    Just one of the reasons why I don’t like nuclear power.

    Are they, evacuating people in the area?

    woops “but not an explosion”. From last night:

    “However, Naoto Sekimura, a professor at the University of Tokyo, said a major radioactive disaster was unlikely.

    “No Chernobyl is possible at a light water reactor. Loss of coolant means a temperature rise, but it also will stop the reaction,” he said.

    “Even in the worst-case scenario, that would mean some radioactive leakage and equipment damage, but not an explosion. If venting is done carefully, there will be little leakage. Certainly not beyond the 3 km radius.”

      I think Naoto Sekimura was wrong!. So much for being a Professor at the university of Tokyo!.

      I knew it was bad and I work in Information Technology.

    Earlier reports were they were letting steam out that was radioactive to keep pressure from rising in the reactor, meaning the pressure was getting to critical point and needed to be released, if pressure steam continues to build or heats up too rapidly it could produce and explosion because water heat/pressure becomes too much for containment dome to hold, like when a boiler can not hold the pressure that is too rapid and relief valve does not allow enough steam/pressure to escape to prevent and explosion. The water get hotter as the heat builds up due to surrounding water becoming hotter as the rods become hotter. A progressive anomaly with one predictable reaction in the end. … BOOM !
