A 300-ton reactor vessel bound for Plant Vogtle was stranded briefly in south Georgia this week after a malfunction with the specially designed rail car moving the nuclear component from Savannah to Burke County.
“The platform that contained the RV (reactor vessel) during transport became misaligned with the Schnabel railcar, so the railcar stopped immediately,” said Georgia Power Co. spokesman Mark Williams. “The platform and car were re-aligned the same day and safely returned to the port.” [...]
There was no damage to the reactor vessel or to the rail car, Williams said [...]

"A 300-ton reactor vessel bound for Plant Vogtle was stranded briefly in south Georgia this week after a malfunction with the specially designed rail car.." Wow it just fell off. Gee you would think they would check the load before moving the train. And, "There was no damage to the reactor vessel or to the rail car, Williams said" Really? 300 tons falls off a train and nothing get's damaged? sweet

That's some wonderfully advanced technology we have there.

It's an instrument of destruction.

No damage to the reactor vessel… That's a shame!
Only a dead reactor vessel is a good reactor vessel.
Report Comment
Any cracks can be readily repaired with duct tape. A technique they learned from Fukushima.

Shhh! Stop spreading harmful rumor!

When 300 tons falls over, something gets warped or flawed.
But who cares, it's just a reactor vessel. Avoid damage to the bank account. /sarc.

'Mitsuhiko Tanaka says he helped conceal a manufacturing defect in the $250 million steel vessel installed at the Fukushima Dai-Ichi No. 4 reactor while working for a unit of Hitachi Ltd. (6501) in 1974. The reactor, which Tanaka has called a “time bomb,” was shut for maintenance when the March 11 earthquake triggered a 7-meter (23-foot) tsunami that disabled cooling systems at the plant, leading to explosions and radiation leaks.'

Follow the bouncing reactor vessel and sing along…..

LOL, what the devil do you expect, Dos? There is a Flying Pig at the top of the page, so a Sing Along must follow the bouncing NUCLEAR CONTAINMENT VESSEL!

The reactor vessel for Unit#4 at Fukushima was cracked before it was ever used. Now unit #4 is threatening to destroy the whole earth permanently. It is not a good idea to use this reactor vessel that has fallen off the train. Nuclear industry, please wake up.

They probably dropped that one on the way to, shhh, don't tell anyone.

I was with a friend once when an 18 foot boat we were towing slipped of the trailer and was sitting in the middle of the road … very embarrassing momenet … they must feel atomically embarrassed !

Once a vehicle or a reactor vessel has been in a collision it will never operate like new.
The 'RISK' of future failure has just increased. (again)
The building of Nuclear Plants in Georgia needs to be stopped.
This is like a test of the will of the people vs the will of the few. Sitting back and allowing these monstrosities to be built is ultimately going to kill our planet.
Think of how many windmills, or whatever, could have been built with the money already spent on this debacle of death.

Unfortunately, ChasAha, the "will of the people" is primarily to channel surf and do the shopping mall shuffle. If enough people gave a hot damn about any of the damage being done by corporations run amok and governments bent on domination there would be a sea change in the status quo by sunup tomorrow.

I know the admin has no control over the ads that pop up on this site, but the proliferation of pro-nuke ads makes it obvious that ENENews is being automatically targeted by the nuclear industry.
Example:
Nuclear Power is Cleaner
songscommunity.com/clean
Nuclear power is clean. Virtually no CO2 emissions at San Onofre
News Flash: San Onofre NPP collapses, but not to worry! No CO2 emissions have been detected. (And as soon as we disable the radiation monitors, no radioactivity will be detected either!)
