A citizens’ group in Tokyo has found elevated levels of radioactivity at sporting facilities that will be used in the 2020 Olympic Games and is warning that competitors and the hundreds of thousands of people expected to flock to the city for the event will be putting themselves in danger.

The Citizens’ Group for Measuring Radioactive Environment at Facilities for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics claims wind-borne radiation from the four crippled reactors at the Fukushima nuclear plant has contaminated a number of future venues.

Measurements were taken at 39 sporting venues that have been earmarked to stage events in seven years’ time […]

“We found caesium-137 at almost every place we carried out tests, and there was no caesium here before the accident at Fukushima,” Mitsuo Tanaka, a member of the group, told the South China Morning Post. […]

I hope those who are involved in planning for participating in; or travelling to go see the 2020 Olympics take an educated awareness as to the meaning of this warning! Someone out here mentioned' "The mother of all rugs" this report is likely to be swept under; let's hope athlete's families sort out the propaganda from the facts. Educate your family no matter how crazy they think you are! Rewards could include a stronger group effort awareness of the dangers as those awakening to this threat eventually realize all this contamination will not simply go away.

    What a bizarro headline alone.

You can not light an Olympic Torch with an out of control nuclear fire. Everyone gets burned.

The Olympics are supposed to be a celebration of human strengths.

Fukushima is the ultimate example of mankinds unyeilding weakness.

Together they are just a carnival of ignorant stupidity…

    • They are already burning the Olympic torch, by burning radioactive waste in Tokyo and all over Japan.

By spreading nuclear waste all across the land they are poisoning seventy times seven future generations to suffering and death, all in the name of hiding a herd of glowing green elephants in the living room.

The torch might as well be fire from those radioactive waste incinerators… because that is what they are going to get; nothing more.

They can tell a fairy tale and fantasize, but the cold hard reality is that the nation of Japan is currently committing hari kari, for nothing other than appearance, to look better temporarily.

They will pay a very dear price for this hubris.

        Well said.

They are selling radioactive rice grown close to Fukushima. If they say it is grown organically, it is accepted without question in the US as organically grown rice. They are killing not only those in Japan, but everyone around the world.

I can only hope ther NRC commissioners are teated as special guests of Japan, and Abe takes them to Kawamura Tokyo Ginza for Japan's Kobe beef and those prize fresh vegetables from Fukushima.

    Bon Appétit!

The radiation from this disaster is everywhere.

    Gettin' on everything.

    We're sick of it.

U.S. (the inventors of this crap) should step up and do something about it.

Sorry, but we're too busy arguing over our crappy health care plan.

      • And the budget, which is totally fabricated, made up of little more than a big doodoo pile of lies and deception as well..

        • We Not They Finally

What I'd love is if they would just print the "BLACK budget" part of the budget (secret defense contractors and the like), then I could put big black X's through THAT and we'd have enough money to fund what the culture really needs.

          It's mass education.

"You see, also government is a money addict!"

There are resources, people and a lot of things to do …
Hmmm, why is "money" the only way to organize this?
          What about reason?

open source movement is the way forward. Crowd funding and 3-d printing could collapse the fascism. But the earth has already been "tainted" with poison

Open-sourced = Free flow of ideas and knowledge = decentralization of power and wealth without forced redistribution. Trading the way it was meant to be. You are very wise. I dunno if your are into programming or computers at all, but I've often thought the way you do. The cattle win through decentralization. Everything should be decentralized since it's stronger and more secure decentralized and open-source. Imagine the power supply system being decentralized without coal, nukes, gas. Power would be cheap due to competition, would be clean due to free market forces i.e. no one wants to live anywhere near a nuke plant, and the entire system as a whole super resilient as it can draw where it needs when needed. Once everything is decentralized and open-source, we will finally be free as a race and no freedom does not equal all men are made the same, but should be TREATED as you would want to be treated since they own their private property of themselves as you are of yourself; This also means RESPONSIBILITY distributed. No taxes, no central economic planning and manipulation, no theft, no force by central authority, homes families own as well as land for as long as they want it and paid for it no property tax; You'd see how quickly your wallet will fatten and how much easier we can help each other and build the society WE want not some central Fascist cabal's idea of our society. That is what this millennium will all be about and I think Fukushima, since it will be…

I dub this the Age of Controlled Ignorance and our tactics are to educate and spread only truths as we know them at the time. [Science has many times more theories than laws for example.] The most effective is teaching others how to just recognize propaganda. "Gov't" one day could just be a thing created for a specific problem and funded voluntarily then disbanded. Imagine a "kickstarter" for communities. It must be a slow, slow, slow process or else it will not work. Remember, money may be the problem now, but CAN and will be the solution. How do we make that transformation into a real democracy aka decentralized democracy with zero governmental power considering our populations are the actual power? [ Nothing wrong with intelligent people saying things like please don't drink to excess, but it's your body, please don't hurt yourself because you are sad get help, but it's your body. Advice, but not power.]
P.S. Don't forget those wall st banks would be gone today if not for the government literally stealing from the American people to give to the banks to continue the war to continue to continue to continue. We need to take the responsibility for society and I firmly believe decentralized everything and open-source everything is our key to freedom. Don't forget it will always be a constant struggle, but we would be able to practice democracy directly by doing things ourselves. Remember the tortoise and hare? Also remember, we are not allowed to participate…

Good for the group doing this! It's the only good that might come out of winning the Olympic bid — that the athletes are told to STAY AWAY and it gets a lot of publicity WHY.

I didn't realize how corrupt the Olympic committee is. I guess people have known that for a long time, but this is an eye-opener to me.

Caesium-137 has a half-life of about 30 years. Caesium-137 reacts with water and when it gets into the body it goes to all parts of you with higher concentration in muscle tissues and lower in bones. The biological half-life of caesium is rather short at about 70 days. An experiment showed that when dogs are subjected to a whole body burden of 3800 μCi/kg (140 MBq/kg, or approximately 44 μg/kg) of Cesium-137 (and 950 to 1400 rads), they die within thirty-three days, while animals with half of that burden all survived for a year.
Accidental ingestion of caesium-137 can be treated with Prussian blue, which binds to it chemically and reduces the biological half-life to 30 days. So it's not a death sentence of course we would be far better off without this contamination. Lets hope they get on top of the problem in Fukushima and things don't get worse.
