Well, yeah it was a rehash, but well-delivered and an excellent simple explanation for people who haven’t heard much about Fukushima since the names who shall not be mentioned put the nutcracker on the mass media reports.
The first week after March 11 with all the big names in US television going gung ho made me believe maybe we were going to have another CNN marathon like the Patriot missile defense of Israel in January 1991 when Scud missiles were landing in Tel Aviv.
But the brakes came on fast when the nuke pukes realized this was not going to be a “normal” nuclear accident. Money, power, and politics supercedes public safety every day of the week in virtually every country in the world.
The US lied to its citizens for 50 years about nuclear fallout…only breaking that silence a few times to warn about Chinese nuclear bomb fallout clouds rolling across America. The hypocrisy of the government that blew more bombs than all the other nuclear powers combined is almost laughable if it wasn’t so tragic. How many of your departed loved ones died a shortened life due to fallout? Maybe far more than we could imagine.

Fragments of fuel. Not even whole pelets. They may be 5 miles out since they are heavier and the forces were great. I wonder how much fuel vaporized and/or aerisolized, that’s whats gonna rain out on lots of us………

Actually, the video seemed to clearly present the situation that is happening now quite clearly (and frighteningly). It was very informative, except for the big question, what happens now?
Even Chernobyl didn’t have an actual China syndrome, right? So are we in uncharted territory about what the dangers are of the corium hitting the water table? It seems so to me. I’ve heard a few possible scenarios, but no one really knows what actually will happen now…
And did I hear a comment by one of the workers that they are evacuating??? I wonder how big that evacuation is!

Relatives in Rhode Island, father’s sister-in-law died of throat cancer, father’s brother died of lung cancer. Cancer causes maybe a third of all deaths. It wasn’t like that before 1945.

This was in the news 3 months ago? It’s the first time I’ve heard about it, from a credible source like the NRC, anyway.
I remember it taking so long for Tepco to admit there was a breach in the containment, and then they were talking about just a few small holes. They’d also been talking about injecting nitrogen into something-or-other vessels.
I’m trying to imagine how big explosions like that could blow fuel out of a reactor core without making more than just a few small holes. Maybe I just don’t understand the mechanics of how these places are put together. After an explosion like that, I’d expect the whole kit & kaboodle to be open to the sky.
Everyone knows that #3 was loaded with MOX, so I guess that’s what those fragments are, unless they came from #1, which would appear less likely.

The NRC hearing was from July 28, but maybe was only public knowledge at this video Aug. 18. It’s the first I heard also from the NRC.
But I think I heard that there were fuel rods blown out. I think TEPCO kept saying that the containment vessel hadn’t been breached. Of course, there were pictures of the explosion and mess after the explosion of reactor #3. So the learned pronouncement can’t be a surprise.

I was back teaching today (univ). I have so much to say to these kids but most of them really have no interest in learning about their world beyond facebook pages and celebrity culture.
They are mostly young, working class, and many already have kids in their early 20s. They are just working to survive. I want a better future for them and yet I feel so pessimistic about their prospects.

He wanted to read Mein Komf ( that doesn’t look right ) and I found it for him. He is intrigued by the ability of these people to control masses, and I have “caught’ the bug myself a bit.
Bascially I shielded myself as a child with fiction , mostly English mysteries and still love the genre today. I have found recently that fiction resenbles live and am reading more and more non-fiction.

The conspiracy is to get you stuck on conspiracy thinking – This is a psychological trick used to spiral you down into a rathole. Don’t fall for it. Stay on point – Fukushima is the problem – not the Israelis, not the Pakistanis – nope – the Japanese – and nuclear energy is the problem.
The fact that the shills are all over this thread is proof in it’s own right that the story about Plutonium being ejected is exactly the story nobody wants you to hear about. And that is the most dangerous news about Fukushima.
And if you think clearly about it for just a few seconds, do you think the people who are responding to this disaster, and the PR and spook hacks who are trying to cover it up have the intelligence to have some kind of grand plan???
Of course they don’t. They are complete morons – or at least their actions make them appear to be.
There is no “grand plan”. There is a terrible, tragic and unstoppable nuclear disaster that is on the verge of killing lots of people. Everyone here – shills and nonshillls alike – knows it. Most who are not here don’t.
Regardless, it won’t change the outcome. Despite the music and everyone trying to stay calm, and despite the screams and cries for help as people finally realized the extent of the danger, the Titanic still went down. As the engineers knew it would within minutes of the accident.
Those who were able to assess the situation and take the right action lived and many who didn’t died. Disaster spares no one. The shills don’t have any magic potion that will keep them alive when the Fuku monster comes to get them. Neither do the “elite” or the politicians or the children, or the smartest or the most beautiful among us.

I like what you have to say. Nuclear is completely devastating whether as a weapon, nuclear power plant, or as testing. Why are we using uranium (no longer depleted) in all our weapons and equipment in the Middle East? Not only is this genocide for the peoples in the Middle East, but the dust encircles the world and will eventually kill all of us. The rates of background radiation is continually rising and I’m sure that with the all the uses of nuclear we are systematically depleting the ozone layer and allowing more radiation in from outer space and from the sun.
The argument that nuclear is the answer to global warming, is the biggest lie of all!!!!! Giving a Nobel Peace Prize to someone who advocates nuclear, whether Al Gore or Barack Obama,makes a complete mockery of the Nobel Peace Prize. Secretary of State Clinton ran for president campaigning as against any new nuclear. As long as she runs around supporting the current administration she is completely destroying her credibility.

James, like your points. Shouldn’t the focus be that BWR containment structures explode in the event of an extended LOC accident? Also, the fact that vents installed post design failed to opporate as designed, resulting in hydrogen explosoions? Post LOC containment needs to be a design factor. If its not possible to control a reactore in the event of extended off site power loss, is it possible to make a safe reactor?
Make them answer these questions, stop them from controlling the coversation. By continuing the cover up at fukushima, we are effecticly distracted from things we can influence.

No I don’t think the discussion should be limited to BWR reactors and loss of cooling.
The only thing we need to know is that we’ve had three nuclear meltdowns at three large nuclear powerplants in a little over 30 years.
That’s an average of 1 every 10 years. And is unsustainable.
If we aren’t all dead already, then at that rate we very soon will be.
Nuclear needs not to be 10% or 100% safer – it needs to be 100X or 10,000% safer. I’d say man could survive if these types of accidents were every 1000 years – but every 10 or 20 years – no way.
Therefore, focusing the discussion on vent systems, or SFP’s or how the containment is designed is silly.
The entire concept is bad. You cannot create a device that self destructs if it loses cooling for a few hours. You cannot create a device that is unrepairable when it breaks. You cannot create a device that makes its surrounding uninhabitable for hundreds of years if it fails.
