It could be the Japanese disaster last year is sending us more than beach debris – it could be sending us problems from the Fukushima nuclear complex. That’s the contention of Y. Yamada, a retired Japanese engineer and founder of Skilled Veterans Corps for Fukushima, and of Carol Wolman, the Green Party candidate for Congress in 2008 and 2010.

Date: July 24, 2012

Retired Japanese engineers are set to embark on a monthlong tour of the United States to seek that country’s support to realize their desire to help contain the Fukushima nuclear crisis.

The group wants to work at Tokyo Electric Power Co.’s crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant in place of younger workers engaged in crisis-control work. The members of the Skilled Veterans Corps for Fukushima, headed by 73-year-old retired engineer Yasuteru Yamada, are planning to take over their radiation exposure risks.

But the organization has faced rejection from TEPCO and the government. The group hopes the U.S. visit will help their cause.

[...]

During the tour, the two are slated to deliver speeches, attend seminars, hold interviews and meet with U.S. lawmakers.

[...]

The government said it had informed TEPCO about the group, but the company told the organization that no more workers would be necessary at the plant.

Damn arrogant Japanese nucleocrats! They refuse to accept help from anyone.

Madness in Japan…their race is dying by the day.

They don't want educated workers who can tell the world what is truly going on.

Was thinking the other day about WHY they wouldn't want to tell the truth. Two words came to mind: self preservation.

Can you imagine the collective fury if the truth was made known to the "unwashed masses" of the Northern Hemisphere while it was still fresh in their minds?

Well, maybe they'd have escaped with their lives. After all, they've done a pretty good job of keeping the unwashed masses dumbed down about nuclear weapons and the dangers of radiation. I was one of those dumbed down people, until 3/11. Knew nuclear power was a bad idea, and had heard about the horrors of D.U. Truly hadn't put together how truly awful nuclear weapons and nuclear power truly are.

That is, if the truth was made known when the public heard what little most of them actually heard about Fukushima ….

@HoTaters…Why do you think that so many people are dying of cancer today. It is because of the above ground nuclear bomb testing by the US in the 1950's. Also because of radiation accidents in nuclear plants worldwide that you don't hear about. They don't even know what to do with nuclear waste,so they bury it underground and let future generations worry about it. Radiation lasts a long long time my friend….

I think it is that and many other pollutants in a capitalistic world where the dollar is more important than life, health, etc. Our bodies fight a daily battle with pesticides, air pollution, products that contain hazardous materials, the list is long.
We have goverment agencies that pretend to regular and protect, but they are not protecting the people they are protecting industry and their interest in making money.

When I read that a boss admits to making workers use covers on their dosimeters because he was frightened of the radiation alarms, why didn't the workers not beat him to a bloody pulp???

When I read that a Japanese worker thinks that his name will go down in history for "doing something great", I am mystified by the complacent demeanor of the Japanese….

At the turn of the century in the US, the cancer rate was 1 person in 22. Today it is 1 person in 4.I wonder why??

It'd be almost cute if it weren't so sad, seeing a couple of doddering-old men, disembarking an international flight; bags in hand, attempting sense from flashing directional displays.

Right after 311, these same retired engineers made the offer to go in and sacrifice (what was left of) their lives to the nuclear god. Now we know what happened to their offer. TEPGOV knew they wouldn't last five minutes under such harrowing conditions. It was a brave gesture on the part of these retired engineers, but TEPGOV's long-past such traditional sacrificial gesture. Besides, convulsing old-folk on gurneys wouldn't make for good PR at this time.

What a sad bind we find ourselves in. To have stood by and allowed the proliferation of such deadly technology. This gaggle of old engineers debates which path to take now. All the signs are confusing. In a world where so much has been exchanged, you'd think by now, we'd all know the path from here.

Fear not. The wonders of moving sidewalks bear our loving friends towards their destination. It's only a matter of time before they're treated to the same condescending smiles within the hallowed halls of America. Much is at stake. Celebrate their courage with comforting words as such will easily be retracted at a latter date. Then send them on their way with the other fools…

I'd be all for these old guys going to Fukushima…if they had a plan of action. Sad thing is, nothing can be done. It would take an entire country's military just to try and contain the mess then sit and wait decades before any melted core removal could begin. And that is after you get Japan's government to cooperate.

