Record levels of Fukushima radiation detected off West Coast — Massive plume stretches for more than 1,000 miles — Reuters: Contamination is spreading off U.S. shores — Radioactive cesium reaches 11 Bq/m3 at multiple locations (MAP)

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Dec 3, 2015 (emphasis added): Higher levels of Fukushima cesium detected offshore — Scientists monitoring the spread of radiation in the ocean from the Fukushima nuclear accident report finding an increased number of sites off the US West Coast showing signs of contamination from Fukushima. This includes the highest detected level to date from a sample collected about 1,600 miles west of San Francisco. The level of radioactive cesium isotopes in the sample, 11 Becquerel’s per cubic meter… is 50 percent higher than other samples collected along the West Coast so far… Working with Japanese colleagues, [Ken Buesseler, a WHOI marine radiochemist] also continues to independently monitor the ongoing leaks from Fukushima Dai-ichi by collecting samples… During his most recent trip this October they collected samples of ocean water, marine organisms, seafloor sediment and groundwater along the coast near the reactors. Buesseler says the levels of radioactivity off Fukushima remain elevated – some 10 to 100 times higher than off the US West Coast today, and he is working with colleagues at WHOI to try to determine how much radioactive material is still being released to the ocean each day.

Ken Buesseler, WHOI: “These new data are important for two reasons… the changing values underscore the need to more closely monitor contamination levels across the Pacific. Second, these long-lived radioisotopes will serve as markers for years to come for scientists studying ocean currents and mixing in coastal and offshore waters… [F]inding values that are still elevated off Fukushima confirms that there is continued release from the plant.”

Statesman Journal, Dec 3, 2015: Higher levels of Fukushima radiation detected off West Coast — Higher levels of radiation from Japan’s 2011 Fukushima nuclear accident are showing up in the ocean off the west coast of North America, scientists from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution reported today. And an increased number of sampling sites are showing signs of contamination… This year, Buesseler has added about 110 new sample results to 135 already on the project’s web site. They include the highest detected level to date, from a sample collected about 1,600 miles west of San Francisco.

Reuters, Dec 3, 2015: Radiation from Japan nuclear disaster spreads off U.S. shores… and contamination is increasing at previously identified sites… Tests of hundreds of samples of Pacific Ocean water confirmed that Japan’s Fukushima nuclear power plant continues to leak… The latest readings measured the highest radiation levels outside Japanese waters to date some 1,600 miles (2,574 km) west of San Francisco. The figures also confirm that the spread of radiation to North American waters is not isolated to a handful of locations, but can be detected along a stretch of more than 1,000 miles (1,600 km) offshore.

What is the ratio of elements being released by the melted reactors ? If they found 11bq/m3 of cesium then there are other elements present in given quantities ? Because CS does not travel alone.

Nobody will receive grant monies for the studies that will never be done; you know the ones that postulate that DU drives hominids insane.

    No way.

Yet, I will go to my grave knowing that our warring ways killed us all.

We were too timid to wage peace. Instead we droned on and expected folks to like us.

    Doesn't work that way.

They found chunks of plutonium scattered in the country side miles away from the site. There was definitely mox fuel in my opinion.

      • And those did not come from the gargantuan blast from unit three then? We all know three was running MOX at the time in unit three… but forget that, presumption is far stronger than truth these days, so a couple folks presume MOX was going into unit four to further some agenda and we all just have to get on the bandwagon and parrot their presumptions as truth. Why this MOX in four issue is gaining legs is not too clear yet but i guess it has to do with some other hidden truth about those reactors they need a cover for.

        • GOM GOM

Alan.. That gargantuan blast was the spent fuel pool. R4 is a hoax. See above.

          • You have no idea what caused that blast. And attributing it to the SFP is a curious deed. Hefty events occurred at unit three, I have seen no end of bullshit thrown into our paths on the unit three explosion, We will get to the bottom of it on way or another. What transpired and what did or did not happen will become known.

        • Also… How many reactors run MOX? What if Fukushima revealed a serious danger to using mixed oxide fuels that they will do anything to hide? A fundamental flaw overlooked or even intentionally hidden to allow the #3 unit to blow up as it did. I think it is safe to say the serious dangers of Fukushima are from unit #3 and it's explosion because of the enhanced Plutonium levels. Was this on purpose? I would have to say yes. Was it calculated? Again i will say yes. All 56 plants in Japan are suspect because of the locations there constructed. So many levels of the precautionary principal were violated at every step of Japan's nuclear program it's hard not to think that disaster was the intended result. Not moving the CSFSU away from the site of 3 meltdowns will prove to be a serious intent to contaminate. Unfortunately Fukushima is far from being done with humanity and our ecosystem. Events are coming from that power plant that will force the issue of complacency directly into every human face if left to THEM to sort out. One has to PROVE their willingness to help or be seen as part of the problem by default. Someone is working very hard to do as much damage as is possible to the human populous. I suggest a hefty dose of retaliation for that malicious intent. We are doomed if we let TEPCO continue to call the shots and Japan to keep their butts covered over with secret this and secret that.

Hi Alan – from your post @ 3.18pm
"So there is no proof of a mox assembly in unit #4 just a bunch of hersay them… I see. I will stick with the truth."

Maybe I have misinterpreted, but I read you as saying:

"So there is no proof of a mox assembly in unit #4 just a bunch of hearsay then… I see. I will stick with the truth."

      The latter I agree with.

      • I will not ever claim to be a crack typist. Sorry if i mess up sometimes. I don't think i have seen any credible proof of MOX being in unit four. I could be wrong. I have seen a whole lot of deception about events of all four reactors, That said hearsay is not proof and even good sounding info needs credibility and truth to ride in the car with it if it's going to help us. Our forum here is continually under fire from deceptive well poisoners. They come to soil the work we try to do. A smart person sees this and uses it to comb through the muck and snag the reality.

        • Angela_R

Alan, maybe I need to revisit those early days at Fukushima, but to me I saw the workers there as crying out for help, I did not see them as lying.

However, I did feel that to placate those that could not accept, they were forced to temper down their statements.

Personally I do believe you have reality here, but there are many that do not wish to accept it.

Maybe some believe in miracles. What do others offer them?

How can any deny them of HOPE?

    • penny penny

I apologize in advance if this sounds dismissive, but isn't this the most important thing to focus on: how to fix this mess? Regardless of which unit did what, the Pacific is dead and the rest of the planet is dying, and nuclear *must* be shut down and cleaned up. There is a vast grey space between seeking wisdom and seeking information, but right now, we have all the information we need to know that we have not been wise. Enough information to motivate us to find a way forward.

Fascinating though the details may be, at this point they are a dangerous distraction.

      • CodeShutdown CodeShutdown

hi penny. I dont agree. The world is in the dark about Fukushima and radiation in general.

The difference between 3 vs 4 meltdowns/explosions is huge. There were some 14000 Hiroshima bombs worth of potential fallout sitting in the spent fuel pool of unit 4. Dismissing the events wont help anything.

Neither science nor public seem to know why the measured amounts of radiation are dangerous, so thats a pretty big problem too.

I guess I'm of two minds on this point, and it's not the kind of thing that's worth getting into a debate about (speaking for myself).

As for those bugs, Let them eat burnt cake! 🙂

        • And don't forget the many thousands more Hiroshima bombs worth sitting on deck just meters away from all that messy blown up shit… The Common Spent Fuel Storage Unit is primed and waiting to get the rad party going at full volume if we let it burn… If YOU let it burn… They let it burn. Seems the will to survive Fukushima is in short supply because nobody is informed or is ill informed. Many have become dead already and still the cover is firmly in place here in North America. The CSFSU will blow that to the moon once it's death is wafting all around the northern hemisphere. Do nothing and die. Say nothing and DIE. That's the plan THEY have for you. I would get to do and say as much as you can…. Because YOUR life depends on it.

