Get out of nuclear power and do it fast, angry Fukushima residents told Japanese government officials on Wednesday at a public hearing on energy policy held in an area ravaged by a nuclear disaster that has whipped up opposition to atomic power.

“I want all the reactors in Japan shut immediately and scrapped,” a grey-haired woman, who introduced herself as a farmer living 65 km (40 miles) from the Fukushima plant, said at the public hearing in the prefecture capital.

“Many people are now aware that the government’s talking of ‘no immediate risk to health’ is tantamount to ‘long-term health risk’,” she said to the applause of about 200 residents packed in a small concert hall.

how did Reuters get through that story without mentioning the words thyroid, health, children up to 500,000 of them (miyagi etc too!)…

smoke and mirrors from the msm.. they are trying to be responsible because everyone is onto their game.. suspicious version…

good to see some stories about the disaster coming out on the msm.. even though they are not allowed to talk about much.. this article looks cut and pasted from the ministry of information's handouts…?

  • "Get out of nuclear power and do it fast."

I love the sound of that statement.

"‘no immediate risk to health’ is tantamount to ‘long-term health risk’"

Now they are starting to see through the information doublespeak.

doublespeak: – typically includes the changing or switching of words to make an unpleasant, tricky or otherwise negative situation not sound as awful.

The assumption by government that people are essentially stupid is supported by statistics. However, the exceptions to the mean are the ones who eventually bite them on the rear whenever they try to take advantage of the curve, because they are inevitably heard through the censorship from unexpected sources.

Its true and its not entirely true. Because following Gofman even normally operating nukes are putting life on the planet out incessantly, if you look for it. See
      http://isisunveiledhenp.blogspot.in/2012/05/normal-operations-of-nuclear-fuel-cycle.html
This is cumulative given the half lives of artificially created elements(Cs-137 30 y) and because of the mountain of ignorance of people regarding the energy audit of energy intensive methods of meeting electricity and energy needs. See how nuclear power programmes go on consuming more energy than they deliver to society outside the nuke cycle and industry, year after year and find out that they consume infinitely more of the resources than they ever give to society during their life time. This means poisoning of the earth for ever by nuclear power programmes because ignorantly the rulers go on supplying energy by all means to meet the demands. This means ever more risk of nuclear reactor explosions and exposure of life to hazards of mining uranium. Note that to meet rapid changes in demand hydro power is needed which means dams and climate change and nuclear effects of dams blowing up the reactors, whether fast or light or heavy. Life is not NORMAL in modern civilization. Break the specialist society now and create a normal way of life. Which means enjoyment of living energy, deep and awesome respect for the negentropic wonders of life(no GM…

TBP sez…Japan is being taken out by a single nuclear power plant. Who's next? ..France, Germany, East Coast U.S?

SP: Yes, people around the world (and to some extent in Japan itself) have a hard time grasping the massive environmental impact of a nuclear plant disaster.

Fukushima Daiichi was 6 power units in one small coastline location and 4 of the 6 are still emitting radiation at an alarming rate. At least 3 melted down and escaped the reactor vessel and the secondary layer of containment. 3 blew their buildings beyond repair. The massive amounts of excess fuel (aka "spent fuel" which is a misnomer as the rods are deadly for millions of years) at Fukushima made it rank in the top 2 % of all plants worldwide for amount of dangerous fuel.

So yes, a single huge megaplex has brought Japan to the brink of extinction. The megaplex arrangement which is vaunted for efficiency is now revealed as a deathtrap for cleanup crews who must face multiple issues side by side vastly complicating any regain of control.

Fukushima Daiichi is not close to being under control and still has a sizable chance to re-fission and amplify the disaster 100 times current releases. Even at current release levels Japan will be contaminated three fold from today by 2015. Don't expect the Olympic Committee to be picking Tokyo for future Olympics in the next 500 years.

As for other countries who may be next for big plant blowups… I think India and China are the next likely victims.
