Follow-up to: Weekends off at Fukushima: Not one plant worker could be seen says Asahi -- Operational equipment lay idle -- A cold eerie quietness

Japanese journalist Ryuichi Kino is reporting that Tepco has apparently gone on vacation for Golden Week, according to SimplyInfo:

TEPCO Gone On Vacation

Tweet from (Ryuichi KINO) @ Kinoryuichi
[Press conference] The Tokyo Electric Power, the rest of the GW [Golden Week]. Following after the holidays. According to TEPCO, I rest a press conference “between the GW does not have much work on the premises.” Whether this explanation is true, can not be examined because they can not look in your own. Because the relationship between patrol and maintenance without breaks or contact of broken or leaking is expected to come.

No releases from Tepco since Sunday, April 27:

They probably just want to have their lives back. Just like the BP schmuck during the Gulf oil debacle.

what the …. not much work? TEPCO should be withdrawn from the job, all their assets frozen and the bosses taken to court in order to assume responsibility… but oh no, they go on a nice little holiday. where to i might ask, southern hemisphere per chance?

I am livid to read this!

  • Perhaps they are going on vacation to escape the smoke/steam that is billowing from the plant.

Fukushima is currently surrounded by brown steam/smoke and this has been going on for the last 24 hours

Yes, saying they are going on vacation eliminates the need to explain the need to be absent. I can't imagine there is a need for everyone to go on vaction at the same time….who is going to be left to do the things they have been doing….don't tell me it aint important it can wait????
I've really never heard of vacation in mass. E vacuation on the other fits a little better into the puzzle.

many moons – Just an FYI – Japanese Prime Minister Noda is in Washington now, presumably to hold formal discussions with the Obama administration on cooperative economic issues (curiously, Obama is now in Afganistan). Also, a number of Japanese physicians will be arriving in New York soon to participate in discussions on Friday.

Hmmmm, does this mean Obama does not want to talk to Prime Minister Noda since he might have to acknowledge something is going on at Fukushima. Gadzooks! Then he would have to "keep us informed" instead of just campaigning for reelection.

Interesting thought NP. This is all speculation on my part but my thinking was this:
Considering 1. the ominous looking releases at the Fuku plant during the past few days, 2. Tepco going on vacation despite those releases, 3. the Prime Minister coming to the US for four days of formal economic talks while this is going on, 4. President Obama publicly greeting Noda on Sunday then leaving him for a surprise trip to Afganistan – maybe there is more to Noda's trip (such as getting out of Japan during a particularly dangerous time) than just economic discussions. Can't help but wonder who else might be traveling from Japan this week. By the way, when the President met with Noda on Sunday nothing was mentioned publicly about the gravity of the Fuku situation despiye a U.S. Senator's recent declaration of concern.

@ jec – Thanks for the weather update! Do you have a good link to Fuku's weather? I think we should have it on the webcam page, since it is integral to understanding the video feeds…

Using weather models to watch for critical weather features. Passage Weather (free! http://www.passageweather.com) has weather world wide. Once a feature is found in area of interest, can use other models, and weather services to fine tune the forecast. Passage Weather is good for a birds eye view..and in a one or two day window (like most models) is pretty close to what is going to happen. Using actual THAT day weather does not warn –its a response only. Looking forward for a few days is best for health sakes. Note for Fukushima, winds will be from the SE..and blow towards Fukushima City. Not nice, but then the Oceans don't need this poison either….

Dumb question,…I know,…But,…Ummm, who's cooling the common spent fuel pool? You know,…the one that is (supposedly) still intact and has us ALL ( except me, and a few others), on the edge of their proverbial chairs? How is the water cooling the 'peachy-keen' #4?

    Generates a few thoughts:
    1) Should'nt all of Tokyo's 140 odd million be going on vacation about this time?
    2) Where do they plan to vacation?
    3) Do they really plan to return? The following week? Under their free will?
    4) Do they know something that they are not sharing with the rest of us? Perhaps we too should be thinking about a vacation.

It really doesn't matter that much. They have started a chain reaction that cannot be controlled or stopped. Due to the plethora of possible other events that can/will disrupt the cooling of the fuel and/or spent fuel (SFP #4), it’s only a matter of time before we can expect another, “We never saw that coming!” excuse from the folks who are in charge. The result, a mass extinction event for the northern hemisphere… http://www.infowars.com/fukushima-is-falling-apart-are-you-ready-for-a-mass-extinction-event/.

This time, the folks who are in charge “have screwed the pooch”, and we are all fuc#ked, them too!

    Have a nice day!

I think we can be assured soon they will all walk away and just let it go.

There is no fixing this mess. They've run out of ignorant workers. Where will they find employees willing to die? Send in the military? Intentionally send in the strongest of the gene pool to die? No.

Even bringing in world-class nuclear engineers. No matter what they come up with, someone has to build it. No workers, no construction.

Management will move out of the country to places with non-extradition treaties. End of story.

Unfortunately, that's not how governments think. The military always gets sent in to die. And if it wasn't bad enough already, just think about all those in the military that are using DU weapons, and DU armor. Even if they don't get killed in the war, their's a good chance they'll die from the uranium after they get home.

The question is, can we confirm the photos of workers? Do we know when they were taken? Were they taken months ago, and slowly released to make us think there are still people there?

No one's told the truth yet. Why do we take it for granted there are still workers in the rubble?

Trust is not high on their priority list, and we know what they think of their own children, if they're not perfect. Exactly like the Nazis and their implementation of Eugenics.

Get a grip, folks. The Japanese believe they are gods, descended from their creator god, from which a pair of gods dipped their sword in the ocean and the drops that fell when it was pulled out created Japan. Everyone else is nothing to them. There was no moral issue with the atrocities Japan has committed in the past. Gods don't have issues with killing non-gods. This is ingrained in their DNA, far older than any Bushido Code. They don't care.

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_mythology

Not all, just the ones in charge. And now Japan is finished, and taking the whole world with them. If you think Muslim terrorists are crazy with their ideas of Heaven and 40 virgins, that's only a taste of what the Japanese elite believe. Don't ever look for sympathy at that level. It isn't there. We are all 'Gaijin' to them, and as such, our deaths mean nothing. No matter how many.

        Report Comment

        • I never believed the photos of workers, purportedly at unit 4, were authentic.

However, this news about a "vacation" coming on top of the rising temperatures at 2 and recent smoke emissions signal plant abandonment(if it has not already happened).

Plant abandonment made official is about as much as an alarm as we can expect to get.

I need to know before I take my kids out of school…

I'm sorry to say this but i do not think the japanese people should be aloud to leave, unless they disarm the rest of their 40+domino blocks first.
Before the solarstorm hits would be preffered. They need to ask and allow the rest of the WHOLE world for help, they can't do this alone.

And our governments need pressure from their citizens to step in and do their duty without wasting time on buriïng heads and childisch hiding from responsibility and collective conscience.

People who wants to leave Japan will be the ones to pressure the government to surrender to reality and let go of the LOST face.

The only other option the rest of the world has is taking over.

    Yes, TeH HORROR. :(

Golden Week is an entrenched cultural holiday in Japan, much like Christmas in the US. Anyone not on emergency duty is going to take off. It boils down to what constitutes an emergency. The contracted cleanup crews will be gone. Most of middle management will be gone. Communication and coordination personnel will be gone. The few unfortunate souls left on duty will be those who are left there to holler for help when something bad happens.
