphere and has a half-life of 87 days, was used to calculate the fraction of “new” SO 4 in spring and stream water.”
Well if I am reading this right, this stuff sticks around 10 times as long as iodine! Nice/sarcasm

    And now for some quotes
“Professor Francis Livens, Professor of Radiochemistry, University of Manchester, comments:

“The term ‘neutron leakage’ used by the authors of this study may be misinterpreted by the general reader. The sulphur-35 that was detected is likely to have been generated in seawater (used as emergency cooling water in the reactors) by neutrons from spontaneous nuclear fission and nuclear absorption of alpha-particles – continuing nuclear fission chain reactions (the normal source of energy in a reactor) are not necessary to produce this level of neutrons. The paper represents a useful tracer experiment, but the sulphur-35 levels are low and of no radiological significance.”
    And this
“Prof Jim Smith, Professor in Environmental Physics, University of Portsmouth, comments:

“The amounts of S-35 detected in the U.S. are tiny and are of no significance to human health. Even at Fukushima, the paper predicts only about 18 mBq of S-35 per cubic metre of air – many thousands of times lower than air concentrations of the much more important radiocaesium and radioiodine typically measured in the Fukushima region after the accident.”
    And this
“Professor Paddy Regan, Professor of Nuclear Physics, University of Surrey, comments:

“This is an interesting paper which basically shows that neutrons produced in the core of the Fukushima reactors following their emergency shutdown (likely mostly beta-delayed neutrons from the fission fragments and some of the natural fission ones) interacted with specific material in the seawater (a naturally occurring isotope – Chlorine-35) which was used to cool the reactor down in the absence the normal water cooling (since the pumps were knocked out). This created the radioactive form of sulphur, (sulphur-35 or 35S). It needs to be noted that this radioisotope is also continuously created naturally from cosmic ray bombardments on the atmosphere. It is a useful ‘tracer’ nucleus because of its relatively short half-life (just under three months) which is short enough to be able identify / deduce where any increase source of this material have come from.

“The fact that the increased amount of 35S was seen for a few days in California following the airborne releases from Fukushima can be used to show the wind currents and speeds across the pacific ocean. This is very interesting from a scientific point of view, but people should certainly NOT read into it any radiation health scare in California from Fukushima. The levels were certainly increased and the sensitivity of the equipment showed that increase very clearly. However, the overall levels of this type of radiation compared to natural background are tiny and they pose no health risk. Also, the date shows (as expected), a spike in the increased 35S level followed by the expected decrease to approximate background levels over a few days.”
    And this
“Professor Steve Jones, independent nuclear and environmental consultant, comments:

“Seawater used to cool the cores will have been exposed to a flux of neutrons sufficient to produce S-35, which will have been released to the environment in the same way as other radionuclides that have contaminated the seawater. Neutrons have not ‘leaked from the core’ – they would be present in any event along with the gamma, beta and alpha radiation from the fuel elements (which is of course why the core is heavily shielded). Quite possibly, other radioactive isotopes may have been produced by neutron activation of stable elements in the seawater, but most will have short half-lives and will not have persisted for long enough to be detected in the environment.”
    And this little beauty
“Anthony Waker, NSERC/UNENE Industrial Research Chair in Health Physics and Environmental Safety, University of Ontario Institute of Technology comments:

    Is the paper significant?

“I think as far as atmospheric modelling goes, it’s quite significant. It’s an experiment they were suddenly able to do, so they did. The Oceanographic Institute was measuring sulphur anyway, because SO4 aerosol is a useful trace to study how the atmosphere and ocean work together. Suddenly, there was this event at Fukushima that released a lot of it, and it’s not often that you get a point event, something they could use to check their models. So they measured this stuff and used models to trace back to what they think was released at Fukushima.

One thing to note is they’re not coming from a radiological perspective. They’re really saying something about how SO4 interacts with the boundary layers of the atmosphere, which is significant in itself, but they don’t make any attempt at a radiological assessment.

What – if any – biological effects do these numbers suggest?

“I’ve done a few calculations here, and radiologically, they derived a number of sulphur atoms per metre cubed of air, and then back-estimated. From that, knowing the half-life of S35, I can calculate the activity of S35 per metre cubed [in California] and I derive a value of 0.00126 becquerels per cubic metre, where a becquerel is one instance of radioactive decay. The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has a radiation safety data sheet on S-35, on the annual limit of intake. The amount you could take into your body to arrive at a dose limit of 20 millisieverts. this translates to 200 million becquerels of S35.

“However, the limit for a member of the public is only 1 millisievert per year.

“So if you take that number and divide by 20, you come to 10 million becquerels, that you could take in to arrive at that 1 millisievert.

“If you take the concentration in California: [during light work, a person breathes] about 0.02 metres cubed [of air] per minute. Multiply that number by 0.00126 and my sums come out to 2.52 x10*-5 becquerels per minute.

