Mr. Shimizu, an expert on local animals comments on the beetles found in [...] The bugs were collected in Ibaraki Prefecture at Ushiku city (translation by Fukushima Diary):

  • Because of chromosomal abnormality, you often see the stag beetle of right/left half body as different sex, but I never expected such a one of male head with female body exists [middle], I was rather shocked
  • You can’t see it more than once in a life
  • Probably this is the first discovery of the stag beetle that has separated sex such clearly
