Radiation in Japan: Greenpeace Detected Cobalt-60 and High Radiation “Hot Spots” in Fukushima City in Fukushima, EX-SKF, June 20, 2011:
Very rough, partial translation of the Shukan Gendai (June 24 Issue) article follows:
Fukushima City [60 kilometers from Fukushima meltdown, pop. 290,000 people] is in danger
Extremely high radiation detected
Our urgent, special report revealsMore than 10 times the radiation limit. Even cobalt-60 was detected. Children should be evacuated immediately, but the government says nothing, pretending not to know anything [...]
[Seiichi Nakate, head of the Fukushima Network to Protect Children from Radiation] did his own measurement before the surface soil removal started at Watari Junior High. The soil around the warehouse near the parking lot measured 360 microsieverts/hour.
This time, the survey team measured the soil after the surface soil removal. It was till 45 microsieverts/hour, about 12 times the limit. [...]

Could the author tell us exactly what all the results were…?
10 times over the limit in fukushima…
Tokyo got half of that… (5times over).
Seattle got half of what tokyo got… (2.5 times over).
Seattle is 2.5 times over the limit… I’m guessing this does not only apply to just cobalt…
Also is this 10 times over the insanely high limit?

That’s if you believe the official figures, which I don’t.

If you want to try a cool experiment at home…
1.Take a 5 gallon bucket…2.catch the rain water… (this will also work if you have water that collected already outside)…3.Put a gold fish in the bucket, also a snail (it will leach the mildew).
4.See how long they live… 5.extra credit. U stream and record your findings, document the entire thing via web blog… If it kills the fish, thats a good indication to stay out of the rain…

Sorry Taco, but this time you have really become ridiculous.
I have previously not criticized you and your often wild pseudo-scientific proclamations (because some have been reasonable).
However you are now WAY over the top with your “goldfish in a bucket”.
“Leach the mildew” (the snail). OMG.
Total nonsense. A water snail might eat algae, but never “mildew”.
And you have forgotten to feed your goldfish, so it would die of starvation, long before radiation got to it.
BTW I kept and bred goldfish for many years, albeit in ponds, not a bucket.
I note that you copy and paste a lot of your “scientific stuff” Taco, but when you let loose on your own stuff – goldfish ffs – it is just histrionic nonsense.
Fukushima is, without doubt, exactly what rational people say it is, e.g. Arnie Gundersen.
There is no need of you Taco, nor HAARP and other totally unscientific scare-mongers.
Yes Fukushima probably marks a signicant continuation of life-extinction … a dramatic episode in the pollution of this planet since the Industrial Revolution began.
In that sense, Fukushima is nothing new.
I knew all this since I was little more than a child and when, in England, I saw one of the first nuclear power stations being built at Dungeness.

Tacoma is right about a lot of things. And she is practical – which is very important in this situation.
Also, pay attention to what is happening arround: At work, one of my colleagues who plays tennis all the time is tired, another one lives close to a cement plant (more dust) and is now caughing continuosly and will see a doctor and another one has big sores on her lips from eating California greens.

My spiritual revelation read says:
There is no pure reason for the non-harmonised;
Nor for the non-harmonised is there concentration;
For one without concentration there is no peace;
And for the unpeaceful how can there be happiness?
If there is no happiness, the Jap doc says radiation is sure to be deadly, so he meant at least…
As far as concentration goes, the human being works at the rate of 1000 Megawatts per square kilometer but the nukes give negative energy and power to the society outside of the nuke cult.
And then the cumulative effect of all these is more dams and quakes and clime change so the water needs are met in modern civilisation…understand now at least why god created trees…
CobaLT-60 AND 250 others or 400 others created by man infinitely more than the natural… death- extinction comes as the end…its so difficult if not impossible for God to move the soul from the dead to the about to be born because the birth may not be healthy..Stop nukes NOW and entomb them. Fascinating link from the UK, check out this statement:
“a joint paper to Sage from the Office of Nuclear Regulation, the Met Office, the HPA and Rimnet stated: “The mechanism that could lead to a serious release remains unchanged, ie molten fuel coming into contact with the concrete base of a pond or reactor causing an explosion.”
and…
“A fear raised in one document was that spent fuel rods might overheat, melt and slump to the bottom of their storage pools where enough could gather to “go critical”, that is, restart nuclear reactions. The likely result of that, the paper states, would be releases of fresh radioactive material, “which could continue for some time”.

The UK has well-proven criteria for taking protective measures in the event of a serious radioactive release. . evacuation (best carried out before the plume arrives)”

and micro is a millionth that’s 1,000,000th.
So 360 micro Sv / h = 0.36 milli Sv / h
After about 3,000 hours (or 4 & 1/2 weeks) that would equal 1 Sievert. 1 Sievert of radiation leaves a person with a 50/50 chance of surviving in the short term if they get medical treatment. If they survive, their life will be short and miserable.
While someone lying down on that ground for over 4 weeks is not likely, it does illustrate how badly contaminated it is. Obviously if a kid breaths that playground dust in, then that contamination will keep radiating them for life. That is a disaster in a playground.