          • penny penny

Yes, Alan, that was more or less my point – that we need to be out in the real world speaking up, more than in here debating. There has to be a balance, of course. And everyone has their role, or their comfort zone, and their own need to know. It just worries me that so many of these discussions about what happened, etc., turn into name-calling virtual brawls. Divide-and-Conquer is the most useful tool in the psychopath's kit.

      Hey Wendy why suffer?

I've had some request, so I just made this life extender video today for folks to get a better handle on the most important things needed to do in making this recipe right and easy.

Disclaimer> this does not cure Cancer, it kills the Fungus that's living off the dead cells that got Radioactive element Becquerel discharge bombarded continually for a Fungus to move in and live off the dead cells and sugars.

There is no cure for Cancer, because man made Radioactive elements are everywhere in everything…meaning Cancer is a none stoppable recurring phenomena relative to radioactive elements a person is exposed to.

In this video I miss spoke saying I had Pancreas Cancer…meaning to say "Thyroid"
I've had Colon, liver, Thyroid Cancers over the years now @ 74 I'm still riding because of this simple recipe.

Still alive soon to be 75 yr old, the body is beat the Hell up, but my brain over rides all that shit.

Begin a moratorium on nuclear power plant license renewals in the United States. Bernie believes that solar, wind, geothermal power and energy efficiency are proven and more cost-effective than nuclear – even without tax incentives – and that the toxic waste byproducts of nuclear plants are not worth the risks of the technology’s benefit. Especially in light of lessons learned from Japan’s Fukushima meltdown, Bernie has also raised questions about why the federal government invests billions into federal subsidies for the nuclear industry. We can have an affordable carbon-free, nuclear-free energy system and we must work for a safe, healthy future for all Americans. -Bernie Sanders-

    • RattleShark RattleShark

It is refreshing to see a politician say the word "Fukushima" , i hope that forces others to discuss the meltdowns publicly.

    • CodeShutdown CodeShutdown

Did Sanders mention Fukushima? It appears that the only way nuclear will end is if the corporations run out of subsidies and rate hikes. The anti nukers are unable to counter the pro nuke propaganda and the comparison to background is a huge one.

Just remember, its not the science that matters, just repeat "nuclear creates mutant retarded babies"

Focus on the poison. So if they say Fukushima didnt kill anyone, come back with the fact that theres enough nuclear poison from Fukushima to kill everyone on the planet. They will say it diluted, to which you answer; make no mistake nuclear is killing our children and women

trying to argue scientifically is apparently a dead end

      • RattleShark RattleShark

Follow my link , Sanders calls to end nuke subsidies , end nuke license extensions , my post above is copied from Sanders clean energy plan , he mentions Fuku meltdown.

  • Nick

"In a speech that coincided with the loan guarantee announcements, President Obama pledged his support for the construction of a new generation of nuclear power plants. “To meet our growing energy needs and prevent the worst consequences of climate change, we’ll need to increase our supply of nuclear power,” the president said to the crowd gathered at the headquarters of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Lanham, Md."

Note this is pre-Fukushima, but it points to Obama "believing" in nuclear as we go forward.

No wonder the SILENCE re Fukushima.

  • Ok boom X3…. get over it. Stopping the next one is more important. Fukushima is not played out by a long shot. They still have a 5600 PLUS ton pool of death just sitting there aimed at your head.

  • If there just happened to be 2800 1 ton sharks swimming at the local beach would anyone still go swimming? How about 3400 hungry tigers at the local park… you willing to let little Johnny or Jill go and fly a kite? Wake up! Fukushima is YOUR problem to fix… Japan is proved to be unwilling and it is your ass if you fail to get the CSFSU into a safer location with a system to protect your children from it's tons of death….. or just go out and shop till you drop.
