Tweet: On this morning’s NHK “Sunday Debate” program, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary-General Nobuteru Ishihara stated, “Geiger counters costing between 40,000 and 50,000 yen ($500-600) provide patchy measurements. We have to try and stop citizens from taking their own radiation measurements.” It seems that he really doesn’t like the fact that citizens are taking their own radiation readings. Even if the figures are patchy, the measurements still tell us correctly whether the radiation level is high or low.

Tweet: Ishihara Junior stated in the Sunday discussion of NHK: “That citizens measure here and there with cheap Geigercounters (that offer loose numerical values) has to be stopped!”.

Tweet: In the Sunday discussion on NHK, the secretary general of the liberal democratic party, Ishihara said: “Citizens have instruments to measure radiation and take measurements (without prop maintenance). I will stop that ”

what? So your going to be sacked for running around with a Geiger counter in the near future? Or even owning one will be a reason for imprisonment? They are really struggling to keep “the low-lives” under control eh?

To some extent (great)religion has failed the masses….most live in religious bubbles.
The religious leaders of this world have failed the masses…PURPOSELY..turning the people’s minds from science, etc.
Century after century humans fight over the fight over the “correct” vision of God…or even if there is one.
          HUMANS KILL over it…
There is no room in the minds of the people for fresh ideas.
Humans align themselves with these ideas (religious and political) and call that identity…until we arrive at someone like Rick Perry..
          Now it’s all covered….lol.

Governments test and project their actions on Sunday morning television. They float trial balloons, they test ideas, they test there ways of “selling” their ideas.

No doubt this is a case of either preselling the idea of banning “loose radiation measuring devices” or testing for public backlash against them.

It’s clear they are going to go after anything that allows the public to get real information about the nuclear accident. They simply do not understand that in a vacuum of information, people will create their own and act on it.

The alternative would be to put out the real information about the accident, the real information about their chosen actions and engage in a dialogue – however they know the dialogue would soon end up ugly, so they are avoiding that option, and possibly don’t have a choice about it.

Governments have gotten into the bad habit of trying to manipulate the information and the “truth” in order to change the outcome of events.

I call this the “Baghdad Bob” syndrome.

It has worked successfully on all kinds of events for a long time, but rhetoric and reality have been separating for awhile. Eventually you have an event which overwhelms the rhetoric and the whole charade gets blown open. In other words it works well right up to the point where it doesn’t. You do not want to be the one in charge when that happens – because that’s when the guns and guillotines come out.

    Because the leaders very quickly…

    Report comment

  • James2

… realize that it’s continue the rhetoric or face guns and guillotines, it becomes a “fight to the death” struggle. And therefore before you get there, you get some nasty public censorship policies – which get nastier and nastier as it plays out.

So this action is neither unusual or unpredictable – it’s an act of self-preservation. What it really gauges is how dire the situation really is.

Yes! Did anybody watch a part of the Republican debate last night? FWIW, I could never, ever vote for Perry, who pushed Gardasil, an STD vaccine on young girls. Perry looks crazed, insane, and full of his own hubris, a total nutcase.

I really like Michelle Bachmann (thought she was great during the debate) and Romney, but my reservations with Romney include his venture capitalism, buying up companies, laying off workers, maximizing profits, then selling off the companies for more profit.

As a lifelong democrat I will vote for Ron Paul in the primaries as a combination protest vote and because I do believe in a lot of his views, like his anti-war stances, his opposition to U.S. hegemony, the U.S. need to preserve empire status, and his opposition to all foreign aid and U.S. misadventures in other countries. As Paul Craig Roberts has stated, U.S. overreach will doom our nation and bring us down.

It is hardest for me to understand Ron Paul’s ostensible support for nuclear given his fairly serious commitment libertarian principles/ideology. Nuclear requires HUGE amounts of support from the federal government–I’m not denying that other forms of energy get funding too–but how can a libertarian support any of this?

I also wish someone would run who was willing to oppose nuclear–no matter how much money the nuke people tried to throw at him/her. It would be even better if there were actually a viable candidate who would oppose it.

    You don’t know the Japanese.

If the government tells something and a few people don’t follow orders, these people will be vilified, or accused as being Koreans.

During the 17th century, the Japanese government caught every Catholic in the land by one simple method; they made everybody step on a picture of virgin mary, and killed anyone who refused to do so. Anyone who refused to register for the tax registry was also deemed as closet Catholics and killed.

[Legend has it that a few local people secretly practiced Catholicism until the Westerners came on the 19th century; however by then their form of worship was no longer something which could be approved by Rome.]

They might not be able to put out the nuclear fires, but they will be able to quiet the masses.

    Report comment

    • Clocka

Those who could have put Japan into flames has been long weeded out from the gene pool, at least from the 17th century! if someone rebels, the person will quickly be labeled as a “closet Korean”, in the vein of Cho Seung Hui, the Virginia Tech gunman.

During the last year of WWII, the Japanese grimly accepted their death in the imminent American invasion. The Japanese government was willing to lose at least 15 million people on a pop of 65 million; the rationale was that by that time America would lose 1 mil to Japan’s 15, and that would make America quit.