The workers are among some 3,700 who worked to control the disaster in March, the month the plant was struck by the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami.
The workers’ names were listed in records showing that they had been loaned dosimeters, but when the plant’s operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO), contacted the companies they were associated with, the companies replied that there was no record of those workers.”

Wowza!! ***Dr. Mark Sircus bearer of tragic radiation news
Sunday, the prestigious Doctor Mark Sircus released a new report concurring with a host of scientists and other doctors giving evidence that people of Japan and United States have been subjected to dangerous levels of radiation since Fukushima nuclear plant meltdowns, and also subjected to a tight cover-up by authorities and media, the result of which will be millions of baby deaths and new cancer victims. Japanese and American children are already suffering with symptoms that appear to be the first signs of Radiation Sickness.
“Finally, three months later, we are getting some numbers on what the real dangers are. And finally we can begin to understand the enormous cover-up of the nuclear doom that is reaching lungs all over the west coast of America, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii and at least half of Japan!” stated Dr. Mark Sircus. ***

I developed several systems that would remove the fallout from water. But, in 1993 our equipment could not handle water above 109 degrees F. and we had to use heat exchangers to keep in range. What levels of remediation would be acceptable for tourists and still provide safety.
Loosing the Japanese Onsen would truely be loosing something precious.

rognosis is initially estimated by the time between exposure and symptoms, the severity of those symptoms, and by the lymphocyte count during the initial 24 to 72 h.
Ionizing radiation is emitted by radioactive elements and by equipment such as x-ray and radiation therapy machines.
Types of radiation: Radiation includes
High-energy electromagnetic waves (x-rays, gamma rays)
Particles (alpha particles, beta particles, neutrons)
Alpha particles are energetic helium nuclei emitted by some radionuclides with high atomic numbers (eg, plutonium, radium, uranium); they cannot penetrate skin beyond a shallow depth ( 2 cm), where they collide with the nuclei of stable atoms, resulting in emission of energetic protons, alpha and beta particles, and gamma radiation.
Gamma radiation and x-rays are electromagnetic radiation (ie, photons) of very short wavelength that can penetrate deeply into tissue (many centimeters). While some photons deposit all their energy in the body, other photons of the same energy may only deposit a fraction of their energy and others may pass completely through the body without interacting.
Because of these characteristics, alpha and beta particles cause the most damage when the radioactive atoms that emit them are within the body (internal contamination) or, in the case of beta-emitters, directly on the body; only tissue in close proximity to the radionuclide is affected. Gamma rays and x-rays can cause damage distant from their source and are typically responsible for acute radiation syndromes (ARS—see Radiation Exposure and Contamination: Acute Radiation Syndromes [ARS]).

June 20 (Bloomberg) — John Price, a principal at Integrity Partners Inc., discusses the outlook for nuclear energy regulation as the International Atomic Energy Agency begins a closed-doors inquiry on the Fukushima Dai-Ichi crisis. The United Nations nuclear agency’s decision to hold talks about the Fukushima disaster behind closed doors this week ignores the “blindingly obvious” need for greater transparency, said a former official in the U.K. atomic industry.
“People deserve openness from the industry and its regulators,” Malcolm Grimston, a former information officer at the U.K.’s Atomic Energy Authority who is a London-based policy adviser at Chatham House, said in a June 17 interview. “It is blindingly obvious that greater transparency is needed.”

Should US West Coast residents be worried?
While people like Arnie Gundersen have tiptoed the answer to whether west coasters should be worried about Fukushima fallout, Dr. Sircus answered more bluntly:
“I am afraid I will have to be brutally honest and be the bearer of really terrible news. The information coming out about hot particle concentrations near Fukushima, Tokyo, and now Seattle tell us that not only should all those populations be worrying but their governments should have been issuing evacuation orders months ago.”
“Because of the jet stream in April, after the large explosions that destroyed three reactor buildings, it was as dangerous in Seattle and much of the west coast of North America as in Tokyo.” (Emphasis added)
According to Dr. Sircus, the average Tokyo resident is thought to have inhaled 10 “hot particles” per day throughout April 2011. Inhabitants of Fukushima were estimated to have inhaled 30-40 times more than that—up to 400 hot particles per day every day that month.
In Seattle, WA, it is estimated that the average person absorbed five “hot particles” per day during April 2011, or 10 “hot particles” per day if athletes working out.
“These invisible atomic particles become lodged in your lungs, intestines, bone or muscle.”