“If that’s the rate of intake, per minute, then we would need to breathe that for about 3.9 x 10*11 minutes, and that is roughly 700,000 years.”
    From this link

sounds like the scientists are having fun now that they can plot the safe movements of these particles…now did they miss anything like mentioning the very large half life (not for public knowledge) and bioaccumulation? No I didn’t think so….odd that, looks like there reading from a script!
“The Oceanographic Institute was measuring sulphur anyway, because SO4 aerosol is a useful trace to study how the atmosphere and ocean work together. Says it all really…more funding for study…in a recession… we were so happy we urinated on ourselves….thank you fuku!…….tossers! but clever tossers though! There is some useful info here that we might come to the overall perspective! And we know that for 3 more years milk etc will be off the menu.! What about leafy vegetables? I hear you say! Merde! You heard me say!
Please feel free to correct any of my presumptions here,, I admit to being a little out of my depth here! It would take a good looking genius lik the gundieman to sort this out….WAIT!… it a bird?….is it a plane! No it’s the gundesmaine!!!!!! Lol!!
But seriously! We have had these sulphate emmeissions since the beginning, since everyone noticed the “pollen” since the above scientists noticed their toy tracer! The fallout strength has varied and it hit some places more than others….wonder if the scientist could tell us where the hot spots for sulphur and other stuff mixed with it….but they wont!! But they do know as described by the conversation above/novel

its already happening on the blog scene (as predicted after the funding was verified recently one million dollars to watch the anti nuclear chaps and chapses and ……..?)
but ive gotta feeling that even these bloggers will see the writing on the wall so to speak!

look at the headlines and revelations coming out of japan! and the citizen testing that busts the governments claims, enough at least to make people think that maybe this is one of the biggest stories ever!

encompassing nuclear, PR, financial, privatised healthcare, the media (except for the young turks ;), oil, electric, water utilities, web companies, shareholders, futures markets and generally the elites large reserves of money…..bit of a story there maybe?

not to mention the disaster itself! tsunami and meltdowns (melt throughs? or elvis has left the building?) oh yeh and “double speak” how do they get away with that? not little men in the moon controling thier thoughts and actions maybe? err moving swiftly on!

i think they are scared, on the back foot. the people who work for the system are gradually realising (like the london rioters) that the financial system has really screwed them! and it hasnt got as bad as its going to get! more screwed to come! these pro nuke campaigners have children too! and if the penny isnt dropping now, it surely will!

now thats pessamistic of me! and i cant even spell pesamistic! so im going to bed comforted by microsoft word checker that i didnt use here! nice bed time rant that! thanks 1984 🙂

There is a growing grass roots resistance movement gathering right now rallying citizens against the power companies, which are not only polluting the general environment with Nuclear Power Plant ionizing radiation emissions, they are targeting everyone’s home with non safety certified & illegal (not UL approved) radio surveillance transmitting devices called “SmartMeters”.

Although we are currently focusing on the immediate need of preventing the forced installation of these wickedly intrusive and electrically hazardous devices, my personal agenda includes making people aware of the extreme danger we are facing with Fuku and other NPP’s. Indeed I often wonder from visiting ENEnews if it is not already too late. I am not sure if the point of no return from certain extinction has not already been reached! I can only say for sure that where there is life there is hope. I have a few aches and pains but I’m still alive.

This photo shot at the above link was taken at our local courthouse I affectionately call “The Abomination from hell” located here in Santa Cruz, California. The place is world infamous as being one of the ugliest and most diabolically designed electrosmog ridden government buildings on the planet. When it went up back in 1968 we thought it would be a great candidate for a movie set as the “Ministry of Truth” in the yet to be produced George Orwell classic “1984”. They tried to cover up the generally drab and foreboding appearance of the place by planting some redwood trees and shrubbery around it, but as you can see, that wasn’t able to make much of a dent in the generally smothering oppressiveness the place exudes.

That’s me in the black cap, 4th protester from the left.

Anyway, now and then I speak up about the continuing danger from disaster at Fukushima with the latest ENEnews updates and my personal daily Geiger counter readings. Like many of y’all I get a lot of blank stares in return, but I try not to let that bother me.

A couple of Fridays ago, we as a group of 20 or so actually converged on the Sheriff’s office on the 3rd floor of the dark interior of the Abomination from Hell. Our spokesman Josh asked their deputy representative to please enforce the local ordinance against Smartmeters, instead of helping and enabling the continuing installations, and arresting us instead for standing in the way of their vehicles, but nothing has really changed yet… Our next moves? Recall of the Sheriff, possibly massive class action Lawsuits against PG&E who are not very popular here in CA, what with the Hinckley Groundwater Contamination and Mass Poisonings etc.

Please visit our protest site at:

I am also Smokin’Aces on the “Skeptoid” Blog where there are many willing guinea pigs just aching to be experimented on by their local power companies:
