The United States deliberately allowed Japan access to the United States’ most secret nuclear weapons facilities while it transferred tens of billions of dollars worth of American tax paid research that has allowed Japan to amass 70 tons of weapons grade plutonium since the 1980s, a National Security News Service investigation reveals. [...] the United States has known about a secret nuclear weapons program in Japan since the 1960s, according to CIA reports.
[...] The Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations permitted sensitive technology and nuclear materials to be transferred to Japan despite laws and treaties preventing such transfers. [...]
While Japan has refrained from deploying nuclear weapons and remains under an umbrella of U.S. nuclear protection, NSNS has learned that the country has used its electrical utility companies as a cover to allow the country to amass enough nuclear weapons materials to build a nuclear arsenal larger than China, India and Pakistan combined. That secret effort was hidden in a nuclear power program that by March 11, 2011– the day the earthquake and tsunami overwhelmed the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant – had amassed 70 metric tons of plutonium. Like its use of civilian nuclear power to hide a secret bomb program, Japan used peaceful space exploration as a cover for developing sophisticated nuclear weapons delivery systems.
Political leaders in Japan understood that the only way the Japanese people could be convinced to allow nuclear power into their lives was if a long line of governments and industry hid any military application. For that reason, a succession of Japanese governments colluded on a bomb program disguised as innocent energy and civil space programs. [...]

We don't talk about this in public. Nuclear is only spoken about when we have to use it as an excuse to mess with other nations. When it comes to our domestic use, or our offshore programs everything is hush hush. You must remember the march 12th Pentagon papers asking for an evacuation of American citizens from Tokyo. "Stand down" was the order from the White House. Humans can't be trusted to harness the atom.

Espionage, plain and simple. Didn't Julius and Ethel Rosenberg get the death sentence for something along these lines. H.W. Bush needs to be charged, arrested, tried and if guilty, convicted.

The loan would be on condition the reactors are restarted !!!!
The lenders are concerned if two conditions — raising power tariffs and the restart of the utility's nuclear power plants — can be met in the face of public and political opposition following the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster a year ago.
Sources said the most likely option under discussion is for Tokyo Electric to issue bonds backed by collateral to the lenders in exchange for the funds.
"We have a fiduciary duty to our clients and shareholders," said a banking source.
"We cannot make a commitment when we are not sure about these things. We could get sued if things do not turn out as we expect and we cannot recover our loans," said the source, who is not authorized to discuss the matter publicly so did not want to be identified.

Yes, part of the reason that they have been so hushed-mouthed about all the isotopes being emitted by Fukushima Daiichi is because reactors have isotope footprints. If you can get accurate readings of the emissions, then you can tell for what primary purpose the reactor was being used.
Not saying that Fukushima was involved in the process. More likely the process of enrichment would have been in the Nuclear Arcade on the west coast, of which Oi is part. Also, their "breeder reactor" is there (I call it a "fiasco that refuses death"). And yes, the prime minister is in a BIG hurry to get Oi restarted. Could it be the N Korean missile launch has them a bit on edge?

In the late 1990s when the US began the sanctions, Japanese newspapers were filled with pro-Iran opinions that said "Iran has a right to develop nuclear, it's their sovereign right, US/Europeans are violating Iran's sovereignty with the sanctions." I remember this because I said to myself 'what a xxxx', considering Japan experienced two atomic bombs and we were taught absolute anti-nuke stance in school.
I then learned Japan has been and still is a very good friend of Iran. I could never figure out why, because if it's the oil, Japan can get it from many other countries. In the last decade or so, quasi govt organizations such as JUSE and JP standard association were helping Iran with various engineering expertise and training. Their websites used to list such projects with Iran, but now they've taken down the pages and also cashes.
I'm wondering… Has Japan been secretly selling its plutonium reserve to Iran under the guise of int'l cooperation, oil procurement, and peaceful nuclear technology? Last week, former prime minister Hatoyama flew to Iran, reportedly to persuade Iranians not to develop nuclear weapon. Did he make the trip to tipp off Iranians about the pending sanction details behind the US back, and perhaps also to reassure Iranians for continuing cooperation from Japan?

Recently read Iran has same right to "peaceful" nuclear development as other signators of the Test Ban Treaty (?) I think it was that one, or one of the non-proliferation treaties.
Therefore the US, Nato, the EU, etc., have no right to be placing sanctions on them nor thundering about going to war with them over the nuclear issue.
Iran is one of the few countries not to trade petro dollars for oil. They're no doubt on the poop list for the bankers and others who want them to toe the line. All the nations with central banks want to see nations like Iran with independent thoughts and currencies to toe the line or just go away …
If we can't force you to comply to our wishes, we'll just create a phoney pretext for going to war, and will bomb the living daylights out of you ….

Hi B&B were not sure yet, must call Ben Davis by the 16th. I and my lady got signatures from are area. People do want nuclear plants shut down, they are not sure how to go about it. Met all types some did not care when we first talked to them but then when they got some facts they were on it. Others signed instantly. We promoted ENENEWS as the best Energy news. I did meet some interesting people 2 guys from a Navy boat who were near the Hiroshima Bomb, they said they were offered to go to shore after the fact, but declined saying that men who went to shore came back sick. We can make a difference if we try.

Scary too, for all of us. It means all those laws excruciatingly thought out and fought over, all the history and detail behind it, when push comes to shove, in actuality only amount to black ink on white paper. Meaningless to those in the thraw of power.

However, I did find that a project is underway to put nuke plants all over the globe not for power but to desalinate water. That has got to be a worse idea than nuclear power.