However delusional that thinking might be, that was the prevalent attitude among Japan’s leaders, whose grandsons now rule Japan with little change of direction from their granddads.

And the people were willing to do that.

Only the Emperor’s address on Aug 15 ended the war. A die-hard group of soldiers were actually going to kamikaze the Missouri, where MacArthur was going to get a formal surrender. It took a brother of the Emperor to stop them.

When Japan gets delusional, it really does so.

      Report comment

    • Clocka

If there is something the Japanese really does well, it’s grimly accepting death.

The famous incident of the White Tiger Unit tells the story and is very relevant, since it did take place in the Fukushima prefecture.

During the Meiji Restoration, supporters of the Shogun congregated in the Aizu castle, which is incidentally where a lot of the nuclear refugees were moved to and are still staying there.

(The original castle was destroyed in the battle and subsequently during WWII , but was rebuilt)

The White Tiger Units were young samurai boys drafted among the kids of Aizu, and they were sent to battle with swords and aquebusses to face the government force armed with the latest weapons.

Even though all of them knew they were going to die, they grimly went to the battle to die. About 20 of them survived, and they were so ashamed of having spared by the enemy that all of them killed themselves by stabbing one another.

If anything, those who have radiation sickness will probably kill themselves before they kill others to avenge for what was done. The 47 Ronin sacrificed themselves to avenge their lord, but not for themselves. It is more likely for someone to die for a TEPCO chief than to kill one of them.

“Shoot him down ! Kill him ! ”

The guy in protective clothing is the French man. Obviously he did not do anything illegal, but was taken down to the ground by the police. He was forced to make a fault statement in prison for the condition of release.

His wife was trying to protect him,but 2 of the female police pinned her from her back, and right wing guys kicked on her stomach.

So far, there is no official apology from Japanese police.

    Neptunium(= plutonium,after decay) found in Itate-mura & Date City

Nikkan SPA Magazine: Researcher Says LARGE AMOUNT of Neptunium-239 Also in Date City, Fukushima

    from EX-SKF home page
    http://ex-skf.blogspot.com/

“uranium-239, whose half life is about 24 minutes, decays into neptunium-239 with a half life of about 2.5 days, which then decays into plutonium-239 whose half life is 24,200 years.”

Same researcher said several thousand becquerels/kg of neptunium-239 was found in the soil in Iitate-mura (35 km northwest of Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant). So both Iitate-mura &Date City, 25km NW of the former, got doused with neptunium, which decays into plutonium.

    MOX = euphemism for plutonium!

Edwards nuclear lecture 5/5: Plutonium – some very good info on plutonium here, worth listening to all 8 minutes. MOX (mixed oxide) fuel is a EUPHEMISM for plutonium fuel!

They knew from the get-go that good grade uranium ore was in short supply and if they wanted to carry on with nuclear power, they’d HAVE to move on to using the highly dangerous plutonium fuel, cleverly named MOX – which, most people don’t know what that means….

Japan’s goverment should look in the mirror, and ask a question “why we can’t be honest to our own people” Since day 1 information has been misleading and highly withering.

My opinion is, that everybody in the world has right to have specific and neutral info accidents now and future to make decisions for own and their children’s future.

If this had happened 20 years ago, most of all would’t even know situation, thks to internet it’s not possible to hide it anymore

Goverment should protect and serve their own citizens. But what their doing now? Telling stories about Safe radiation levels, measuring Cecium levels in the grounds, when there’s a huge amounts of more serious materials like Plutonium on different variants.

So, cheap geiger might be inaccurate, but still better than information given past six months. When your child is playing at the park, and 500eur geiger goes to red zone, then everyboby should leave immediately.

Every signage gives a conclusion – This has been a worst accident in the known history, and nobody knows how it will end.

How many will die in 1-5 years?
    How to stop radiation leaks?
How to act with melted cores and when?
    Groundwater?
    Urine?
    Children and radiation?

    Hello all,

I posted this on the discussion for this week, but it relates to this story in that what is more important to us is our readings here. Japan is toast.

Took some more readings today and the photos are on the link below. These are taken in the So. Colorado area. Most were just in the last few days. Here is the edited story I reported earlier today.

Went for a bicycle ride on Sunday 9-11-11 which is a regular thing. It was so beautiful, but what was found is not something to happily report.

In the history of this town there has been lots of uranium mining and there is still lots of it around. On the ride there was some next to the bike trail that we found. :(

Oh my goodness, and to think of all the kids that go past here every day.

People swim in these river spots every day, and fish the waters too.

The 100.3 is at the dog park where everyone goes to walk their doggies.

They say pictures tell a thousand words. The highest reading was 243.2 CPM at the bike trail sludge dump spot.

If I could put descriptions on the photos, I would. Sorry. If you have any questions as to what is which, please just ask.

Oh, and as far as the japenese propaganda police or any others that would keep this info from being shared, bring it on! We sleep dangerously and no one around here is crazy enough to bother the family that lives at the end of the road.
