I saw this on TV..AMAZING!!!!!
It looked like a peaceful demonstration.
Most people don’t want Nuclear Plants, so why do we have them??!!!??
Report Comment
You will find in Japan’s case that the British placed them there, on a fault line, in a tsunami zone, next to one another….hmmm, odd…
In other cases, you will also find the big oil is involved. Why? Because they dont want the people discovering how good soil and wind really is. They dont want the technology to advance. That is why BP purchased Solarex, the number one solar panel company back in 2003. To sit on them. If people discovered how great solar is, they would not want oil…
200 years ago, BP would have gotten stormed, tared, feathered, sent out of the country…if they were lucky.

So, that’s 60,000 X 100 / 30,000,000 for percentage (of Tokyo population) is that right? 0.2% ?
Zero point two percent. One in every five hundred.
A beginning, maybe.

Thank you Japanese citizens. You are in the fight for your lives. If you do nothing, it is obvious the government and nuke industry do NOT have your best interest in mind.
The risks outweigh the benefits in the nuclear solution.

Wow this is so inspiring! I wish we could get 60K to protest against nuclear power in the US. Thank you, people of Japan, for making me happy today! Keep going! The world’s future partly depends depends on your efforts now. This is such a wonderful, inspiring photo!
Report Comment
There was a very vibrant anti-nuclear movement in the US during the 70s and 80s. I think people got complacent when no new plants were built for so many years.
Now that the push is once again on for new reators, we need to revive this movement.

Re high rad count in Australia – Moret says the Australian military uses du artillery (firing ranges, etc.) – same here in Hawaii – du artillery used on firing ranges. When visiting here a few years ago, Moret discovered radiation on Big Isle & Oahu – when the military were forced to, they finally admitted to the use of the du ammo (doubtless understating the case). Moret also mentioned the very dirty Aussie uranium mines – said Tasmanian Devils getting the same kind of very nasty rapidly growing oral cavity cancers that soldiers in Iraq (du central) were getting & military was attributing to their having oral sex with local women(!) We learn something new every day. Tasmanian Devils, lately at least, are evidently quite sexually sophisticated…
Moret says du from Iraq has been widely spread by the winds – probably in both So. & No. Hemispheres.

Holding responsible people accountable: what has been done (& not just in Japan) is criminal. (Dr. Chris Busby mentioned this). How about putting that idea to the Japanese people? (in Japan for starters, that is).
If you or I lied repeatedly & recklessly endangered/injured even one person (their health or property), it would be a criminal matter. So let’s point out the DOUBLE STANDARD. Govt. & big business do it & we just sigh & roll our eyes.
WE ARE TALKING HIGH CRIMES & MISDEMEANORS HERE. But we the sheeple are (all over the world) KEPT SO IGNORANT of the law that don’t think of that. Here is perhaps an opportunity to try to begin to correct that situation.
The mass media too have a duty to tell the truth & not cover up for their pals.

the japanese have always had this insular hidden suicidal tendency and they are taking as many of the rest of the world with them.
10 million need to be on the streets..
but no they will get into trouble with da boss man if they step out of line.

So happy to see this protest. They need to do this again in a few weeks. Rough estimate120,000 thousand . The police say 20,000 . The organizers say 60,000 but anyone looking at pics can see over 100,000.
Still there are 30,000,000 in Tokyo so 0.04% of the population represented.
However now people in Tokyo can show their couRAGE!

Pressure builds in Japan’s nuclear divide
By Daniel Leussink
TOKYO – Following the disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant six months ago, nine prominent Japanese intellectuals have launched a popular movement that seeks to abolish nuclear power and the closure of all nuclear power plants in Japan.
The group, which includes Nobel literature prize laureate Kenzaburo Oe and musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, plans to collect 10 million signatures in support of their proposal for a nuclear-free Japan. On Monday, the group organized a colorful demonstration followed by three vocal protest marches through Tokyo, attracting about 60,000 people.
The theme of the demonstration was “Sayonara genpatsu,” “Goodbye nuclear power plants.”
Satoshi Kamata is one of the intellectuals behind the movement.