    Y. Yamada, and Skilled Veterans Corps for Fukushima are heroes. Offering themselves and their expertise is true heroism.

If you live in near Sonoma county CA, show up and give them your encouragement.

Yes they are heroes just for offering to go there to help, thus sacrificing themselves for the younger generations whose greatly diminished QOL they probably feel some sort of guilt about after working for,and supporting the industry that never did figure out how to control despite their misplaced trust that enough resources would've been diverted from TEPCO,etc.'s profits to the R & D necessary to tackle the problems they'd assumed would be at least manageable combined with efficient, effective decontamination techniques that never did materialize?~It's no surprise that they won't accept help from,or even want personnel on-site whose experience in the field and honesty would allow honest assessments of what's really going on there!Besides-they want people to fill job vacancies who are "nobodies" who have no clue to what they signed on for & willing to accept the line of BS TEPCO feeds them along with their paycheck.Even better that their activities aren't followed by the minimal media attention the group of oldster's with their hearts in the right places!!-I've already had my worst nightmare come true beginning in Spring of last year when my healthy,20 yr. old daughter had a miscarriage, followed by my wife's diagnosis Feb.20,2012 of Stage 3b Inflammatory Breast Cancer which she'd endured chemotherapy and just last week a masectomy & lymph node removal with radiation therapy starting Aug.2nd!-I'm "trying" to stay positive, but I know we all got dosed-including…

cont'd- here in NE IL,SW Chicago actually. But it being that I'm surrounded by no less than 11 NPP's and several Govt.,DOE,Universities,etc. that could also be the source of the emissions I "know" in my heart has sickened my family & pets and still threaten every living being & most life forms on the planet!! I feel so helpless & at the same time angered beyond descript at the apathy displayed by my countrymen and the human race in general since together we could shut their asses down & put things at least in the proper perspective & demand accountability as well as put the issue into the MSM spotlight! Instead,I'll be continuing to care for my wife and any other family members who are sickened before I am & if her condition continues to improve & she recovers completely-then I'll have to be "content" with, and try to enjoy every day we have left together!! It's sad that my "daydreaming" of a future that included good times hanging out with our grandkids has been replaced with feeling glad that we've been spared the additional horrors & trauma of having them be born and surviving despite deformities,DNA damage, health issues and terminal illnesses, etc…That said-I applaud the valiant, but probably vain attempts by these retired nuke workers to awaken "the Sleeping Giant"(USA)to new dangers invading continents from sources in Japan (and everywhere this crap technology is embraced!)-I'll continue following ENE news & contributing input when possible while caring…

I'm down for it!!~Problems being "how to get more people AWARE of the seriousness of the issue-AFTER telling them about Fukushima, that is?!! I'm blown away by the lack of ANY knowledge of Fuku whatsoever by the majority of those I mention it too?!! One thing that might help if my suspicions are correct and IF I'm allowed access/possession of the tumors being studied by the medical lab of the hospital that just removed my wifes breast & 3 lymph nodes a week ago following treatment for a sudden onset of Inflammatory Breast Cancer,a rare & aggressive type that she still has possibly a bit more chemotherapy to endure and 7 weeks=#35 radiation treatments scheduled that begins on 8/2/12! Maybe I can get her lab specimins, removed tumors, etc. to another unbiased organization willing & capable of testing for the "markers" that I believe would point to the specific pollutant that initiated her stage 3B IBC's cause & origin. I probably shouldn't say much more about it at the moment though.~Certain "things" had happened to myself & my family via seemingly un-connected govt. agencies & social services programs after I'd made certain strong statements,FB posts, comments here,etc.-but they hurt my loved ones who don't accept my theories, concern,or anything about Fuku or elevated US rad levels, food chain contamination unless something makes it into MSM in the "watered down" versions of the "real story"?!! I'm not surprised though-just look at B.O.'s biggest source of…
