Title: Scientist fears radiation still leaking at Fukushima nuclear plant
Source:Reuters
Date: November 19, 2012

Ken Buesseler, Sr. Scientist in Marine Chemistry and Geochemistry at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute: “There has to be a source. And they’re cooling those reactors quite extensively, some of that water’s getting back into the ocean, either actively being pumped out after some decontamination or through leaks in the buildings, they’re not able to contain all of the water that they use to cool.”

But plant operator Tepco denies the claim and the Japanese ministry responsible for radiation sampling across Japan said they are excluding that possibility from their inquiries at the moment.

But they don't deny the high cesium levels in fish?!? What kind of magic do they think we're going to fall for?

" … are excluding that possibility from their inquiries at the moment."

More doublespeak. How can you investigate something while actively excluding evidence?

Re: Radioactive Water getting back into the ocean.

"TEPCO denies the claim… They are excluding that possibility from their inquiries at the moment."

    How 'convenient' is that…?

It's just like the EPA not testing milk and other consumables like they should.
    Same thing!

  • Two American scientific heroes that are emerging in the wake of this disaster are, in my opinion:

    Ken Buesseler (oceanographer)

Timothy Mousseau (on genetic effects of radiation, e.g., see
    http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/11/121113134224.htm)

Here is a summary of findings on Fukushima ocean releases with citations

I'm having great trouble getting my book on Fukushima published. This is my 4th book and I had no trouble with the other 3 with academic publishers. Why now, I wonder?

Majia writes: "I'm having great trouble getting my book on Fukushima published. This is my 4th book and I had no trouble with the other 3 with academic publishers. Why now, I wonder?"

SP: The other books were not about hot (literally) topics. I detect some satire in your last sentence. *;-)

Maybe it's time to self-publish. Or see if a Green organization will help.

    • Majia, speaking as an author myself, I have had several books published by established publishers, and have also self published several others. IMHO, the only advantage of seeking out a publisher is the editing service and cover design. You still have to do most of the promotion and selling yourself, even with big-time New York companies. Definitely think about e-books. Check out Create Space and Smashwords. majia, great work. I think a good source for publishing options would be contacting the various anti-nuclear NGO's. Some will happily place a link to an ebook if you self publish.

And, thx so much for brining these two fellows to mine and everyone's attention here.

GOOD FOR YOU, KEN! A voice in the wilderness. Some concerned citizens should fund a research project under YOUR guidance!

@majia – your link on ocean releases is absolutely brilliant. Every one on the planet should read this. Seems to be more censorship lately both on the internet and media than when fukushima bagan, and yet it is getting worse. I hope you find a publisher, your work is priceless.

Of course they deny dumping water. If they told the truth their lips would fall off. Their track record as inept liars makes them totally unbelievable.

Their word isn't worth the ink on the yen they print for their near bankrupt government.

One day the Japanese and Indonesian bankers will say: "In Buddha we trust…everybody else pay cash."

The daily tidal flow and fresh underground water flowing over the triple coriums and then back into the sea is probably double the volume the Tepco slave workers pour into the buildings to cool the spent fuel.

Very little splattered parts of the long departed fissile fuel remains to be cooled in the building, but the main chunks of Units 1-3 fissile fuel have sunk deep into the mudstone. That's where the contaminated water is coming from and it will never stop.

Buesseler needs to realize that geology and meltdowns have met in a perfect underwater storm at Fukushima lagoon. The sea life will not recover for millennia. Humans may be extinct by the time the radiation has dissipated or exist only as mutant bipeds.

What a legacy the nucleocrats have left our children. The news from Japan will get much worse in the coming months and years. The collapse of their economy is quite plausible in this decade. Panic in the Year Zero is fast approaching Honshu island and without a single nuclear bomb fired in anger.
